I notice in some categories (specifically Category:Quests and Category:Achievement_Diary) some user pages with the Category tag. Should they be removed, and if so, should they be contacted to remove the tag themselves? Also, should there be some preventative measure to to keep user pages off the Category listings?--Djorius 20:31, January 20, 2010 (UTC)

Comment Those seem simple mistakes, I imagine they meant to use the category for "completed such n such". Users should not be on the other ones so it is fine to remove them. But some categories apply to users so what are you suggesting in that second half of your question?--Degenret01 21:21, January 20, 2010 (UTC)

What I meant by the second part was keeping the "personal content", like lists I might make for my own usage, separated from the "encyclopedia content", the things that are part of the game. My apologies if it's not feasible or it's going overboard on error-prevention, I tend to be a bit of a neat freak. I assume it's safe to remove User:Username pages from categories where they "common sensically" should not be, such as Category:Bestiary?--Djorius 21:53, January 20, 2010 (UTC)
Comment - I think there are many userpages in "encyclopaedic" categories because they like putting infoboxes on their userpage and adding all their details in it. I'd like to see this banned and against the rules, as these are encyclopaedic templates, not play toys. Chicken7 >talk 02:16, January 21, 2010 (UTC)
Comment - Templates should be using {{Mainonly|Category list}} to add the categories so that user pages won't be included in them. --Quarenon  Talk 02:32, January 21, 2010 (UTC)
Sounds fair enough to me. I'm a regular user and I approve this message.  TLUL Talk - Contribs 04:25, January 21, 2010 (UTC)

Support Quarenon's idea - Makes sense. White partyhat old.png C Teng talk 22:17, February 20, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - What about those people who use the monster template on their userpage? Wouldn't it be included in the monster category? If not, we could modify frequently used pages on user pages to add a parameter called let's say, user and on which we would add to every user page. This would basicly make it so that it doesn't appear in the category area. --Quest point cape.pngTalk Newbie856 edit count Nomad guideMusic icon.png 07:09, February 26, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - I'm quite a newb when it comes to MediaWiki, so forgive me if this suggestion is stupid, but wouldn't it be possible to use some parameter (like #if) that checks the namespace in which the template is used? So that if it's used in mainspace, the article is added to a category, but if it's in another namespace, it won't be added to that category? Ancient talisman.png Oil4 Talk 12:28, February 26, 2010 (UTC)

@Newbie and Oli - As Q said, {{Mainonly|Category list}} filters for mainspace only - a combination of the parser function #ifeq: and the magic word {{NAMESPACE}} can be used for other namespaces (e.g. most of the image tags use that).

Support - User pages shouldn't really be in content categories. If they are we should remove them and notify the user why we removed them (maybe with a suggestion of what they could have meant?). Quest.png Gaz Lloyd 7:^]Events!99s 14:52, February 26, 2010 (UTC)

Support - Unless it is a userpage page category, there is no real need for userpages to be in mainspace categories. Unicorn horn dust.png Evil Yanks talk 00:33, February 27, 2010 (UTC)

Closed - Userpages do not belong in mainspace categories, and templates should be using {{Mainonly|Category list}} to add the categories. C.ChiamTalk 04:56, April 10, 2010 (UTC)
