As some of you may remember, User:Chicken7 began working on a series of "Wikicapes" that users could give to one another. They are images of skillcape-like objects with varying wiki related themes, implying that whoever they are granted to has shown some mastery over the associated topic. Similar to the Barnstars found on Wikipedia, there are no rules surrounding how these capes would be distributed. One could give a cape to any user for any reason, though the reason should follow the cape's associated theme. Chicken planned to propose to make these capes an official part of the community once he finished them all, though he has gone inactive within that time. Because he does not intend to make more in the near future, he granted me permission to propose this on his behalf.

To cut to the actual proposal, all that is really required here is consensus to make the capes "official". This is inclusive of uploading all the Wikicape images to the wiki and creating a page in the Project namespace to keep them all. Additionally, we need some minor regulation to determine which new Wikicapes we will allow to be uploaded. The first reason for this is that Wikicapes may be uploaded that are out of cannon with other capes, visually speaking. The other problem is that some may not be the best topics to have capes for. As an example, I once suggested Chicken create a cape that can be given to "good" administrators, though it's obvious why that would not work in the end. I suggest we require FIMG-style consensus for new capes, as there is no other method to do this that does not require an administrator make the final call.

Again, no problems should arise from the creation of the capes. There will intentionally be no regulation surrounding when they can and cannot be given to users, so the problems we had with the Achievements extension don't apply here.

GREAT Support (I am going to kill you!) A few days ago I was talking to Stelercus about some RuneScape Wiki styled barnstars, he showed me the wikicapes made by Chicken7, and then, these are great, huge, but great, and then they're huge, therefore they're still great due to being great but still huge!! And so, I think these should be put to work, (because seriously, I would feel a bit down if after all these edits with no trophies!). SO great love to <insert name here>! (randomness ftw) Snowy Christmas!1337rng3r|Talk T-Hawk wishes you a wonderful snowy Christmas! 18:59, October 1, 2010 (UTC)

I agree that they are huge and great and huge. bad_fetustalk 19:02, October 1, 2010 (UTC)

It was Chicken's project to support, but due to his inactivity, he delegated that to me. Magic-icon.pngStelercusIlluminated Book of Balance.png 01:19, October 2, 2010 (UTC)

Support - =D i had given up hope after Chicken left. Glad to see we are going through with it. - [Pharos] 03:25, October 2, 2010 (UTC)

Wait wait wait They can not be both official, and at the same time anyone can give one to anyone else anytime they like. That doesn't work. They should not be "official", they should be "unofficial yet recognized symbols of dedication". If you want them to be official we would need a YG thread to award one to anyone at anytime.-- Degen says Unban TLUL  03:30, October 2, 2010 (UTC)

A yg, isn't that a bit over the top, maybe something similar to RS:FI would work though. Hunter cape (t).png Sentra246Blue hallowe'en mask.png 03:36, October 2, 2010 (UTC)
Unofficial is the best answer, anything else complicates it past the point it was intended when first proposed.-- Degen says Unban TLUL  03:38, October 2, 2010 (UTC)
We put a lot of effort into equality with AEAE, degen's sarcastic sigs and constant talk of don't count edits and stuff like that. Wikicapes should stay unofficial IMO incase newer users start seeing them as status symbols, separating classes of users. Also, CBF going through official processes to grant them >_< - [Pharos] 04:13, October 2, 2010 (UTC)
It was my understanding that anyone could give one to anyone, but in order to upload a new one, you had to go through a RS:FIMG-esque nomination process. If indeed the proposal is a RS:FIMG-esque nomination process to award a cape to someone, I would oppose. kitty.pngPsycho Robot talkSilver bar.png 04:34, October 2, 2010 (UTC)
When I say "official", I simply mean that their existence is supported by the community, but not how they are used. Without that seal of approval, they cannot be uploaded to the wiki or have their own project page. Magic-icon.pngStelercusIlluminated Book of Balance.png 15:50, October 2, 2010 (UTC)
Okay, good deal then. I just like clarity so things do not get twisted later. We get enough of that crap here.-- Degen says Unban TLUL  07:32, October 4, 2010 (UTC)

Question - Exactly what context will wikicapes be placed in? Are they intended more as a congratulatory message, or are they just a fun joke? The context will be quite important in deciding what wikicapes are approved. For example, look at the two wikicapes added by 3i+1 here. I'm certain they will not get approved if wikicapes were intended to be serious in any way (especially not the failcape with the helm on it -.-), but they probably would be allowed in the joke sense. --LiquidTalk 15:54, October 2, 2010 (UTC)

You don't like them? :( --Iiii I I I 15:59, October 2, 2010 (UTC)
Can't we just have both serious and joke wikicapes? bad_fetustalk 17:34, October 2, 2010 (UTC)
Well, they are more like barnstars which are used on wikipedia (except these are RuneScape WIkia styled), plus...we would be from the first wikis to have THAT! Makes the wiki more used and contributed to, and...more fun! (Spam Cape with the Spam Boy on the Spam cape=spamboy cape therefore, it hand hurts, because it hurts, therefore it shall hurt in a hurting hurt way!). Snowy Christmas!1337rng3r|Talk T-Hawk wishes you a wonderful snowy Christmas! 17:39, October 2, 2010 (UTC)
On Wikipedia, whenever Barnstars are given out, the person awarding it places it on the recipient's talk for whatever reason, then the recipient can place it on their uesrpage. The same process will likely apply here. I plan on making a template for this, should the proposal pass. Magic-icon.pngStelercusIlluminated Book of Balance.png 19:06, October 2, 2010 (UTC)

Support - Per Chicken's point. Ruud (talk)(Suggest me naems) 12:56, October 3, 2010 (UTC)

Question - Now, which of these will be the first wikicapes if this passes? Will all the existing wikicapes automatically be used, or will they have to pass some discussion first, since that seems to be what we will do to the newer ones if this passes. Also, what will happen to the capes that 3i+1 added that got removed by Chicken? Will they automatically be wikicapes if others automatically be ones? bad_fetustalk 15:28, October 3, 2010 (UTC)

See also concept design for a smaller template one can add to their userpage in bulk. Iiii's design is better than any idea I had as far as the delivery of the cape, but is space inefficient when it comes to display on the recipient's userpage.
