I just found a vandal bot warning. See here. [1]. Admins, please have the "lock the wiki" button on standby. ~ Fire Surge icon.png Sentry Telos Talk  16:24, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

Mmm... Don't worry about it to much; bot's without a bot flag (due to editing restrictions) can't do much harm, and admins are online 24/7. Mark (Tedjuh10) - Talk 16:47, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, I thought I'd just let everyone know early so there's less cleanup work later on (assuming this isn't just a dumb threat, and a bot is coming). ~ Fire Surge icon.png Sentry Telos Talk  16:52, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
Most likely an idle threat, however I'll be sure to stay on standby should they attempt to use a proxy-account combination.-- 16:59, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

First of all, we should block the IP that made that edit, that may save us from the bot if it ever comes. The IP that made that edit has no plans to help the wiki, anyway. (I am an admin on another wiki, never found the "Lock the wiki" or "Rollback the wiki" buttons. tell me how to get to them on my talk) Magic-icon.pngStelercusIlluminated Book of Balance.png 20:06, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

We have 3 checkusers so Mr. Vandal Bot won't be more than a minor nuisance. I doubt using Protectsite will even be necessary. Andrew talk 23:56, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

Meh, here are bot rollback guidelines, just in case. Butterman62 (talk) 02:32, 1 September 2009 (UTC)
You can take a look at my monaco.js page (Dr5ag2on1 wrote it); it has a script that adds a [mark as bot] rollback link. Andrew talk 03:48, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

The warning was over twelve hours ago now, and the IP specified "very soon". I'm pretty sure this is, as Azaz said, just an idle threat. ~ Fire Surge icon.png Sentry Telos Talk  06:07, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

"Very soon" can also mean tomorrow, or later this day. Or he wants us to think that it will be soon, and then he'll strike when we think that it is an idle threat. But I think that it was just an idle threat, as you said. Ancient talisman.png Oil4 Talk 09:17, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

This happend moments ago.

It speaks for itself as well. Magic-icon.pngStelercusIlluminated Book of Balance.png 16:45, September 1, 2009 (UTC)

Comment - It seems like a person who hates this wiki in particular. He's called "goodbye rsw", not just "goodbye wikia" or something. I just wonder... Does he really intend to use a vandalbot, or does he just want to scare us? Also, it wouldn't surprise me if he's reading this conversation. Ancient talisman.png Oil4 Talk 17:00, September 1, 2009 (UTC)

I also think that if he really wants to do this, he'll do it when many users (especially sysops) are offline. Ancient talisman.png Oil4 Talk 17:01, September 1, 2009 (UTC)
I'm now convinced that this user is simply another attention seeking troll who wishes to whip the community into a frenzy. Pay him no heed, and allow the admins to brace against any attack. I can assure you that many of us are quite experienced in dealing with situations such as this. I have full trust that with proper precaution, another vandalbot will be simply an incovenience as the last bot was towards the end of the attacks. Should a bot attack with no admins or checkusers on the wiki at the time, immediately alert any admins within the clan chat. If there are no admins there, quickly go to the Wikia IRC and alert any staff present.-- 17:31, September 1, 2009 (UTC)
Also, threats like this occur frequently, we used to get something like this almost weekly.-- 17:49, September 1, 2009 (UTC)
no pls no destroy our siet!!!11shift11!!!!! FrownFrownFrownFrownFrown Andrew talk 20:52, September 1, 2009 (UTC)
I seriously rofl'd at that. Ancient talisman.png Oil4 Talk 20:57, September 1, 2009 (UTC)
Rofl, that vandal has no clue how wikis work whatsoever... — Enigma 03:14, September 2, 2009 (UTC)

Comment - Azaz, it has a good chance of being an idle threat as you may say, but don't convince yourself it is. It very well may be an actual threat and with your guard let down it would do more damage. It's like thinking you won't need as much armour for that boss fight in that quest you've been working on, but when you get there, you learn the hard way it's never too much. — Enigma 03:14, September 2, 2009 (UTC)

As we've already said, we are more than ready. 4 checkusers + edit limits + Special:Protectsite + active admins from basically all time zones = vandal bot pwnt. Andrew talk 03:40, September 2, 2009 (UTC)
You never know. As anti-viruses become better, viruses become worse to combat the anti-virus. It's the same situation with vandal bots, I'm afraid. — Enigma 04:04, September 2, 2009 (UTC)
What are you wanting us to do? Andrew talk 04:10, September 2, 2009 (UTC)
Be ready and don't convince yourself you can easily handle it, prepare for anything that might happen. — Enigma 04:21, September 2, 2009 (UTC)
I think you're being a bit too serious about this. This is pretty straightforward, just a vandal bot, no need to make it sound like the end of the world is at hand. C.ChiamTalk 12:05, September 2, 2009 (UTC)
This is exactly what this user wanted; how more attention this get, how more frequent this will happen. Mark (Tedjuh10) - Talk 12:46, September 2, 2009 (UTC)
Mark has a point. To be honest, it's probably some bored loser living in his parents' basement. Let's not lose too much sleep over it. Butterman62 (talk) 19:43, September 2, 2009 (UTC)
Meh. I'm an overcautious person, it's just how I am. — Enigma 02:20, September 3, 2009 (UTC)

Closed - I think that any point that needed to be made has been made, so I'm closing this. C.ChiamTalk 11:53, September 3, 2009 (UTC)
