Harmonic dust is a material used in Crystal Singing tools and equipment in Prifddinas. Pickpocketing Ithell workers, playing a harp in the Ithell district of the city, and looting the Motherlode Maw are potential ways to obtain it. It sometimes appears in the Travelling Merchant's Shop.

Uses[edit | edit source]

Harmonic dust can be used to make crystal tools and equipment by Crystal Singing, which also requires a crystal weapon seed, crystal armour seed, crystal tool seed or an uncharged crystal teleport seed. Use the singing bowl in the Ithell Clan district and sing the desired item, granting Smithing experience. Alternatively, some of the seeds can be sung into equipment by paying Eluned or Ilfeen with coins instead.

4,000 harmonic dust can also be used to convert a dragon hatchet into a crystal hatchet, a dragon pickaxe or Imcando pickaxe into a crystal pickaxe, or a dragon mattock into a crystal mattock. This is done by talking to Lady Ithell, and works even if the dragon items are on the tool belt. It is also possible to turn augmented dragon items into their crystal versions; to do this, the item must be used on Lady Ithell.

4,000 harmonic dust is also required to upgrade a Crystal teleport seed into an Attuned crystal teleport seed.

5,000 harmonic dust is required to make a blessed flask shell. This adds up to 21,000 harmonic dust for all augmentable tools (an additional 4,000 are needed to have a second crystal hatchet, one augmented and one on the toolbelt and another 150 is needed to avoid the 510,000 cost of the rod), the teleport seed and the flask.

Sources[edit | edit source]

Playing the harps in the Ithell district grants a chance of receiving 1 dust and 80 Crafting experience (96 experience when the Voice of Seren is on the Ithell district) every three seconds. However, the rate will be reduced when the harp becomes out of tune by at least 50%. This, coupled with the time taken to tune, gives a lower rate of roughly 60,000 experience per hour. While the Voice is active, harps also go out of tune at a much lower rate, meaning a greater rate of dust. At level 99 Crafting, a player can get about 700 harmonic dust an hour (which equals 56,000 experience an hour).

A strategy to maximise the amount of experience per hour is to tune the harp when it reaches 30% out of tune, or 20% when the Voice of Seren is active. One observation (unsubstantiated) is that when the harp is fully tuned, there does not seem to be a higher chance of gaining harmonic dust, but rather a lower chance of a null result (e.g., harp does not give harmonic dust, nor go out of tune) and therefore retuning the harp at 10% may be inadvisable, as it can immediately go out of tune again due to the lower chance of a null result. If true, allowing the harp to get to 30% and even 40% out of tune would mean the same chance of gaining harmonic dust, but a lower chance of the harp going out of tune. Sitting in lower tune percentages for longer periods of time may save clicks and attention, though it would come at the cost of a higher chance of a null result and therefore less dust per hour.

The Artificer's measure provides a constant Ithell Voice of Seren buff effect, regardless of the current Voice of Seren. This does not stack with the actual Ithell Voice of Seren when it is active.

500-1,000 harmonic dust can be purchased for 2,000,000 coins from the Travelling Merchant's Shop; the price would be 2,000 - 4,000 coins per harmonic dust.

A one time reward of 1,000 harmonic dust is given after completing the Elite Tirannwn achievements from Elen Anterth. However, this reward is negated by the requirement to sing an attuned crystal weapon in order to complete one of the elite tasks.

It's also possible to receive harmonic dust as a reward from Meg in the player-owned port.
