Hazelmere's signet ring is a ring and hero item that, when worn, slightly increases the chances to receive certain unique drops and rewards that are affected by the luck mechanic. It is classified as a tier 4 luck enhancer, in addition to also providing the effects of a tier 1-3 luck enhancer.

The ring shines whenever a rare drop is received, not necessarily when the ring impacted the drop.[1] When the ring shines, the following message appears in the chat box: You feel the luck of Hazelmere shine and you receive: # x item. The ring can be equipped right before the monster dies or before the player loots the monster's chest or corpse to benefit from the ring's luck effect.

The ring also provides unlimited teleports to:

When worn, there is a chance for the ring to double any drop. However, drops that come from interfaces cannot be doubled due to technical difficulties.[2] For example, looting from chests or bodies of Queen Black Dragon, Araxxi, Raids bosses, or Telos, the Warden will not activate the effect. Furthermore, drops that are sent directly to the chest in Sophanem Slayer Dungeon and Elite Dungeons will not be doubled. When a drop is doubled, the following message appears in the chat box: The power of Hazelmere blesses your <item>, doubling it before your very eyes! The chance of this doubling effect activating is currently unknown.

The ring can be received from any monster with access to the rare drop table, including rewards from a Seren spirit. It is obtained from the "Super Rare" section of the rare drop table, requiring players to have tier 4 luck to receive it as a monster drop.[3][4] Being on a Slayer assignment is not required to receive the ring as a drop.[5] Receiving a Blurberry Special drop indicates a failed 1/10 chance roll for the ring. Receiving a cheese+tom batta drop indicates a player would have rolled for a chance at the ring but did not use a tier 4 luck item.[6]

Hazelmere's signet ring can be imbued by the Armoursmith for 10,000 Teci, making Hazelmere's signet ring (i) which has the same effects and damage bonuses increased by 2.7.

History[edit | edit source]

Hazelmere's signet ring was released as a hidden update along with the luck rework on 27 March 2017; information on how to obtain the ring was not provided.

According to Mod Timbo, Hazelmere's signet ring had been obtainable since the release of the luck rework[8] and there were no quest requirements to obtain the ring.[9] Mod Timbo hinted that obtaining Hazelmere's signet ring from the rare drop table was "on the right track"[10] and later confirmed on 17 April 2017 that Hazelmere's signet ring is obtained from the "Super Rare" section of the rare drop table, requiring players to have at least tier 4 luck to receive it as a monster drop. The ring is obtained in a similar manner as the Vecna skull, except the ring is much rarer.[3]

Throughout April, players theorised that the ring was bugged and could not drop,[11] was time-gated,[12] required other luck-enhancing items on top of luck of the Dwarves,[13] related to the Mysterious perk[14] or could only be obtained through treasure trails.[15] However, Mod Timbo confirmed these theories were false. On 27 May 2017, Mod Timbo explicitly confirmed that no other special conditions are needed to obtain the ring.[16]

Despite claims of the ring being obtained by players as early as April,[17] Mod Timbo continued to adjust the drop rate of Hazelmere's signet ring post-release, increasing the chance slightly over time until Mod Timbo announced on 30 May that a player had received the ring as a drop while killing dark beasts.[18] An announcement was to be displayed in-game when the first ring dropped, but because the player who received it had their private chat off, no server-wide announcement was made.[19] Mod Timbo sent a message to the player to inform them of what the ring was and its functions.[20] Subsequent drops did not initially result in a server-wide announcement; this was changed in a hidden update.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Despite initially stating Hazelmere's signet ring was unrelated to Hazelmere's lore,[21] Mod Timbo later revealed in a Content Developers Q&A that his inspiration came from an idea that Hazelmere had once owned and lost a ring that "had some mystical properties over luck".[22]
  • The ring shares the same model as Mabel's ring in the Love Story quest.
  • As of 12 February 2018, there were 103 Hazelmere's signet rings in the entire game.[23]
  • As of 4 December 2018, there were fewer than 300 Hazelmere's signet rings in the entire game.[24] This number increased to 665 (of which 245 were imbued) by 6 August 2019.[25]
  • Following the update on 15 October 2018 Hazelmere's signet ring can double rare rewards (Blightbound crossbows and Erethdor's grimoire) from Solak, even though they're not dropped to the ground and instead placed in a player's inventory when obtained. It can also double rewards from Big Game Hunter as this activity uses a similar loot system.
  • During the second week of the 20th Anniversary celebrations, an additional bonus line follows the drop received as (Celebration of Combat bonus).
