Forum:Wiki vs CC Blocks
As was proven today by User:Composite 4 entering the chat and trolling User:Panjy16 (for no apparent reason), keeping the door to the chat open for UTP violators creates a hole in the block. As far back as I can remember (referring to December, 2008), we have actively enforced that any sort of block, be it from the chat or the wiki, cannot instantly result in a block from the other; the two have to be determined separately (and often via consensus). During discussions requesting a user be blocked from one or the other because of UTP violations, there have always been a few users requesting the offender is given an identical block on the other, though their suggestions were quickly shot down as they were told that "blocks don't work that way." The question remained, "Why do we need to go through extra trouble or wait for enough screen shots to ask Teng to block him?" This question has gone unanswered.
If a user who is even remotely active on the wiki and the chat is given a block on one or the other because of UTP violations, I propose that the block must apply to both without need for extra discussion (be it a request on Teng's talk or another thread). UTP violations, as opposed to all other blocks, deal directly with how users interact with other members of the community. If it has been proven that they have disturbed members of the community to the point of being given a block, it's only logical to completely remove their communication with the community while that block is in effect (aside from the privilege to appeal the block on their talk page, which would be removed if they abuse it). Otherwise, they will be able to continue to do whatever it was that resulted in a block, defeating its original purpose.
Keep in mind this means that not only will UTP violations on the wiki apply to the chat, but UTP violations on the chat will apply to the wiki. Even then, this only applies if the UTP violator in question uses both.

Support The hole in our policy has allowed people to RS:GTS by being a total dick in one area and still come into the other. An individual who has demonstrated such a serious lack of respect for others should not be allowed to do this.-- 00:55, September 14, 2010 (UTC)
Comment How about something that will be a little less work for teng - if someone is blocked on the cc, it is only applied to the wiki as well if they use the wiki to continue arguments or insults, and vice versa, without any warnings or discussion.01:02, September 14, 2010 (UTC)
- I don't see how that will lighten the already incredibly light load. The people who meet the criteria for this kind of block only appear every few months. 01:05, September 14, 2010 (UTC)
Support - If someone violates UTP and gets blocked on one area of the community, they could just hop over to the other area and continue being a jerk.01:08, September 14, 2010 (UTC)
Strong support - Per Stelercus and Degen. The point of keeping penalties separate on the wiki and the CC was because the two often had separate sets of rules, and separate circumstances. For example, you're not going to block someone from the CC for vandalizing the wiki. You can't vandalize the CC. However, the two fields to intersect in the area of user treatment. This should close the loophole that has resulted in unneeded wiki drama and extraneous discussion. --LiquidTalk 01:09, September 14, 2010 (UTC)
Support - Per all, especially Berserk, in his excellent point that if someone is willing to troll in one area of the community, they're bound to be bold enough to cart their sad selves over to the other and troll there.--Cheers,01:51, September 14, 2010 (UTC)
For simplicity We should not bother with the ones whom we do not know to frequent both areas. Most trolls keep their actions to just one area, so only take this step when we need to.--04:36, September 14, 2010 (UTC)
- Don't worry, that's spelled out in the proposal. 18:39, September 16, 2010 (UTC)
Support - If they are breaking UTP in one section of the wiki the should be blocked from all parts of the wiki, not just the part where they offended.08:49, September 14, 2010 (UTC)

Support - Per Degen. I'm a regular user and I approve this message.
Support - If they can't follow our rules at the wiki, why would they do so in the cc.03:22, September 16, 2010 (UTC)
