Iron rivets can be made by using cold iron or heated iron on the anvil in the Breaking the Storm event area. Cold iron provides one set of rivets per action, whereas heated iron provides two sets per action. You must heat the cold iron in the furnace as the Smithing autoheater does not work. 20 rivets can subsequently be attached per action on the boat construction site for Construction experience, which is roughly 70% more experience compared to reinforcing the hull without using rivets.

Rivets are attached in the sets of 20 continuously, and each attachment takes 3.6 seconds. At 99 Construction this yields 117.6 base Construction experience. During the event there is 10% boost to the experience, and for the first 125 daily skilling actions in the area the base experience is doubled.

Although the item is free-to-play, it can only be added to the boat by members, making it useless after their creation on free-to-play worlds.

Any remaining iron rivets were removed after the beginning of 10 July 2019.
