Incense sticks
Incense sticks are slivers of wooden logs combined with demonic ashes and herbs. Each kind of incense stick has a different effect that players can use. The effect is activated by consuming an incense stick. Making and using incense requires Firemaking.
Details[edit | edit source]
Creation[edit | edit source]
Incense sticks are created in three steps:
- Cut logs into incense sticks (2 logs to 1 stick); click on log to 'Craft' bringing up a 'Choose a Tool' window and select 'Incense sticks'.
- Apply 2 demonic ashes to 1 incense sticks (1 stick plus 2 ashes to 1 ashed stick)
- Add a herb to the ashed incense sticks (1 herb plus 1 ashed stick to 1 completed stick)
Each step grants some Firemaking experience. Additionally, adding the demonic ashes to the incense sticks also grants the same amount of Prayer experience as scattering those ashes. You can make maximum of 375 sticks an hour from scratch, with no banking times included.
Timer[edit | edit source]
When initially lit, incense has a base time of 10 minutes. More incense can be lit at any time to add 10 minutes per incense to the timer, capping at 60 minutes.
Incense can be active indefinitely if more incense is consumed after waiting a while - so you can use 6 right away, wait 30 minutes, then consume 3 more.
The timer does not decrease while logged out.
Potency[edit | edit source]
When lit, incense begins at potency level 1. Every 10 minutes, the potency increases by 1 up to a cap of potency level 4, multiplying the effect of the incense by the potency (e.g. potency 4 guam sticks provide a 40% chance).
Alternatively, incense can be 'overloaded' via a right-click option. This consumes 6 incense and skips straight to potency level 4, but only provides 10 minutes of the effect (which can be extended with more incense, as normal).
Regardless of waiting 30 minutes or overloading, potency level 4 can be maintained indefinitely as long as more of the incense is lit before the effect expires completely.
Multiple effects[edit | edit source]
Players are limited by the amount of incense sticks they may have activated simultaneously based on their Firemaking level. Attempting to activate any incense sticks beyond the player's max limit will prompt the player to choose which one they wish to override.

Notably, marrentill and irit stack multiplicatively, not additively. For example: potency 3 irit (75%) + potency 2 marrentill (25%) does not yield 100% poison resistance, rather 81.25% (1 - (1-0.75) * (1-0.25)).
