Royal dragon leather is used to train Crafting, and it is always in high demand. Because Royal dragonhide must be tanned into leather before it can be crafted, tanning the hides in bulk can be highly profitable.

Because the price difference between hides and leather can be fairly small, it is important to buy the hides for a low price and sell the leather for a high price; up to 50% of the profit can be lost otherwise. Test the profit by buying one Royal dragonhide and one Royal dragon leather. If the difference between the two is less than 200, it may be worth it to switch to green, blue, red, or black dragonhide.

It should be noted that royal dragonhide has a buylimit of 10,000 every 4 hours. It should take around 10 minutes to tan them. It's recommeded to have at least 12,159,662 coins though this is the least amount of coins needed for doing this method for 5 minutes. It is possible to work around the limit by letting the order fill while doing other activities, directly trading with other players, or by using alternate accounts.

To tan dragon leather with maximum efficiency, deploy a portable crafter near a bank or bank chest (for example, near the bank chest in Castle Wars), make a preset with 28 royal dragonhide, and load it. Then right-click the crafter and choose Tan Leather. Additionally, portable crafters can be used on the one already deployed to increase its duration by five minutes per crafter. It is also possible to avoid the cost of the portable crafters by using those placed by other players. The Lumbridge Market on world 84 and the Minigames and D&Ds forum are good places to check.

To get the fastest tanning speeds, make sure to join the lowest ping world.

1. Zoom in and adjust your camera so the portable crafter and the bank would be next to each other.
2. Now load your bank preset by pressing a keybind, then instead of closing the bank interface, click on the portable.
3. Press space, and at the same time, click on the banker.

This way, the bank or tanning interface will not have to fully load, causing little to no delay. 60,000 royal dragonhides can be tanned in this way per hour; however, at its peak, it is possible to tan over 6,600 hides per portable crafter or nearly 80,000 per hour.
