Fresh Start Worlds is a seasonal event that will run from 12:00 26 September 2022 to 9 January 2023. Any new content released in the main game during this time will be added to Fresh Start Worlds. It runs on a separate set of servers than the standard worlds, requiring a new account that hasn't played RuneScape before and a membership subscription. Bonds can be acquired on a pre-existing account (with less than 2.5 years of remaining membership) and converted for a 14 Days Membership Passcode, so that existing players can use bonds to get membership on a new Fresh Start Worlds account. Ironman Mode is not available in Fresh Start Worlds. Clans are available, but Clan Citadels are not. The Luma wolf pet is awarded for registering and playing for the first time. Fresh Start Worlds feature increased experience rates, in-game buffs, a separate Grand Exchange economy, and rewards that can be transferred to another account at the end of the event, including ironman mode accounts. Fresh Start Worlds characters cannot return to the Fresh Start Worlds event once they are transferred to the main game. The majority of rewards from Fresh Start Worlds will be available again in the future.
For the first eight weeks of the event, until 12:00 21 November 2022, players can compete for "worlds first" and "top 100s" achievements and hiscores. Microtransactions including Treasure Hunter and premium experience benefits, such as the premier artefact, will be disabled during this "competitive period". Additionally only one bond may be traded per week during this period. Highscores will continue to update after this point, during the "accomplishment phase", but rewards will be based on progress at the end of the competitive period. During the accomplishment phase, there will be no restrictions on Treasure Hunter or premium experience benefits. At the end of the event, accounts will be transferred to standard game worlds, retaining game progress including any stats and most items which have been earned through Fresh Start Worlds.
Weekly boosts[edit | edit source]
Experience[edit | edit source]
Experience rates will increase incrementally every week, up to the eighth week. These boosts start out at 1.5x experience in the first three weeks and increase at a steady rate to the final week of the competitive phase, up to a maximum of 2.5x experience. After the eighth week, experience rates will gradually reduce to those found in the regular game. There is a also a catch up boost for skills below level 70 that increases as the event proceeds and works alongside the other boost.
Other boosts[edit | edit source]
Bonuses including accuracy boosts, loyalty auras, double yield chance boosts, and 20% increased chance for double drops will be unlocked for all accounts over the course of the event. They will not be obtainable via Progress Points and will not carry over to the main game.

Rewards[edit | edit source]
There are several rewards available to Fresh Start Worlds players.
Progress Points[edit | edit source]
Progress Points are a currency that will be available in Fresh Start Worlds. They are made up of the sum of the player's total level x5, total quest points x25, and total RuneScore. The points can be spent in a reward shop, where players can unlock different rewards based on their progression track. Many rewards will be transferred to the main game at the end of Fresh Start Worlds, where it will then be possible to trade them once to other accounts.
Inverted skill capes & Inverted master skill capes[edit | edit source]
Upon reaching level 99 in a skill during the gamemode, players will be able to buy a skillcape where the base and trim colours have been swapped (for example, a yellow attack cape with red trim). Regular colours are only available upon returning to the maingame by leaving fresh start world mode. As usual, the first 99 will be an untrimmed cape (which is just in the colour of the normal trimmed cape's trim), and the second 99 will trim all the capes unless keepsaked. These skillcapes come in only two variants, hooded and hooded trimmed. Unhooded and retro variants are not available.
Reaching (virtual) level 120 in a skill during the gamemode will allow the player to buy an inverted master cape. These swap the base colour and the inner-trim colour; the particle colour is usually (but not always) swapped too (for example, the inverted Dungeoneering master cape swaps the orange-brown with white, and the particles remain black). Similar to level 99 skillcapes, regular colours are only available upon returning to the maingame by leaving fresh start world mode.
Inverted skillcapes and master skillcapes retain all the combat stats and perks of the regular capes.
The quest point cape is also available in an alternative colour. Due to the short nature of the mode however, the master quest cape is not obtainable, so there is no inverted master quest cape.
Halo skilling pets[edit | edit source]
Any Skilling pets obtained during the mode will additionally unlock a skin for them where they are wearing a golden halo.
Tradeable tokens[edit | edit source]
Upon first time purchases of inverted skillcapes, inverted master skillcapes, inverted quest cape, or claiming skilling pets, players will receive tradeable tokens. These tokens can be consumed to unlock the capes or pet appearance for another player or for oneself. To use the appearance, the player still needs to have the cape or pet unlocked. The tokens can be traded only once, and can only be traded directly (i.e. they do not appear on the Grand Exchange). Ironman players can also receive these tokens.
Consuming a skillcape token will allow player to purchase the inverted versions of skillcapes from their respective sellers. For example, if a player uses an inverted slayer skillcape token, they can then purchase the inverted version from Kuradal. Furthermore, trimmed and untrimmed is determined by how many level 99 the player possess. e.g. Player may redeem an inverted skillcape token, and then purchase an untrimmed inverted cape if they only possess a singular level 99 skill.
The capes and pets are not removed from the Fresh Start World account.
Challenger halo[edit | edit source]
If the player achieves certain "world-first" broadcasts or reaches rank 100 or better overall or in any skill on the hiscores during the game mode, they unlock the challenger halo. This halo can be traded and is on the Grand Exchange.
The broadcasts eligible for the halo are reset for Fresh Start Worlds. These broadcasts include levels 99 and 120 for each skill, First to Maxcape and receiving the quest point cape.
Halo of returning[edit | edit source]
Once the player achieves any eight milestones, they unlock the untradeable halo of returning. Upon transfer to the main game, the halo becomes tradeable and can be bought or sold on the Grand Exchange.
The milestones are:
List of world servers[edit | edit source]
These servers may only be accessed by Fresh Start World accounts with an active membership. The servers will close on 9 January 2023 and all Fresh Start accounts will switch over to the main servers. Players can also transfer to the main game early by speaking to Gale Freshman.
List of firsts[edit | edit source]
Players who were the first to achieve level 99 or 120 milestones on Fresh Start Worlds were announced via broadcasts across all worlds:

Controversies[edit | edit source]
Fresh Start Worlds had been criticised by a number of existing players since the announcement of the mode. Some players felt that the mechanics of the mode, such as the fact that you need to create a new account to experience it, and the requirement of a membership subscription for the account, were poorly implemented. Due to the criticism, Jagex decided to postpone the launch of the mode by three weeks and also make it possible to use bonds from the main game on new Fresh Start World accounts. Alongside this, the suggested experience buff was reduced from x4 at its height to x2.5. The ability to have a higher drop rates of skilling pets was also removed.
Launch rollback[edit | edit source]
Immediately following the release of the mode on 26 September, some players logging in to the game client for the first time without having set a character display name on the RuneScape website were put into the tutorial in standard worlds instead of receiving a UI prompt to select between Fresh Start Worlds and the standard worlds, with no way to switch to Fresh Start Worlds once the tutorial had been started. Jagex took the RuneScape servers offline entirely at 13:09 UTC, and started the process of rolling back player accounts to 12:00 UTC.
