Gameplay settings is a section inside of the Options menu. There are six general sections, each with a number of sub-sections.

Many options are included in multiple areas, such as experience gains for Combat.

Game Interaction[edit | edit source]

Default Action and Interaction Menu

  • Camera mode
    • Classic: Shorter maximum zoom and increased default rotation speed.
    • Modern: Larger maximum zoom and reduced default rotation speed.
    • Freedom: Allows extreme zoom and angle values.
  • Lock zoom
    • Fixes camera zoom to current distance.

Keyboard and Mouse speeds[edit | edit source]

Controls how quickly the camera moves horizontally and vertically (Sliders)

Change the behaviour of game interaction and available option[edit | edit source]

  • Mouseover text
    • Display tooltips for game objects under the mouse cursor. Show default action and item information.
  • Show extra potion information on tooltip
    • Shows more information about potion effects on a potion's tooltip
  • One-button gameplay
    • Always display the interaction menu on left click.
  • Hide cogs on augmented items
    • Hides cog icons for augmented Invention items.

Default Attack Options[edit | edit source]

  • Player attack option
    • Left click: First option, left click to select
    • Combat Level: First option if their combat level is equal to or below your own.
    • Right Click: Always a secondary option.
    • Hidden: Always hidden.
  • NPC attack option
    • Left click: First option, left click to select
    • Combat Level: First option if their combat level is equal to or below your own.
    • Right Click: Always a secondary option.
    • Hidden: Always hidden.
  • Hide familiar options
    • Hides options for Summoning familiar from interaction menu.
  • Hide duel option on players from interaction menu.

Advanced Interaction[edit | edit source]

  • Click-through chatboxes
    • Allow interactions with the gameworld through the chat box interface.
  • Upper-left hover text
    • Display text for default action on game objects under the mouse cursor.

UI Customisation[edit | edit source]

These settings apply to windows which are frequently on screen.

  • Disable shortcuts to close windows.
    • Shortcut keys will highlight the window instead if open.

Interface Appearance[edit | edit source]

  • Lock interface customisation
    • Prevent resizing and fix interfaces to their current positions.
  • Slim headers
    • Use a smaller title bar header on Action Windows, such as the Backpack.
  • Hide title bars when locked.
    • Remove title bars from Action Windows when interface is locked.
  • Transparency
    • Adjust background transparency for top level interfaces (Sliding value)

Advanced Interface Customisation[edit | edit source]

  • Edit Mode
    • Fully customise the interfaces and overlays to your own preferences. (Opens Edit Mode)

Optional Interfaces[edit | edit source]

  • Guidance system hints
    • Receive small tutorials while playing
  • Task complete pop-ups
    • Show a pop-up when you complete a task.
  • Task information window
    • Show an info window when completing a task.

Skilling and Experience[edit | edit source]

  • XP pop-ups
    • Display skill progression overlays while earning XP
  • Skill target based XP pop-ups
    • Base skill progression overlays on XP/Level targets, if set.
  • Make-X progress window
    • Base skill progression overlay while crafting items.
  • Slayer counter
    • Show the number of creature kills required for Slayer Tasks. (Off, On - Top right, On - Bottom right, On - Bottom left, On - Top left)
  • Slayer counter (legacy mode)
    • Show the number of creature kills required for Slayer Tasks.
  • Use XP speech bubbles
    • A speech bubble graphic will appear overhead when gaining XP.

Extra Overlays[edit | edit source]

  • Game clock visibility
    • Display an in-game clock. Times are in UTC and is used by in-game events. (Off, On (full background), On (border only)
  • Enables 5 minute D&D notification
    • Receive notifications when your favourite distraction and diversions are about to start.
  • Toggle favourite clock alarm
    • Play a sound when your favourite minigames are about to start.
  • Show reset timers on game clock
    • Show D&D reset timers when hovering over the favourite icon near the game clock.

Advanced Interface Customisation[edit | edit source]

  • Edit Mode
    • Fully customise the interfaces and overlays to your own preferences. (Opens Edit Mode).

Inventory[edit | edit source]

Change how items interact with your inventory.

  • Drag to drop items.
    • Drag and drop items onto the gameworld to drop or destroy them.
  • Dynamic backpack columns
    • Set a fixed maximum number of columns for the inventory item slots. Set it to 0 to calculate this automatically. (0-28)
  • Gain XP from lamp warning
    • Display a confirmation dialogue when redeeming an XP lamp.

Inventory Management[edit | edit source]

  • Auto-teleport current skilling urn and accumulators when full.

Destroy Empty Containers[edit | edit source]

Includes options to destroy various containers when they become empty.

  • Destroy empty containers when cooking
  • Destroy empty bowls when eating
  • Destroy empty pie dishes when eating
  • Destroy empty beer glasses when drinking
  • Destroy empty vials when drinking the final dose of a potion
  • Destroy empty empty vials when mixing potions
  • Destroy empty vials when decanting potions
  • Destroy empty plant pots when farming
  • Destroy empty buckets when farming

Bank and Shops[edit | edit source]

  • High risk area entry
    • Requires Bank PIN to have been entered during the session, before entering dangerous locations.
  • High value drop warning
    • Requires Bank PIN to have been entered during the session, before dropping high value items.
  • Require PIN every login
    • Require Bank PIN to be reentered every new session. (Only if logged out for over 10 minutes.)

Item Value Confirmation[edit | edit source]

  • Buy warning value
    • Display confirmation message if buying an item from a shop valued over this amount (minimum value 100,000)
  • Sell warning value
    • Display a confirmation message if selling an item to a shop valued over this amount (minimum value 30,000)

Buff Bar[edit | edit source]

Change which icons are displayed in the buff and debuff bars.

  • Boss specific
    • Includes bespoke effects from bosses.
  • Boosts
    • Includes boosts such as stat boosts and Guthixian Cache rewards.

Combat Effects[edit | edit source]

  • Prayers
    • Includes any prayers not displayed overhead.
  • Overhead prayers
    • Includes any prayers displayed overhead.
  • Offensive abilities
    • Includes abilities such as Sever and Slaughter.
  • Defensive abilities
    • Includes abilities such as Anticipation and Freedom.
  • Item effects
    • Includes potion and scrimshaw effects.
  • Pet effects
    • Includes timers for familiars and legendary pets.
  • Auras
    • Includes equipped aura effects.
  • Status effects
    • Includes stuns and poison effects.

Skill Effects[edit | edit source]

  • Skilling
    • Includes clan avatar and Thieving cooldown effects.
  • Invention perks
    • Includes perks such as aftershock, devoted and crackling.

Combat[edit | edit source]

Combat Mode[edit | edit source]

Change which style of combat you use.

  • Full Manual
    • Trigger all abilities manually for full control.
  • Revolution
    • Automate ability usage on the main action bar. Manual input overrides automation until it is activated.
  • Legacy Combat Mode
    • Simplified combat, removing abilities and closer to Old School combat. Only melee special attacks are available.
  • Show HUD combat mode icon.
    • Display a HUD icon for the current combat mode.

Revolution Combat and Abilities[edit | edit source]

  • Revolution size
    • Set how many slots on the action bar are automatically used in revolution combat mode (1-14)

Automated Ability Activation[edit | edit source]

  • Automatically trigger basic abilities
  • Automatically trigger threshold abilities
  • Automatically trigger ultimate abilities

Action Bar[edit | edit source]

Main article: Action bar

Action bar binding settings can be used to switch your primary action bar when your weapon changes.

  • Toggle ability cooldown timer
    • Display the seconds left until the ability can be used again.
  • Allow ability queueing
    • Trying to trigger an ability on cooldown will set it to activate once ready.
  • Automatically trigger regenerate
    • Automatically trigger regenerate when leaving combat.
  • Manual spell casting
    • Require selecting a target when using spells.
  • Block incoming share offers
    • Stop receiving requests from other players to share their action bar setups.

Display Additional Action Bars[edit | edit source]

Choose up to four existing action bar setups

Action Bar Equipment Binding[edit | edit source]

  • Switch bar when loading bank presets
  • Disable action bar binding

Action Bar Binding Setup[edit | edit source]

Allows binding an action bar to a specific combat style (2h, 1h, and all, for each style)

Targeting[edit | edit source]

Change how you interact with the combat system.

  • Show target information
    • Display target information when your cursor is over a target.
  • Target reticules
    • Display an active target marker on the floor when attacking a target.

Default Attack Options[edit | edit source]

  • Player attack option
    • Left click: First option, left click to select
    • Combat Level: First option if their combat level is equal to or below your own.
    • Right Click: Always a secondary option.
    • Hidden: Always hidden.
  • NPC attack option
    • Left click: First option, left click to select
    • Combat Level: First option if their combat level is equal to or below your own.
    • Right Click: Always a secondary option.
    • Hidden: Always hidden.

Target Cycling Keybinds[edit | edit source]

  • Cycle target - Forwards keybind
  • Cycle target - Backwards keybind
  • Direct targeting keybind

Target Cycling Settings[edit | edit source]

  • Targeting mode
    • The pattern is used when cycling through targets
    • Radial - Selection in rings surrounding your character
    • Conal - Selection in a conal arc from your character in the direction the camera faces.
  • Maximum target distance
    • Maximum distance from the player that a target can be cycled to. (2-9)
  • PvP area target selection
    • Types of targets that can be cycled to (NPCs and Players, Players only, NPCs only)

Hitsplat Damage Indicator[edit | edit source]

Colors choices: Default (Red), Blue, Green, Yellow, Dark Blue, Brown, Legacy (EoC Numbers), Dark Purple

Player

  • Melee hitsplats
  • Ranged hitsplats
  • Magic hitsplats

Other Players

  • Other players melee hitsplats
  • Other players ranged hitsplats
  • Other players magic hitsplats

Combat XP[edit | edit source]

These settings control the experience gained in combat. At least one skill must be selected in each of Melee, Ranged, and Magic categories.

Each setting splits the experience gained equally between the selected skills and Constitution.

Melee Combat XP
Choose combination of Attack XP, Strength XP, and Defence XP

  • Block PvP XP
    • XP will no longer be granted from Player vs Player combat.

  • Block PvP XP
    • XP will no longer be granted from Player vs Player combat.

Virtual Levelling[edit | edit source]

  • Toggle virtual levelling
    • XP beyond the maximum level in a skill will display as higher levels. This has no impact on gameplay.
  • Toggle golden trim around max level stats
    • Display a golden trim for skills at their maximum level in the skills interface.
  • Virtual level cap icon
    • Display this icon on skills at the virtual level cap.
  • XP cap icon
    • Icon to display on skills where you have reached the XP cap.

Mining[edit | edit source]

Options:

  • Show stamina bar when mining.
    • Display an indicator of your current stamina when mining. (Stamina unlocks at 15 Mining.)
  • Disable mining hitsplats
    • Disable the critical and multiplier hitsplats when mining.
  • Stop receiving sedimentary geodes when mining.
  • Stop receiving igneous geodes when mining.
    • Note: this will also stop giving metamorphic geodes.
  • Stop receiving metamorphic geodes when mining.

Player Owned Home[edit | edit source]

Options:

  • Teleport arrival location:
    • Select where the Player-Owned Home teleport spell will take you. (House or Portal)
  • Initial door state
    • Always open doors upon entering your Player-Owned Home.
  • Building mode
    • Add or remove furniture and rooms within your Player-Owned Home. This can take a few seconds to apply, but will untick automatically if it fails.

Aquarium Settings[edit | edit source]

Options:

  • Gaining Prawn Balls
    • Gain Prawn Balls while fishing (Level 63 Construction required).
  • Featherless Fly Fishing
    • Choose the type of fish your prawn perk will grant you. You must first unlock this perk from the Aquarium. (Trout/Salmon or Rainbow Fish)
  • Catching Great White Sharks
    • you will be able to catch Great White Sharks. You must first unlock this perk from the Aquarium.

Slayer[edit | edit source]

  • Slayer counter
    • Show the number of creature kills required for Slayer Tasks. (Off, On - Top right, On - Bottom right, On - Bottom left, On - Top left)
  • Slayer counter (legacy mode)
    • Show the number of creature kills required for Slayer Tasks.

Reaper Assignments[edit | edit source]

  • Enable group assignments
    • Include bosses that require more than one adventurer (Nex, Kalphite King, Vorago and Barrows: Rise of Sick) as possible assignemtns.
    • If eligible for at least one of these bosses, gain a 25% boost to reaper points on completion of any assignment.
    • This setting cannot be changed while a reaper assignment is active.
  • Enable larger tasks
    • Receive twice the normal number of souls assigned per task.
    • Gain a 25% boost to reaper points on completion of any assignment.
    • This setting cannot be changed while a reaper assignment is active.

Social[edit | edit source]

Chat Customisation[edit | edit source]

  • Enter quick chat
    • When the enter message box is selected and is empty, us [Enter] as a shortcut to access quick chat.
  • Local timestamps in chat box
    • Show your local time next to to chat messages.
    • This may be different to the clock interface, which shows the UTC time.
  • Hide public chat effects in game view
    • All player overhead chat will appear the same colour with no special effects.
  • Prefix for clan and friends chat
    • Each option is displayed in the following formats:
    • Full:[MyClanName] MyName: MyMessage
    • Short:[CC] MyName: MyMessage
    • Off:MyName: MyMessage
  • Split private chat
    • Fully customise the interfaces and overlays to your own preferences.

Custom Message Colors[edit | edit source]

Players can pick the colors used for Public, Friends, Private, Clan, Guest clan, Group, Group (team), Global Broadcast, World Broadcast, and Friend Broadcast.

Notification Messages[edit | edit source]

Choose which notifications appear in your chat history.

  • Hide player log in/out notification

Game System Login Notifications[edit | edit source]

  • Hide Eastern Lands login messages
  • Hide Player Owned Ports ship update messages.
  • Hide Clan login messages.
  • Hide Clan event reminder messages.
  • Hide daily challenge login messages

D&D and World Event Notifications[edit | edit source]

  • Demon Raids
    • Receive a chat notification when a demon flash mob is due to appear.
  • Goblin Raids
    • Receive a chat notification when a goblin raid is due to appear.
  • Guthix Cache
    • Receive a chat notification when a Guthixian cache is due to open.
  • Sinkholes
    • Receive a chat notification when a sinkhole is due to appear.
  • Wilderness Warbands
    • Receive a chat notification when wilderness warbands are due to appear.
  • WildyWyrm Spawn
    • Receive a chat notification when WildyWyrm is due to appear.
  • Enable 5 minute D&D notification
    • Receive notifications when your favourite distraction and diversions are about to start.

Accept Aid[edit | edit source]

Main article: Accept Aid

Decide which players can offer to aid or assist you in various ways. (Everybody, Friends and Clan, Nobody)

  • Invitations
    • Controls social Slayer, linking Dominion Tower medallions, receiving items in Stealing Creation, inviting players to private hunting grounds, receiving a treasure chest key, and receiving clan meeting invitations.
  • Assistance requests
    • Assist lower-level players by allowing them to access level-locked skill training methods that someone has unlocked. Gain XP for their actions while assisting.

Spells and Teleport Assists[edit | edit source]

  • Tele-other
    • Controls group teleport and tele-other spells.
  • Lunar spells
    • Controls non-teleport group effects from the Lunar spellbook.
  • Seren spells
    • Controls group effects from the Seren spellbook.

Other Assists[edit | edit source]

  • Beneficial boosts
    • Controls Clan Battlefield healing potions, butterfly effects, and social Slayer potion sharing options.
  • Miscellaneous
    • Controls the capoeira dance, receiving a Lily of the valley, opening a glowing cracker, and receiving frisbees.

RuneMetrics Event Log[edit | edit source]

Item Drops[edit | edit source]

Loot System[edit | edit source]

Changes how you pick up items from the floor.

Options include:

  • Use loot inventory
    • The loot interface will open when picking up items from the floor, such as monster drops.
    • Other loot settings can not be changed if this is disabled.
  • Use area loot
    • The loot radius will increase from the tile an item is on to three tiles around the player.
  • Open loot interface from interaction menu
    • Picking up loot from the interaction menu will also open the loot interface, if there are multiple items in range.

Loot Claiming Priorities[edit | edit source]

You can choose to claim loot first based on monetary value.

Combat drops[edit | edit source]

Players can choose whether to receive Combat drops (Armour and weapons, Ammunition, Combat consumables, Runes, and Prayer items).

Skilling drops[edit | edit source]

Players can choose whether to receive Skilling drops (Construction materials, Crafting materials, Farming items, Herblore items, and Mining and Smithing items.

Loot Beams[edit | edit source]

Controls when loot beams are shown. You can set the threshold for when loot beams are shown. They can also be disabled entirely, and they can be turned off for specific clue scroll types.

You can also customize which loot beam is used (based on which ones you own).

Additionally, loot beams can be turned off in Daemonheim.

Clue Scrolls[edit | edit source]

Controls whether you receive certain clue scrolls (easy-master), as well as if they trigger a loot beam.

Miscellaneous[edit | edit source]

Legacy Modes[edit | edit source]

Allows changing interface and combat modes which primarily suppose players who have played for a long time.

Options include:

  • Legacy Combat Mode
    • Simplified combat, removing abilities and close to Old School combat. Only melee special attacks are available.
  • Legacy Interface Mode
    • Change the interface to a fixed layout that more closely resembles Old School RuneScape, and how the game looked before early 2011. This will disable interface layout customisation if active.
  • Legacy Interface Skin
    • Use the legacy colour scheme on the default interface system. This will not affect your ability to customise the interface.
  • Legacy Map Icons
    • Use the legacy icons on the minimap and worldmap. Map icons were updated in 2014.

Cutscenes[edit | edit source]

Options include:

  • Skip boat cutscenes
    • Cutscenes will not longer occur when travelling by boat.

Retro skillcapes[edit | edit source]

The settings in this interface allow you to switch between using old and new models when you equip the respective skillcape.

Doomsayer Warnings[edit | edit source]

Main article: Doomsayer

The settings in this category relate to locations in-game. When enabled you will receive a warning when travelling to one of these locations.

You must receive each warning multiple times before it can be turned off.

Update history[edit | edit source]

  • patch 22 July 2019 (Update):
    • Other players' ability hitsplats are correctly hidden when set to in hitsplat options.
  • patch 1 April 2019 (Update):
    • When the "Destroy empty containers when cooking" option is unticked, the pot will no longer be consumed when mixing a pot of flour with butter to create biscuit dough.
  • patch 17 June 2019 (Update):.
    • The hide cogs from augmented armour setting no longer also hides the spikes on spiked augmented masterwork armour.
  • ninja 3 June 2019 (Update):
    • Added a toggle for the colour overlay when skills are boosted or drained on the skills tab.
  • patch 25 March 2019 (Update):
    • There is a new camera mode - "Freedom", which allows for more extreme camera angles and zoom levels.
  • patch 18 March 2019 (Update):
    • We've added an option in the UI Customisation section of the General gameplay settings that will allow the user to toggle the display of the Summoning Globe between Summoning points and Familiar special points.
    • Fixed an issue where some tall and narrow windowed mode layouts could cause issues with the bank and the interface overlapping in legacy mode when the window was resized.
  • patch 4 February 2019 (Update):
    • Mining-specific game settings have now been moved from "game interaction" into their own section.
  • patch 21 January 2019 (Update):
    • Players now have the option to turn off Mining hitsplats for Critical Swings and Rockertunities.
      • Known issue: Hitsplats are currently causing players in Safe Mode Java to crash. The ability to turn hitsplats off now allows those players to mine without crashing.
    • There is a new user setting called "Automatically trigger regenerate" which activates when leaving combat.
      • This setting is disabled by default for existing users but will be enabled by default for any new users or any returning users that have lapsed for over 3 months.
  • patch 3 December 2018 (Update):
    • Increase the pinch-to-zoom distance on mobile, you can zoom out further than before using the Modern Camera mode within the general gameplay settings.
  • patch 12 February 2018 (Update):
    • The game settings interface now properly closes when switching between legacy and non-legacy interface mode.
  • ninja 7 August 2017 (Update):
    • The time for tooltips to appear when hovering over icons on the buff bar has been increased slightly to prevent blocking areas of the game screen.
  • ninja 29 February 2016 (Update):
    • Players now have a few minutes’ grace period when logging out where they won't be prompted for their bank pin upon logging back in, including when switching worlds. This functionality can be toggled off in the Miscellaneous settings interface in the Game Settings window.
    • Players can now toggle the retro cosmetic look of their skillcapes in the Miscellaneous interface in the Game Settings window.
    • Players can now enable an option in the Miscellaneous settings interface in the Game Settings window to automatically teleport urns to Ernie when they are filled. This option also enables auto-studying the Invention skill accumulators.
  • patch 18 January 2016 (Update):
    • Turning off clan/friend chat prefixes no longer changes the colour of the player’s name.
  • ninja 11 January 2016 (Update):
    • Options have been added to Miscellaneous settings menu that will require you to enter your RuneScape Bank PIN when entering high-risk area entry (such as the Wilderness or the Clan Wars red portal) or dropping high-value items. These are turned off by default.
    • A new section called Chat Settings has been added under Gameplay Settings to centralise the various chat options available as well as adding new ones:
      • Click-through chatboxes
      • Local timestamps
      • Split private chat
      • Player login/logout notifications
      • Ability to shorten or turn off friend/clan/guest chat names
      • Chat colour settings
      • Ability to toggle the shown chat windows
    • The 'Chat' tab in the Community menu has been renamed 'Social'.
  • patch 24 August 2015 (Update):
    • Doomsayer warnings can now be found under a Doomsayer Warnings dedicated tab in Gameplay Settings.
    • A new tab for Miscellaneous Settings has been added under Gameplay Settings. Players can now toggle the following:
      • Discarding empty bowls when cooking.
      • Discarding empty bowls when eating.
      • Discarding empty pie dishes when eating.
      • Discard empty vials when mixing potions.
      • Discard empty vials when decanting potions.
      • Discarding empty beer glasses when drinking.
  • ninja 9 March 2015 (Update):
    • It is now possible to disable drag-dropping from inventory/bank/worn interfaces. This can be toggled via Game Settings under Gameplay.
    • A message informing new players about their run energy depleting will no longer appear if they have guidance system hints toggled off.
