Forum:Waste Not - Want Not!
This Thread i bring to you today is about the info boxes for items, npc and more, i see them all over the wiki, as you all do, but the one thing that has wondered me for a while now, why we got columns that we don't need!for example on Man article there a box saying Slayer Level, what use dose this come to us, and it dosen't stop there, items that aren't used in quests, for example Bucket,
Equipable?, Quest item? what use are they! there pointless, i looked at the problem and found a excellent Answer!
If a person was to put "No" in the columns that we don't need a good idea would be to have it hidden! so that way we save space, and also it makes the wiki tidier, with less columns there, it be more simpler to get our information, and i looked at this Poisonous? column, now this may be important but a solution to this is if it was poisonous, we could have it highlighter green, this way it catch the reader eye and let them know, i believe this answer will suit everyone, as it makes more editing space, and less unwanted space, thus Waste Not - Want Not!
I now end my statement to you the Editors and let you have a chance to say what you think. --11:37, April 23, 2011 (UTC)
I believe i forgot to mention this, not all the boxes will be hidden, only the boxes we don't need on every article, as joey said, mainly the focus is to hide the Slayer level? from articles such as Man, also maybe hide the Quest item? and the Poisonous?, but i see what joey said and removed my mistake, i was meant to say that tabs such as the Equipable? should stay, sorry about the mistake, thanks joey. -- 13:13, April 23, 2011 (UTC)
Oppose - It is not duplicate info or anything when you say a bucket is not equipable. If we are removing that automatically, we will also remove it from certain items of which it would be useful to know it's not equipable, for example Miner helms and other Burial armour might look like it's equipable, so the extra info it's not equipable is not a "waste" so it is a "want" to say it like that. For the other parameters the same applies. There are enough cases where it would be very useful to have info it is not equipable/a slayer assignment/poisonous/whatever. And highlighting the poisonous table is not needed, as this will just distract people, and it looks too disturbing. JOEYTJE50TALK pull my finger 12:35, April 23, 2011 (UTC)
- One part I would agree on to remove from the box would be the 100% drop parameter, because the drop tables already mention this, and people looking for drops will go to the drop tables, not the infobox. JOEYTJE50TALK pull my finger 12:46, April 23, 2011 (UTC)
- Answer to your edit, I disagree it should be removed by default, because there are also monsters like Cow or any other monsters that are assigned but don't require any slayer level, for which the "slayer level" parameter would be useful. I do agree it might be renamed to "Assigned?" if the parameter value is "Not assigned", for which case it is useless to ask for a slayer level. So it would say "Slayer level" if the parameter is set to something else than "not assigned" and if it is, it changes to "Assigned?" with the it saying "No" automatically then. Oppose - We only have those categories due to the template for the infobox. Creating specialized infoboxes just doesn't seem that useful since we can put "N/A" in any portion of the infobox that isn't applicable to said monster/item. Not a bad idea, but I just don't see it being majorly useful, and I like the standardized look of the infoboxes personally. Chaos Monk Talk • Sign 17:59, April 23, 2011 (UTC)

Oppose - It isn't that important, and it causes no harm to give the humble bukkit some extra information, it's not like it takes up a huge amount of space, and it'll prevent us from having to create different infoboxes for all different items. And per Monk, I simply like their standardized appearance. Ronan Talk 21:34, April 25, 2011 (UTC)
Oppose - If you don't put down certain aspects of an article then it can cause confusion and speculation. Having a column that says "No." stamps the chances of that out. Smuff [The cake is a lie] 21:39, April 25, 2011 (UTC)
