Yes. Of course it's embarrassing having a WoW advert covering 3/4 of the screen. But I know way too much CSS. I'm not sure how the ads are displayed in the HTML. if they are all pulled from a single JavaScript file with controls which ones are displayed I can't do this. But if every unique add has a different source URL there is a way. I don't think Sannse will murder us over this (especially cause I'm new here and I still don't know all the ToU rules). I'm gonna go contact her about this

PS: ToU has been relaxed. Time to go and start customizing things. :-D

Not intentionally block, remove, or otherwise obstruct the proper functioning and view of advertisements, and/or user interface and functionality by other users, including but not limited to changing or adding javascript or CSS changes to the Service that would prevent the proper display or function of advertisements and/or user interface and functionality.

We can't do that. ʞooɔ 03:27, December 11, 2010 (UTC)

I wonder if Sannse would grant us an exception. This woul only affect about 1 in 50 pageloads. Let's wait and see her inputNoobs taste good And I'll eat you for dinner 03:31, December 11, 2010 (UTC)

If anything because we're a bigger wiki she'd be more likely to not allow us to hide ads since they bring in revenue for them. svco4bY.png3Gf5N2F.png 03:35, December 11, 2010 (UTC)
1 in 50 page loads? Nearly 100% of the time I come here, I see WOW all over the screen. If anything, it would affect 49/50 page loads. kitty.pngPsycho Robot talkSilver bar.png 05:41, December 11, 2010 (UTC)
There is a way to hide ads, do you know, robot? JOEYTJE50TALKpull my finger 08:04, December 11, 2010 (UTC)
He obviously does, since the default is to hide ads. Also, do you know that there isn't such an option to anonymus users? bad_fetustalk 08:09, December 11, 2010 (UTC)
Called AdBlock, anyone who uses a decent browser has access to it (Not IE obviously) 222 talk 08:31, December 11, 2010 (UTC)
That's not an option on the website though, that's an option on your browser. bad_fetustalk 08:34, December 11, 2010 (UTC)
I enabled ads and disabled adblock while on wikia so I could see things how an anonymous user saw them. Anonymous users make up a bulk of our traffic, so their impression of us is critical which is why I did so. Though this isn't really relevant to the topic at hand. kitty.pngPsycho Robot talkSilver bar.png 08:37, December 11, 2010 (UTC)
Only anons in the US see that ad, AFAIK. Not quite sure though. Mark<helper /> (talk) 12:22, December 11, 2010 (UTC)
I've never seen it, and I live in Canada. Even still, I bet that most of our viewers are from the states. ajr 14:38, December 15, 2010 (UTC)
I thought this would be a good place to post this. stupidad.png

It's obstructing the search box, for goodness' sake. D= -- Cycloneblaze (user - talk - contribs) 12:40, December 17, 2010 (UTC)

You should send a bug report to wikia containing as much info you can give about that, as there's no way they actually intended for that to happen. kitty.pngPsycho Robot talkSilver bar.png 19:06, December 17, 2010 (UTC)
I live in the UK and I have seen adverts for WoW on Runescape wiki so it isn't just US users who get them 14:45, December 19, 2010 (UTC)
(inserted) What you talk about is regular adverts, not things like this and this. Those things only happen inthe US. JOEYTJE50TALKpull my finger 16:56, December 19, 2010 (UTC)
Me too but the worst adverts for me are the "interactive ones". An example is the cleaning one where you move your mouse over a dirty saucepan to "clean" it using some cleaning fluid. These use a lot of memory and automatically play video and sound causing massive lag and you cant even click on a different page on the wiki until its finished playing and got to the "interactive" part as the browser just hangs. This has been happening for months. Its outrageous. --Gold ore.png Mercifull UK serv.svg (Talk) 16:53, December 19, 2010 (UTC)
Actually, I have seen the second of those adverts (this.) in the UK so stop please stop trying to tell me it is a localised problem, it effects everyone users from anywhere in the world included, now we have that sorted maybe we can move on to solving the problem and preventing anyone getting these. Edit:( That probably sounded a bit more violent than I meant it to, sorry ) .

I just thought this was too funny not to post. It serves as evidence as well as a laugh! Oh Warcraft... Sayian Spartan 01:49, December 23, 2010 (UTC)

Why do you guys even care? It's an advertisement. Wikia needs to have some advertisements, otherwise we'd have to pay for this wiki. If the WOW ads are indeed obstructing the search box, send a bug report, but other than that, I see no problem. White partyhat old.png C Teng talk 02:24, December 23, 2010 (UTC)

You obviously haven't been paying attention, this is about more than "some advertisements". 222 talk 02:28, December 23, 2010 (UTC)

Closed We cannot stop ads. If they interfere with the search, tell central.--Degenret01 02:53, December 23, 2010 (UTC)
