Material caches are locations scattered throughout Gielinor that each yield one single type of material used in Archaeology. Unlike excavation hotspots, material caches do not contain artefacts. Excavating material caches located at dig sites can also yield the soil of that dig site. Materials are used to restore damaged artefacts.

Caches are not instanced and can be interacted with by multiple players. Material caches deplete similarly to trees; when a cache is depleted, it's unavailable to all players for a short time. The higher level the cache, the longer it will take to respawn. The Refined perk has a chance to prevent a cache from depleting.

Most materials have at least two distinct cache locations: one within a thematically-related dig site, and one outside of a dig site. Certain cache locations outside of dig sites require quests to access.
