Scroll of Dexterity[edit | edit source]
The Scroll of dexterity is a non-members upgrade, purchasable from the Dungeoneering Rewards Shop for 20,000 Dungeoneering tokens. It requires 60 Crafting and 60 Dungeoneering. It provides a chance to save a hide when crafting an item that requires three or more hides. This can significantly reduce the cost per hour of high-level training.

General notes[edit | edit source]
- All jewellery smelting should be done at the
- Completing Family Crest, a members-only quest, allows storage of gold bars in the metal bank, which significantly speeds up jewellery smelting, and this benefit is kept on f2p. However, as it still requires membership to complete the times below would not take it into consideration.
Level 1-22 - Spinning flax[edit | edit source]
Spin flax into bowstring for 15 xp each. This can be done on a spinning wheel. The best place to do this is in Lumbridge Castle, on the 1st floor[UK]2nd floor[US], very close to the bank above. Spinning flax is simple, and requires low investment and attention. It consistently turns a moderate profit, and is a decent fallback option when higher-level options aren't working out. Can be done for free in Burthorpe. Flax is near the Farming trainer using the spinning wheel near the loom in the crafting area.

Gem rocks[edit | edit source]
Common gem rock[edit | edit source]
Common gem rocks randomly yield uncut opal (can be cut at 1 Crafting), uncut lapis lazuli (1), uncut jade (13), and uncut red topaz (16). No Mining level is required but a higher level and a better pickaxe speeds up mining. Cut opals, jade and red topaz are worth more on the Grand Exchange, but you will fail resulting in the useless crushed gem too often to turn a profit buying uncut gems. Always cut lapis lazuli first, as they cannot be crushed, and the xp gained from them may give you a higher level thus lowering the crush chance on other gems. While lapis lazuli are untradeable, keep them as they can later be made into lapis lazuli rings for 3,279 coins profit per ring at 11 Crafting.
Uncommon gem rock[edit | edit source]
Uncommon gem rocks randomly yield uncut sapphire (can be cut at 20 Crafting), uncut emerald (27), and uncut ruby (34). 20 Mining required (27 Mining unlocks emeralds, 35 for rubies); a higher level and a better pickaxe speeds up mining. These gems cannot be crushed.
A test at 36 Mining finds you can gain about 12000 Crafting xp per hour if you cut and drop sapphires (due to their low value) and bank the rest. You also gain about 18000 Mining xp, 130 uncut emeralds and 90 uncut rubies per hour.
A gem bag (costs 2000 Dungeoneering tokens, which can take a long time to obtain for beginners) can be used to hold 100 uncut gems total, from sapphire to diamond (although it requires 25 Crafting along with 25 Dungeoneering to obtain, so it takes only 2 more levels to cut emeralds).
A test at 46 Mining finds you can gain about 26000 Crafting xp per hour if you cut and drop sapphires and emeralds, and banking rubies. You also gain about 24000 Mining xp and 140 uncut rubies per hour. If you can and wish to cut and bank all 3 types of gems, it results in about 28400 Crafting xp, as well as 18200 Mining xp, 250 sapphires, 128 emeralds, and 85 rubies per hour. Experience would be even faster if you cut and drop all gems, but it would be more click-intensive.
Precious gem rock[edit | edit source]
Precious gem rocks are similar, but yield uncut diamond (43 Crafting) instead of sapphire. 43 Mining required to mine diamonds from them, and as Al Kharid resource dungeon is the only f2p mine with these rocks, 75 Dungeoneering is also required to get to them. While higher levelled, they are slower Crafting xp because they are mined much more slowly. However, they give slightly faster Mining xp and requires less walking.
If using a gem bag and banking with Archaeology journal, tests at 75 Mining and with a rune pickaxe +3 with moderate attention shows the following results. As the gem bag only holds uncut gems, this assumes you mine and bank all uncut gems, then cutting them in one go, and averages it per hour. Gem types are random and calculated based on currently known drop rates.
|Trip time (mine & cut)||8.5 minutes||18.5 minutes|
This can change significantly if you choose to cut and drop or fletch certain gems, or keep diamonds to sell, depending on market or your preferences.
Crafting Guild[edit | edit source]
The Crafting Guild can be entered with 40 Crafting. It contains gold rocks, silver rocks, clay rocks, a water source, several potter's wheels for making unfired clay items, a pottery oven for firing them, a spinning wheel for spinning wool into balls of wool, and a Tanner who tans cowhides for a price. Additionally, a cow field is located immediately west of the Crafting Guild, and a flock of sheep can be found north of the Crafting Guild.
Players have everything they need here to make urns (clay rocks, a water source, a potter's wheel, and a pottery oven). Making Strong smelting urn (nr) (49 Crafting required) and banking them at the nearby Clan Camp makes very little money, but is by far the most xp in making urns. There is a bank deposit box in the guild itself, but it is only available to members upon the completion of the Falador hard achievements.
This amounts to 1512 experience per inventory, or about 25000 xp per hour. Slightly slower Crafting xp per hour and less profitable compared to mining gems from uncommon gem rocks and cutting them, although clay rocks are easier to mine especially at lower Mining and/or stamina levels.
Dungeoneering training[edit | edit source]
Training within Daemonheim is an alternative method of training Crafting. This method costs nothing outside Daemonheim, but its effectiveness depends on the player's ability to gather coins in Daemonheim.
A semi-experienced player (≥30 Dungeoneering) can expect to go from 1 to 31 Crafting raiding less than five small dungeons using the method below. This especially benefits any players who have neglected Crafting (but not many other skills, which Dungeoneering depends on).
Generally, players should craft protoleather bodies, available at 9 Crafting, because ranged hides don't require time on a spinning wheel. Although experience per hide increases according to the level requirement of armour crafted, a higher tier hide will yield significantly less experience per coin.
The idea is to buy protomastyx hide and thread and craft the hides into protoleather bodies (consuming 5 hides and 1 thread per body). This method will yield 99.5 experience for 1,690 coins spent in dungeon, counting the five hides (2,100 coins) and one thread (10 coins) used minus refund (420 coins) by selling the body. 8,500 coins are needed to craft 10 protoleather bodies, at least 20 empty inventory space is recommended to allocate for 4 bodies per inventory, and if desired, players can free spaces to make 25 slots for crafting 5 bodies.
The fastest way to quickly earn Crafting experience without gaining from other skills, is to start a dungeon at the highest floor and largest size possible, kill a small number of monsters near the Smuggler and take piles of coins (and sell other loots including food) from them, which approximately equals to 1/3 of total coins possibly gained throughout the whole floor. Use up the pile of coins to train Crafting and quit the floor quickly; this will yield much faster experience compared to training after completing the whole floor.
To prolong this method on a tight budget, if you have level 55 Magic and level 44 Runecrafting, you can craft nature and fire runes and then cast High Level Alchemy on the protoleather bodies. This method consumes more time but yields extra Magic experience. High Level Alchemy gives 840 coins instead of 420 per body, but minus 50 coins per essence (if bought) unless runes are looted or crafted from found essences. Using this method will allow you to craft 1 extra body (1320-1386 coins compared to 1690 per 5 bodies) for every 5-6 bodies alchemised. A salve orb (unlocked at 8 Crafting) can be made from one salve cloth and one thread (for a one-time investment of 430 coins). This is a cheap alternative to staff or wand, and all three kinds of item provide infinite supply of fire runes for Alchemy spells.
