I was thinking, for some cases, it would probably be useful to see how often users talk, join, quit, etc. This could be collected in a Chat stats page, which would for example list the amount of joins, quits, and amount of lines said for each user, and the average of lines in the past week and past month. It could also list the general activity in the chat, and the average length of messages for users specific and channel-wide. This could be added to the chat bot, and could be stored on RuneScape:Chat/Logs/Stats. I think it could be very useful to be able to see such things, especially in Chat Mod requests, to see the activity of users (of course that doesn't give an indication of the user's behaviour and involvement with requesting bans etc), and it would probably be quite interesting too.

If we would get this bot, I suggest we use the following format. If you want, you can suggest a different format too (just add a "suggestions" section in this proposal or something).

User Total linecount lines today lines past 7 days lines past 30 days joins/quits total joins/quits today joins/quits past 7 days joins/quits past 30 days Userlinks
Overall 9001 42 1337 5678 300 50 125 300
Example 50 5 23 42 15 4 8 12 talk - contribs - rights/block log - user logs

Each line would use a template, and would use that format. The "lines today" column will be the lines since 0:00h UTC, so not the past 24 hours. Note that the bot would need to store data in the source code of the page (in comments, <!--comment-->) to be able to know what day the lines were said. For example, it would have a comment with <!--[5,7,6,5,6,5,8]--> to store the amount of lines for the last 7 days. For each user, this would be a total of 30 days stored after the template. That will make it able to calculate the amount of lines the last x days. There is one big flaw though, like with the logs, that when the bot isn't in the chat, it wouldn't collect data, which could give an inaccurate view on the stats.

If anyone has suggestions, feel free to post them.

Comment - What do you mean by join/quit? Enter and leave the chat? Also, wouldn't it perhaps be handy to include IRC activity? User_talk:Fswe1 Fswe1 Brassica Prime symbol.png 16:05, March 20, 2012 (UTC)

Yeah enter/leave. About IRC activity: the RSChatBot isn't there, so that wouldn't be possible, and there is already this which works for IRC (but not for S:C). JOEYTJE50TALKpull my finger 16:25, March 20, 2012 (UTC)

Comment - I don't see how this would be useful at all bad_fetustalk 16:25, March 20, 2012 (UTC)

Don't get me wrong though, I don't mind having it. I just don't see why it would be useful like you said in the proposal. bad_fetustalk 21:59, March 20, 2012 (UTC)

Comment - Is it me or does this give the overall impression that we're being spied upon? :o --LiquidTalk 16:37, March 20, 2012 (UTC)

Odd how the same thing is done in IRC. svco4bY.png3Gf5N2F.png 20:53, March 20, 2012 (UTC)
Why would you care if you are being spied upon in the fiery wasteland we call [[Special:Chat]]? Hair 00:40, March 21, 2012 (UTC)
The IRC's statistics are for humor; I believe these are intended to be more serious. --LiquidTalk 02:57, March 21, 2012 (UTC)
When it came to Forum:Requesting manager status on IRC, Aeri used them very seriously. svco4bY.png3Gf5N2F.png 03:34, March 21, 2012 (UTC)
I was not around for that, and that is the only serious use that I've seen cited. It's mostly used for jest nowadays. The proposed statistics for Chat lack the interesting/funny aspects of the IRC statistics, such as a random quote from each person, how many times users were attacked, who the crazy op is, who the most kicked person is, et cetera. (Though the last two obviously won't work for Chat because the kicking mechanism in Chat sucks.) --LiquidTalk 18:35, March 21, 2012 (UTC)
you imply that you arent already being spied on..... big brother (talk) 19:02, March 21, 2012 (UTC)

Comment - It just seems like some useless stats really. Sure, we can oppose a RfCM due to inactivity and have bans for join/quit spam, but do we really need these things to be documented? I think we'd know between us if someone was making false claims - it's not like there's no one there on a regular basis - so is there a real need for this? cqm talk 00:00, March 21, 2012 (UTC)

Support - Sounds very cool! I'd perfer it say "lines entered" or "wordcount" (but still being lines) since that looks better in my eyes. But overall, its very interesting. Hair 00:40, March 21, 2012 (UTC)

Neutral/Weak Oppose - Let the community discuss if the user is active and trustworthy and not a bot that isn't 100% in chat. These statistics aren't really helpful, either. Who cares how many times someone has joined chat or not. And even if these help for choosing Chat Mods, the statistics won't really helpful for a while because people have been in chat before.

Although I really don't mind if it's implemented--HaidroH rune.pngEagle feather 3.pngCandle (blood red).png 1XqyDNM.png Crystal triskelion fragment 3.pngHazelmere's signet ring.png 06:52, March 21, 2012 (UTC)

Weak Oppose - Not causing a great deal of harm but it's unnecessary extra clutter in my opinion. We could easily add something like this but doesn't mean we should. --Henneyj 18:07, March 21, 2012 (UTC)

Oppose - I don't really see how this could be useful. Also, although this is unlikely to happen, people may spam just to get to the top of the "leaderboard" that this may create What I've done Ciphrius Kane Talk 14:33, March 23, 2012 (UTC)

Oppose - Don't think it will be useful, and it might just encourage spam like Ciph stated. Smithing (talk | contribs) 05:30, March 25, 2012 (UTC)

Withdraw - If so few people like the idea, I'd rather spend my time on something more useful, so I withdraw. JOEYTJE50TALKpull my finger 16:30, March 25, 2012 (UTC) {{Closure|Nominator has withdrawn. {{Signatures/Hofmic}} 16:54, March 25, 2012 (UTC)}}
