Cactus spines can be picked from the cactus patches in Al Kharid, Menaphos and on anachronia. A new one spawns on the cactus every 25 minutes, for up to 3 total per patch. Use the Al Kharid lodestone and walk east to the cactus patch. Pick the three spines, possibly noting them with the tool leprechaun. Repeat at the Menaphos cactus patch, using the Menaphos lodestone and walking north-west to the patch. If you have totem of the abyss on the northern location you can then use Anachronia Teleport and harvest the anachronia patch.

Completing the hard Desert Tasks is strongly recommended, as it will double the yield of cactus spines. When combined with the giant ent, you'll get an average of 9 spines per patch, up from 3 without any bonuses.

If possible, you should use a giant ent familiar, which has a 50% chance of doubling the yield of cactus spines, giving you an average of 4.5 spines instead of 3. That makes this method work well with other harvesting money makers, such as picking papayas or coconuts. The 75 minute timer also makes it coincide well with herb farming runs (which can be done every 80 minutes), although giant ents do not give a harvest boost to herbs.
