Crafting cosmic runes through the Abyss

At realistic speed, you can do 60 trips to the Cosmic Altar via the Abyss per hour, using the Wilderness sword to teleport back to Edgeville, and using the tool belt items to mine through the rocks in the abyss.
Using the small through giant Runecrafting pouches, you can hold up to 54 essence per trip, resulting in a profit of 30,780 coins per trip. Be sure to regularly repair the pouches as the giant pouch degrades after 12 uses. A massive pouch 17 more net runes, but requires 1,000 Runespan points and degrades into dust after 42 uses. In addition, the Infinity ethereal outfit can store 12 essence for a profit of 2,928,168 coins per hour.
The Mage of Zamorak is located in low-level wilderness, near the source of the River Lum. This is a fairly safe area, but there might be PKers so it is advised not to take expensive items on the trips to the abyss. The best setup would be cheap but protective gear. Inside the abyss, the creatures there will be aggressive and might do fair amounts of damage. See Abyss#Strategy for more information on how to navigate the abyss. Once inside, enter the cosmic rift and craft the essence in your inventory and your pouches. Teleport back to Edgeville with a Wilderness sword and repeat.
You can maximise the speed of your runs by creating 2 bank presets and binding them to the numbers 1 and 2. The first bank preset should have your backpack containing your 4 pouches and the remaining spaces filled with pure essence. Your second preset should be the same, but also include your equipment with a Wilderness sword and any other equipment you want to bring with you.
First, open your bank and right click each of your pouches to fill them, then load your first bank preset. Complete your run to the abyss and repeat this until your amulet is out of charge. Now, again fill your pouches but this time load your second preset. This will reduce banking times and therefore make it possible for you to create more cosmic runes per hour. Completing Hero's Welcome allows the player to make 5% more runes. Players also have a chance of receiving magical thread (currently worth 196522 coins each) while crafting runes via the Abyss.
Completing the Wilderness Tasks is helpful. All versions of the Wilderness sword provide infinite free teleports to Edgeville while the Wilderness sword 3 and above give a chance for the Mage of Zamorak to teleport the player directly to the centre of the Abyss, thus saving time and further increasing the profit per hour. Alternatively, with 68 Archaeology, use of the Nexus Mod relic will allow you to always arrive in the centre, further saving time and increasing profit.
Runecrafting potions are also useful at lower levels. Although players cannot craft triple cosmic runes, boosts can allow double cosmics runes to be crafted before reaching level 59.
With lesser familiars, you'll be reduced to 3960 or 3660 essence, respectively:
