This guide assumes 5,000 soils screened per hour, using the items suggested above, with an Archaeology level of at least 120. This guide also assumes a 90% base material rate from sifting soil, and ignores any potential profit from artefacts found while sifting.

The materials gained are approximations based on the listed drop rates in each soils' page and may be different depending on your Archaeology level.

Note that the buy limit of each soil is 5,000 per 4 hours; you can get around this limit by cycling the type of soil you choose to sift. It is also possible to work around the limit by letting the order fill while doing other activities, directly trading with other players, or by using alternate accounts. Be warned that each soil has different profit margins.

Wearing the full Master archaeologist's outfit and casting Sift Soil allows soil to be screened at a rate of 1 soil per tick, or a theoretical maximum rate of roughly 5,680 soil per hour. In addition, the Sift Soil spell removes the need for a screening station, allowing soil to be sifted right next to a bank. This in turn removes the need for porters, saving a significant amount of money.

The fastest way to start screening soil with Sift Soil is by casting the spell while holding down the spacebar. Sift Soil can sift up to 100 soil (or, more likely, until your inventory fills up) without needing to be recast, but each soil screened will consume one Astral rune.

A Waterfiend familiar should be used for a 5% chance to double any item received from screening soil, translating to a 5% increase in materials.

Just like a screening station, Sift Soil can screen soil directly from a soil box. As such, you should store soil in the soil box to minimize banking time. The fastest way to store materials without banking the soil box itself is to use a Material storage container. However, you also need a bank nearby from which to refill your soil box. The closest Material storage container to a bank is located at the Archaology Guild campus, north of the Mysterious monolith.

The cost for the porters might be mitigated using a Premier artifact, with the benefit to act 50% as a porter, for free.
