Forum:Videoing, the free way
Still sorting out the best way, but Camstudio (please do as thay ask, and use the sourceforge download, rather than the one on the page) seems to be a usable freeware capture utility, though I struggle with framerate. Tried several codecs such as Alparysoft, Lagarith as well as the camstudio one. For the least jerky results, observe the actual framerate (cancel "minimize on capture" to see it) and then set the video option to capture slight lower than that.
Conversion to other formats, including animated GIF is possible with another freeware SUPER. If we develop a guide for this, it should probably be in the wiki project namespace. Ace of Risk 22:41, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

- Camstudio is the 2.0 opensource, source and precompiled available on sourceforge, infinitely preferable to any ehelp-crippled 2.1 versions that may be around.
- Super, has a chequered history of at one time misplacing certain cygwin DLLs, though it appears to be corrected now - reviewed at The Inquirer. It has an update check. Also, there seems to be an ad-hosting screwup on the website, so jump to the homepage otherwise you get a lot of adlinks and can't find the download. Ace of Risk 14:18, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
