Magic bean (sundry) detail.png

Magic bean (sundry) was a type of magic bean which could be bought from the Farmers' Market for 400 beans. It could be placed in mushroom, hops, allotment, and evil turnip patches. When planted, the beans grew in about five seconds into a crop that the player could plant in the respective patch. The crop grown was a randomly selected from all potential crops up to 20 levels below the player's Farming level.[1]

It was replaced by the supreme growth potion (sundry).

Experience[edit | edit source]

At higher farming levels, the best use of sundry magic beans was at the Canifis mushroom patch. Starting at level 74, the player was guaranteed to grow morchella mushrooms at this patch, which could be harvested nine times, giving 77.7 experience each. Adding the planting experience of 160, this gave a base experience of 859.3 Farming experience per cycle. This experience was unaffected by achievement set rewards or zygomite perks, but was affected by various experience boosting items: the farmer's outfit and its elite version, the master farmer outfit; items with the Wise perk; clan avatar boosts; decorated farming urns; urn enhancers; experience-enhancing auras; etc.

Value[edit | edit source]

Magic beans could be very profitable to plant. It was not recommended that players plant them in the evil turnip patch or allotments due to them offering much less valuable produce.

There was a 1/50 chance to receive a gloomshroom zygomite per mushroom harvested. On average, with no bonuses, the player would receive 0.18 zygomite per magic bean planted.

Below level 74 Farming, the player was not guaranteed to receive morchella mushrooms, and as such, the profit may be different. In addition, certain bonuses would affect the number of mushrooms received, such as the elite Morytania achievements, which would double the amount harvested. See below for more details.

The distribution of reed to grapevines planted may[source needed] depended on the player's Farming level. At level 99, the player would receive an equal amount of both.

At 99 Farming, this produced an average of 128,952.6 coins per magic bean, or 322.38 coins per bean. This could be further increased with the greenfingers aura. However, this method required additional work over morchella mushrooms, as the grapes had to be put into jugs of water to make the wine that could be sold. One can speed up the process by only making wines of Saradomin, reducing the value to 85,947 coins per magic bean or 214.87 coins per bean.

Evil turnip[edit | edit source]

Evil turnips were only recommended if the player's Farming level was too low to receive bittercap mushrooms, as the mushrooms were much more valuable.

Morchella mushrooms[edit | edit source]

By growing morchella mushrooms at the Canifis patch, the value of sundry magic beans could be approximated. This value could be increased by completing the elite Morytania achievements and by putting farm totems on medium pens that contain at least one elder zygomite, in order to get the Uncapped Potential farm perk.

There was a chance to obtain unchecked gloomshroom zygomites (worth 166,498 coins) from the morchella mushroom patch. At a chance per harvest, and 9 harvests per magic bean, there was a chance of getting a zygomite per planting. Including this chance added an average value of 27,680.67 coins per magic bean, or 69.2 coins per bean. Including the bonuses of both the elite Morytania achievements and the tier 2 zygomite farm totem perk, this brought the maximum average value harvest to 125,274.87 coins per magic bean, or 313.19 coins per bean.

In addition, players could drink perfect plus potion or perfect juju farming potion to have a chance at obtaining harmony moss per harvest, and 9 harvests per magic bean. There was a chance of getting harmony moss per planting. Including this chance added an average value of 1,111.84 coins per magic bean, or 2.78 coins per bean. Finally, players wearing Tirannwn quiver 3 or Tirannwn quiver 4 would have a 10% chance to get 2 harmony moss per harvest, granting slightly more gold per sundry magic bean. Having the yak perk active while doing these runs could also grant the player a 2.5% chance at a clue scroll. Players could wear the Farming cape to provide a chance to instantly harvest all remaining resources from a crop in noted form (includes chance at zygomites/harmony moss). Players could also wear the grace of the elves necklace and luck of the dwarves ring to get drops from the rare drop table. The greenfingers aura also works.
