The time has come again for another Wikifest discussion. As I expected to happen, the only person who spoke to me early about running the next fest was Chicken. I am putting Chicken in charge of this fest in a way, because we have worked on something that has not been done before. This Autumn, we would like to create two Wikifests. One for the Asians/Aussies and another for the Americans (continents)/Europeans.

I am also going to work with User:Cook Me Plox to take my place after this fest if he is still interested by the end of it.

If anyone is interested in kicking me out, say so now and I will be if there is consensus (though this would mean I was replaced by Cook, unless there is consensus for somebody else).

I am not putting an event list up yet as we are looking for ideas. In my opinion, we should not mess with a successful schedule, but my opinion is not what matters here. It has been requested that we have more player-made events. This is a really tall order as I have been trying to get away from player-made events. They are more difficult to run and generally less fun to do. The most successful part of all the wikifests I have been to has been the minigames as they are easier to hold together. With that said, if you have an idea for a player-made event, keep in mind it must be simple to run yet entertaining enough to make it worth doing. Ideas that do not meet this standard will not be included.

General Discussion

Request - Can we make sure this doesn't collide with the fansite tournament, date/time-wise?   Swizz Talk   Events!   09:37, August 17, 2010 (UTC)

What are all the dates for the tournaments? If at all possible, one of them could be moved to a Friday so we can continue to have the fest on a Saturday. Magic-icon.pngStelercusIlluminated Book of Balance.png 14:49, August 21, 2010 (UTC)
They're listed here. --LiquidTalk 15:24, August 21, 2010 (UTC)
Unless anyone opposes, I would say September 18th is the only available date in September time-frame. Magic-icon.pngStelercusIlluminated Book of Balance.png 17:52, August 21, 2010 (UTC)
We cannot do it on September 18. Autumn is from September 21 to December 21. If we do it on September 18, then it's not really an Autumn wikifest. --LiquidTalk 17:54, August 21, 2010 (UTC)
>.< I think we can let this tiny inaccuracy slide this time... The 18th sounds fine - [Pharos] 18:13, August 21, 2010 (UTC)
So you suggest we go from holding the winter wikifest in spring to holding the autumn wikifest in summer? That's quite a large change... at least three months worth. --LiquidTalk 18:14, August 21, 2010 (UTC)
People tend to see June, July, and August as Summer; September, October, and November as Autumn; December, January, and February as winter; and March, April, and May as Spring, even though that's not in perfect alignment with the start and end of the seasons. Magic-icon.pngStelercusIlluminated Book of Balance.png 20:17, August 21, 2010 (UTC)

erm, meow - okay so two of these in a sort of split up the globe way (which works since it's already split between night and day right, thanks Ra), specifically "Asians/Aussies and another for the Americans (continents)/Europeans", wait, what? Are we missing some continents here? I'm thinking maybe people in Africa and Antarctica might play RS too, i'm just sayin' ... ~kytti khat 19:14, August 29, 2010 (UTC)

I have never heard of a RS player from Antarctica. As for Africa, Western Africa is along the same longitude/time zone as Western Europe, so they attend the Western wikifest. Eastern Africa gets its choice, as both offer reasonable times. --LiquidTalk 19:30, August 29, 2010 (UTC)
Yeah well I hadn't ever seen someone so smart and mature called "Yoshirocks4895737" in-game. You can't expect these things.   Swizz Talk   Events!   09:08, August 31, 2010 (UTC)

Events suggestions

Flames of Wiki This is a 2 part minievent, like cabbagebombing the GE. Instead, each person should obtain a number of Blue firelighters and White firelighters and we set the GE ablaze in our base colors. While it is burning, launch a mass Origami assault, again in blue and plain white, upon the GE. For this part wikians should stand at about where the archway is and face the GE so all the balloons float that way. This will work best with at least 8 people and the more the merrier. And of course spam up the chat window window with "Wiki rules!!!!" and "Join the RS Wiki, we own".--Degenret01 14:22, August 7, 2010 (UTC)

Unfortunately, the wikifest has always been an f2p event. I am fine with the idea of splitting off at the end for a single event, and this could be done then. Of course, I have no idea how difficult it is to obtain all the needed items. I understand they are treasure trail rewards, and we can't expect everyone who comes to the event to know the activity requires this. Magic-icon.pngStelercusIlluminated Book of Balance.png 17:39, August 7, 2010 (UTC)
I'll support if people following saying "pls add me zezima" again.   Swizz Talk   Events!   18:57, August 7, 2010 (UTC)
That was pretty damn stupid. Zezima is a regular player like you and me and TBH I don't give a **** if he was rank 1 for years. Also, people might think that the RS wiki is "full of spammers and noobs". I mean, would you join a clan/website that's being spam-advertised in your face? *Cough*price manipulating clans*Cough* FredeTalk 20:59, August 7, 2010 (UTC)

Im in support of worshipping Swizz/Zezima again, it was my day's highlight last time- =P - [Pharos] 05:29, August 8, 2010 (UTC)

Bucket Drop We get as many generous people as we can to get as many buckets as they want, and put them into the praty room drop.   Swizz Talk   Events!   13:44, August 8, 2010 (UTC)

The Party Room only works on a select few servers now, and we considered last time doing this event on a clan wars server. Magic-icon.pngStelercusIlluminated Book of Balance.png 13:46, August 8, 2010 (UTC)

Old events - I support keeping the hide and seek, and costume contest events from the last fest. - [Pharos] 14:13, August 8, 2010 (UTC)

I also agree. But we've been using the same 'fest format for over a year now and a few events need to change/be replaced. Steler has done a great job working on the costume contest so I agree we should stick with that, and last 'fests Hide n Seek event went awesomely so we should definitely stick with that but allowing the hider to hide throughout Gielnor (except the Wild).   Swizz Talk   Events!   14:36, August 9, 2010 (UTC)
Pfft. More like 3 years. Chicken7 >talk 06:18, August 10, 2010 (UTC)

Hunt n Seek In this event a few players are selected to hide any where in the FFA (Safe) portal at Clan Wars. We give them a minute or so to hide, and release the wikians to hunt them down and kill them. This is a variation of Hide n Seek, but I don't think this should replace it. Imma think of more events soon Swizezima Talk

Hmmm maybe we should let someone else be Zezima this time? - [Pharos] 07:33, August 10, 2010 (UTC)

Merge With Family Photo - How about during the meet 'n' greet, we ask everyone to stand in lines and say their names when their told. Caleb also had this idea so we could put both East and West's photo's in this one image.   Swizz Talk   Events!   11:56, August 18, 2010 (UTC)

How could you ever say no? UBER he said! UBER!*Pssst* Swizz, brothel time? *Pssst* It might be hard to get everyone in the shots though... - [Pharos] 12:22, August 18, 2010 (UTC)
Later baby. And I'll use the orb of ownage.   Swizz Talk   Events!   12:32, August 18, 2010 (UTC)

Replace houseparty - Could we organise this so that the Clan wars end at about 8:30-9:00 BST (What ever the UK timezone is) so that the members can hop to world 28 and take part in the Fansite Tournament against either Tip.It or RHQ on the 4th or 11th depending on who we play. This means that we'd get a good turnout for the event, and end on a high note. Just a suggestion.   Swizz Talk   Events!   13:04, August 18, 2010 (UTC)

Is that AM or PM? Magic-icon.pngStelercusIlluminated Book of Balance.png 00:59, August 24, 2010 (UTC)
PM   Swizz Talk   Events!   12:36, August 24, 2010 (UTC)

Suggestion - I forget who suggested this in the CC a few weeks back, but the idea was that everyone wears full bronze (l) and creates a train around Varrock, and the leader of the train is wearing an iron full helm instead of a bronze one. Not sure if everyone will like the idea, but I thought it was pretty funny Lol I'm a regular user and I approve this message.  TLUL Talk - Contribs 03:59, August 27, 2010 (UTC)

Wikifest Photo - I agree with Swizz, but it should be a seperate event at the end of the Fest, where everyone takes a photo of all of us in a place next to where the Eastern Fest where, then we could merge it and add it next to them, and that should be the end of the Fest! That would be cool, but I think we really should have a Picture together! :D 1337rng3r 18:30, September 12, 2010 (UTC)

Proposed Event-List

This is the list of events I would like to see and in the order they are given. I don't see a need to write out the whole time table yet (and I am reluctant to do so because I have a blister on one of my fingers making typing more difficult). If we can agree on these events, which is based on some of the more do-able suggestions given above, then we will work on the time table.

  • Meet N' Greet - In the past we have tried to do this in a more secluded area. I don't know why we feel the need to hide the fest away, considering that ideal locations are scarce. I suggest Falador Gardens.
  • Costume Contest - I would like to do it in three categories this time around. One general category, a "most humorous" category, and a "most festive" category with a Halloween theme due to the fest being in the same season as Halloween. People in each category (who should sign up like last time) can then move to different parts of the city for the judges to look at, but if this does not run smoothly, they can just look at their lists.
  • Hide n' Seek - I know this is the same order the events appeared in last fest. We can't change everything, though read on, there are a few more changes. As last time, the hider will be in any safe non-guarded (Guild/Gang hideout) area.
  • Cabbage Patch Chaos - Same as last time.
  • GE Bombing - Lets see if we can implement a few buckets into this.
  • Duel Arena - We all teliport at once to Daemonheim at the end of this. It worked out really well last time.
  • Fist of Guthix
  • Hunt n' Seek - This one is going to be tricky. We agreed last fest that we would start doing clan wars on clan wars severs as to not have to split the cc. Only problem with that is that this event will consist of several 100+ wikians hiding in the safe FFA portal, then users go to hunt/kill them. More details on this if we decide to do it. It's been suggested that we do this, but have all the hiders join a separate clan chat and do the event like a clan-war. I imagine this will be much cleaner.
  • Clan Wars - If we do Hunt n Seek we will have to switch worlds for clan wars. I don't think this will be a major problem. If we are able to mute the chat for the switch, it should go over relatively well even if the change is over time. We will hold the fest on a Clan Wars server and fight other clans in the area.
  • Members House-Party - We can take a look at a few user's POH pages and pick a good one for a house party. I don't like the idea of members and free players splitting (partially because this means I am stuck in F2P) considering that this is supposed to be a community event, though I can settle for the final event being split.
  • F2P Dungeoneering - As the name suggests.

I am going to be out for a week as of Friday night. User:Muzzy34 and User:Gaz Lloyd are the Fest mods and should tend to this discussion during that time. The fact that they are both administrators had nothing to do with the pick. we all are equal, after all.

Magic-icon.pngStelercusIlluminated Book of Balance.png 23:34, August 12, 2010 (UTC)

I like the event list; it looks awesome (to someone who has never actually attended a wikifest). However, I might say upfront to anyone that might ask that I am not going to offer my house for the POH party due to time difficulties. Sorry. --LiquidTalk 23:35, August 12, 2010 (UTC)
Which mod is east and west? 222 talk 06:25, August 13, 2010 (UTC)
My guess is Gaz will be East and Muzzy will be West. Hunter cape (t).png Sentra246Blue hallowe'en mask.png 06:26, August 13, 2010 (UTC)
So no mod actually from Asia/Australia? 222 talk 07:01, August 13, 2010 (UTC)
I think you've misunderstood. I believe Stelercus, Muzzy and Gaz will be the Western (Europe) fest mods, and the Australian/Asian have not been decided. AFAIK, Caleb will be leading it, and 2 others have not been decided. I will not be a mod, as I will be overseas. Chicken7 >talk 07:08, August 13, 2010 (UTC)
OH. 222 talk 07:14, August 13, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - It's great to see a P2P event in there! There are a few wikians I know with 99 construction, perhaps we could sue their houses?   Swizz Talk   Events!   08:26, August 13, 2010 (UTC)

I don't know about taking players to court over their houses =P I do like seeing the idea of multiple categories for the costume contest. There were many humourous costumes by my standards, and all of the winners last time were more "cool" or "aesthetically pleasing" costumes, while mine was based on humour. This is a good idea. melonWatermelon slice.png 08:47, August 13, 2010 (UTC)

Note about East/West - Caleb will be running the Eastern fest, and chances are he will open a new discussion for the purpose. He has not notified me of any mod choices. Magic-icon.pngStelercusIlluminated Book of Balance.png 12:46, August 13, 2010 (UTC)

Support - I'm in full support of this list and the order it's in. It's not exactly original or different from the last fest but that means it'll be just as great. Suggestion, can we include last tests costume contest winners into the judging this time? Even if that dosent include me. Can we also get up some list of people who want to be hiders/ cw defenders/ judges early so every gets a chance to sign up if hey want and at the end we can pull it out of a hat or something? I know it's early but I don't think enough people heard about it last time. - [Pharos] 14:18, August 13, 2010 (UTC)

The signup list has proven ineffective for things other than the costume contest. It was hard to find people from the signup list to be hiders, so I ended up selecting random users in the chat. I will put up a list for the Costume Contest Judges, though. We will need more this time for the contest. Magic-icon.pngStelercusIlluminated Book of Balance.png 15:43, August 13, 2010 (UTC)

Suggestion - Rewards, last time it was an emerald (who woulda guessed stelercus would give green gems out...) I suggest we change it to something non-monetary. Like a hug? Or an essay on why they're epic? - [Pharos] 09:49, August 18, 2010 (UTC)

I have a lot of emeralds in my gem bag right now, so I don't plan to change it. Magic-icon.pngStelercusIlluminated Book of Balance.png 12:43, August 18, 2010 (UTC)
Listen stelercus, I'm getting a hug from you this fest wether you like it or not! We could do it the easy way, or I could go find some ruffies and spike your green cordial. I didn't say you had to be consious for the hug. >=D - But yeah fine, I guess small rewards is Just the easiest way to do it - [Pharos] 13:51, August 18, 2010 (UTC)

The CC - I am able to make it to both fests so Pharos 5 said I should host the CC account. Can I? (I'm thinking "Q4 Fest 2010" (Q4 = quarter 4 (for our buddies on the other hemishere))) Full Slayer Helmet! Evil1888 Talk A's L Dragon Platebody! 10:23, August 18, 2010 (UTC)

I can't back up, but.. it's painful that I am not a member again yet. Can we cut out some events to make them part F2P? F2P can't teleport to Duel Arena because of a P2P item. Firemaking-icon.png Rsrealm Maple logs.png 00:21, August 24, 2010 (UTC)

Oh okay, thanks. SmileFiremaking-icon.png Rsrealm Maple logs.png 17:28, August 27, 2010 (UTC)

Suggestion - For one of the events (beginning or finale), we could use what was just done at the Eastern (which was about 20 people the entire time, and quite fun for the size) WikiFest, the Burnin' G.E. Now as the white and blue firelighters were used and I know they are member items (or at least last I checked) but we could use them not in just the colours of the Wiki, but create a nice large blue "W" with white surrounding it. Assuming this would be added, it would have to occur with person "x" and person "y" in places "z" and "xyz." What do you think? Or just do alternating white and blue like was done tonight? Ryan PM 11:35, August 29, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - Either change the Hunt n' Seek event or completely scrap it. When we did it at the eastern fest it didn't work out too well... I would know, I was out there trying to hide from wikians while being torn apart by small groups of low levels or solo high levels who wandered by. There was also nowhere to hide I'm the FFA portal. So, can I suggest we get the hiders to go into there own clan chat and start a clan war with 'Autumnfest10'. It would mean we get to control all the settings and have a better map. - [Pharos] 12:40, August 29, 2010 (UTC)

That's actually a really good idea. Thanks for the suggestion. Magic-icon.pngStelercusIlluminated Book of Balance.png 20:33, August 29, 2010 (UTC)

Suggestion - Can we have the meet and greet + costume contest at the duel arena? There are a few reasons why I think this would be ideal.

  1. It provides a nice contrast to previouscostume contest areas which might make different colour schemes look better.
  2. Seeing as this costume contest is a categorial one, we could split the contestants into different arenas based on category which would make the judges' jobs easier as they can wander around on the parapets from arena to arena.
  3. We could re-adjust the schedule to have duelling right after the contest, meaning we don't need everyone to have a Ring of Kinship. After the dueling, we can take a good ole fashioned human train to the cabbage patch. With a good train leader, this can actually be quite cool depending on what pattern they set out.
  4. Wikians that are not in the contest can duel with each other instead of standing around doing nothing while the judging is going on.

I think that's about all - [Pharos] 13:24, August 30, 2010 (UTC)

Not so sure that's going to work...
  1. Judges will not be considering how well the colour scheme works with the environment.
  2. Splitting people into different arenas? You have to be in a duel to get into an arena, and you don't pick which of the three you go into. That would actually make judging more difficult, considering people would be fighting each other as well (You know some contestants will).
  3. Ring of Kinship teliporting was a favorite by everyone.
  4. It's supposed to be the Meet n' Greet part of the fest, not the duel arena. The two should remain separate as they both have different qualities.

I really don't want to see this happen. Sorry. Magic-icon.pngStelercusIlluminated Book of Balance.png 12:49, September 1, 2010 (UTC)

Mmmk, it's just a suggestion. I forgot how awesome the dungeoneering mass teleport looked, I don't think we did it in the eastern fest. Didn't think about the fighting during the contest affecting it... I need to think before I comment don't i... - [Pharos] 13:00, September 1, 2010 (UTC)

BTW comment - We really, really don't need to create another account for every single wikifest CC. we need to create one and get it over with. Dave Lopo 16:35, September 2, 2010 (UTC)

It really isn't that big of a deal to make 4 accounts a year. The thing is, I highly doubt one person will make it to all 4 (or 8) fests. Meaning there'd be quite a bit of pw sharing....which isn't a very good thing. HaloTalk 18:19, September 2, 2010 (UTC)

Time Table

Please read before commenting - Let's put it like this:
Q: Why does this time table start at 0:00?
A: That time is just symbolic of when the fest starts. The actual time of day it will start will be determined separately.

Event Time
Meet 'n' Greet 0:00 - 0:10
Costume Contest 0:10 - 0:30
Hide 'n' Seek 0:30 - 0:50
Cabbage patch kids chaos 0:50 - 1:05
Invasion of GE 1:05 - 1:15
Fist of Guthix 1:15 - 1:55
Duel Arena 1:55 - 2:30?
Hunt 'n' Seek 2:30 - 2:45
Clan Wars 2:45 - 3:15
Members' House Party/F2P Dungeoneering 3:15 - ∞ (when people lose interest)

The description of each event can be found above. I am about to leave my house, though I will leave a few suggestions about date/time when I get back. If you have a POH you feel has a sufficient number of rooms to be entertaining, please leave a description on my talk. As I have recommended in the past, the fests should be done on regular weekends. That way, nobody has any big plans, so it will not be difficult to have an in-game gathering. This can be changed if people really want them on holidays. Magic-icon.pngStelercusIlluminated Book of Balance.png 20:15, September 9, 2010 (UTC)
I agree with Stelercus. Also, the last bit of October coincides with the Halloween event. I'm not sure how many people will want to attend the wikifest when there is an event to be done, but of course, that also depends on when the event is released. If it's released on a Friday, I can imagine the fervor spilling over into the weekend. If it's released on a Monday, then no harm done. --LiquidTalk 23:49, September 10, 2010 (UTC)

It will be on a Saturday, so unless you're in a unique situation, that should not be a problem. Magic-icon.pngStelercusIlluminated Book of Balance.png 13:22, September 18, 2010 (UTC)
Yar...Btw I changed my ingame acc to armalingstix, because I mistook my age by 1 year in the age thingy, so they took me for a 13 year old. Snowy Christmas!1337rng3r|Talk T-Hawk wishes you a wonderful snowy Christmas! 16:52, September 18, 2010 (UTC)

Before you all start FoGing each other, would it be possible to take a new image of [[:File:Fogcenter.gif|The FoG centre]], this time without anyone in the middle? Upload as png this time, if possible. 222 talk 06:55, September 21, 2010 (UTC)

Wrapping Up

Okay, so now that the events are decided and the time is set, someone has to go and update RuneScape:Wikifest/Western Autumn Wikifest '10, preferably one of the event moderators. --LiquidTalk 23:55, September 23, 2010 (UTC)

Notice of Intent - In less than 24 hours, this thread will be closed with the fest as currently planned made final. Please make any last minute comments now. Note that discussion may continue if anything major comes up within the allotted time. Magic-icon.pngStelercusIlluminated Book of Balance.png 00:32, September 24, 2010 (UTC)

Oh, in addition to that, if we don't get a POH for the house party within that time, we will not be having one. The event will then be replaced with Castle Wars or something, should all else fail. Magic-icon.pngStelercusIlluminated Book of Balance.png 00:33, September 24, 2010 (UTC)

Closed - Stelercus will make an official page tomorrow. Discussion will continue there and the fest will be advertised. ʞooɔ 23:53, September 24, 2010 (UTC)
