Research

(Redirected from Lockdown)
The location of the research notes table where research is performed

Research is a part of Archaeology during which players can send research teams on expeditions and acquire materials, Archaeology experience, and sometimes artefacts.

The research tutorial is unlocked by reaching the assistant qualification; the tutorial is started by managing the research notes table in the Exam Centre at the Archaeology Campus. After the tutorial players are required to use chronotes to pay researchers for their work by using the research notes. In the case an expedition is terminated before completion, the chronotes that were paid to send the research team will be forfeit and no experience, artefacts, or materials will be gained to compensate for elapsed time.

General research

General Research interface

After speaking with a dig site's manager, players can begin general research expeditions to the dig site. These expeditions will return after a chosen length of time, with options of 1 hour, 2 hours, 4 hours, 8 hours, 12 hours, and 24 hours before any speed modifiers. The XP rewards and chronotes costs are scaled linearly based upon the selected time. The cost of general research increases with the player's Archaeology level and each site has a modifier related to the level required to start there.[1]

In addition to Archaeology experience, materials required to restore the damaged artefacts obtainable from the dig site are rewarded, and more rarely damaged artefacts from the dig site.

It is recommended to complete special research expeditions first if any are available, as these can be done only once and provide proportionally better rewards than general research expeditions.

The Archaeology experience rates for general research is listed below. Experience and chronote cost for research in Infernal Source, Everlight Dig Site, and Senntisten Dig Site are 5% higher, and in Stormguard Citadel, Warforge, and Orthen Dig Site 10% higher than in Kharid-et Dig Site. The Stormguard / Warforge / Orthen column is left blank below level 70 since none of the dig sites are available before that level.

The chronotes cost for general research expeditions scales linearly by both the player's level in Archaeology and the duration of the expedition. For cost calculation a multiplier ${\displaystyle M}$ is used, which is defined to be the player's Archaeology level ${\displaystyle L}$ at even levels, and ${\displaystyle L-1}$ at odd levels. Each hour of research at Kharid-et Dig Site costs ${\displaystyle 5M}$ chronotes. This increases to ${\displaystyle 5.25M}$ chronotes for Infernal Source Dig Site, Everlight Dig Site, and Senntisten Dig Site, and further to ${\displaystyle 5.5M}$ chronotes for Stormguard Citadel Dig Site, Warforge Dig Site, and Orthen Dig Site.

Special research

Special Research interface

While exploring the various dig sites, players will find studies that can be researched by sending the research team. These often give experience as well as an artefact from that dig site.

Each special research expedition can only be completed once. Special research progress and information about them can found in the Archaeology journal.

All the special research expeditions have a base duration of 40 minutes, except the tutorial expedition Mysterious Monolith: Existence, which reads 30 minutes on the interface but actually completes instantly, the rest of the general special research (taking 30 minutes each), Incomplete Portal Network I (taking 20 minutes), and Incomplete Portal Network III (taking an hour). The player's base level must meet the requirement in order to send an expedition; temporary boosts such as cups of soil tea do not work.

Completing all the special research in one of the following sections unlocks a corresponding achievement.

Researchers can be hired and added (for a price) to expeditions. These researchers each offer speed and cost buffs to the expedition.

Players can only hire researchers that are a tier below their current qualification.
