New Foundations is the first quest in the Fort Forinthry quest series. Completing it allows the player to interact with and build Fort Forinthry, as well as access its facilities.

Official description[edit | edit source]

King Roald is offering you a duchy and all the problems that come with it.

Overview[edit | edit source]

The beginning[edit | edit source]

King Roald and Queen Ellamaria are talking to a veteran adventurer.

Stepping on the portal outside the Varrock Palace throne room, the player listens to a short conversation between King Roald, Queen Ellamaria, and a Veteran Adventurer. They are speaking about dealing with a 'cursed' place. Enter the throne room and speak to the king, and a short cutscene will play. The king asks the player to claim the vale, establish a fort, and save Bill from an unfortunate fate. After accepting the quest, follow the King's Road, which is located east of Varrock, north to the Wilderness and east of the Jolly Boar Inn to the vale.

Saving Bill the architect[edit | edit source]

Items recommended: Combat gear and food

Once arrived to the vale, the player finds another portal in front of the fort. Approaching the portal, the player notices that the area is overrun with numerous zombies. The player may prepare combat gear and food from the nearby bank chest before stepping on the portal. Although there are several level 21 zombies to defeat within the area, high combat level players should have no issue with them. They have 750 life point and are weak to water spells.

After clearing out the zombies, find Bill in a constructing town hall north of the well and ask him about establishing a fort here.

Building the workshop[edit | edit source]

Items needed: 8 wooden frames and 6 stone wall segments
Items recommended: 96 planks or logs, and 24 limestone bricks or limestones to made from scratch

Bill suggests building a workshop first to make planks and blocks. He brought his old sawmill for cutting logs into planks so that the player may use it in the fort. There's also a workbench for assembling wooden frames and a contraption for cutting stone into stone wall segments. Check the blueprints on the table to find out how many wooden frames and stone wall segments you need to build the workshop. The player will need to create 8 wooden frames and 6 stone wall segments.

To build the wooden frames from planks, first create refined planks at the sawmill in the fort, then use the woodworking bench to create frames out of refined planks. The sawmill and the woodworking bench are adjacent to each other in the workshop much like an Inventor's workbench. To build the stone wall segments, use the stonecutter with limestone bricks. You can buy limestone bricks and planks from Bill. Once these are done, use the blueprint to create the workshop. Bill will tell you to interact with the construction hotspots. The optimal one will be sparkling and give you extra progress but will occasionally move. Follow it for the fastest progress.

Once the player finishes building the workshop, Bill suggests recruiting Aster Dunnet, whose job is doing accounts for the Blue Moon Inn's landlord, as a steward.

Recruiting help[edit | edit source]

Go to the Blue Moon Inn near the southern entrance of Varrock to talk to Aster Dunnet. They are located outside the inn on the patio. Being responsible to manage everything that occurs within the fort, Aster recommends to recruit somebody to oversee communications and logistics.

Aster suggests the player to talk to a Fremennik woman named Siv to recruit her for overseer, who is in Gunnarsgrunn setting up a new trade route between the Fremennik Province and Gunnarsgrunn. Crossing the River Lum west of Varrock, the player finds her right near Gunnarsgrunn mine and outside the entrance to the Stronghold of Security. After a brief introduction, the player notices that the undead are always crawling around the fort.

Siv will refer the player to the good priest Father Flint to recruit as a priest. He is preaching in the Draynor Village market. After talking to Father Flint and persuading him to join, return to the fort and meet Bill to continue fortifying the fort.

Building the gates and walls[edit | edit source]

Items needed: 20 planks and 82 stone wall segments
Items recommended: 20 logs, and 328 limestone bricks or limestones to make from scratch
The player is building a wall in the fort.

Prepare 82 stone wall segments, and 20 regular wooden (not refined) planks, to build all sections of the wall and two sets of gates. The player may buy some limestone bricks from Bill, but his stock is not enough to fulfil the requirement at once. Therefore the player needs to get more elsewhere unless the player intends to wait for a stock refresh. For players with access to Prifddinas, there is a sawmill operator a short distance from a player-owned house portal in the Ithell Clan who sells 250 limestone bricks (or 500 when the Voice of Seren is active in the district).

Start building two gates and ten wall sections by checking the blueprints at the blueprint station. After checking blueprint and confirming to build that section, the player must interact with the construction hotspots of that part to complete that section in order to start building the next section. Each section takes approximately 4 minutes to build while maintaining "Perfect Build" at 100%.

Finishing up[edit | edit source]

After fortifying the fort by building all wall and gate segments, talk to Bill again to meet Aster, Bill, Father Flint, and Overseer Siv together in the middle of the fort. Aster helps players to address a title as the king declared the fort a new duchy.

Aster also makes a suggestion to name the fort, the duchy of Forinthry in the Kingdom of Misthalin. The player names this new duchy "Fort Forinthry".

Congratulations, quest complete!
