I am sure all of you have noticed that the [[Mediawiki:Community-corner|Community corner]] has gone unused for anything other than {{news}}. Well, I would like to look into the idea of adding more to the feature, such as the CVU. This thread simply serves to through out ideas for the time being, though I would like to propose that we add the CVU to the corner as well, should we be able to get it working right. I tried this just now, and one would be unable to edit it from the edit button, as one does not appear, so I made one that looks just the same. I still am not totally sure how to remove the TOC, however.

Here is an example. It's supposed to auto-collapse, if I can get everything working right.

Discussion

NeutralOppose - The problem with the implementation is that it basically just shows the current state of the CVU. I couldn't actually report anything there. Also, most of the reporting I do is done from the "Report this user to the CVU" link that's provided by Quarenon's script. Quarenon's script is found on the Action completed page after I use the rollback button, and it automatically fills in the fields for me, making it much more convenient than going back to My Home and typing the field out.

The second problem that I see with this proposal is that the community corner is also used on the Main page. So, any IPs that come to our Wiki and see the main page are going to see a list of vandals. Not exactly the most inviting welcome we could give.

Just my 2 cents. --LiquidTalk 19:22, March 27, 2010 (UTC)

Good point liquid. This is part of our main page, which is meant to welcome people to the wiki. I don't know about you guys, but I almost never visit the main page, and new users who are visiting our wiki through the main page will likely have no interest in the CVU. --Aburnett(Talk) 19:26, March 27, 2010 (UTC)
I fixed it up before you wrote that so it could be edited from Special:MyHome, mainly with the administrators cleaning things up in mind as The Great Q's script already helps people out with the reporting aspect of things. (edit conflict) No one really reports through the CVU. Almost everyone now uses the auto-CVU script. So, for the majority of users, that is really just an eyesore. It does help admins, but is it worthwhile to place an eyesore for about ~1 million registered users to benefit ~70 admins? --LiquidTalk 19:30, March 27, 2010 (UTC)
I would honestly love to make it so only sysops could see it, which I could if I had access to the wiki's php files (which only staff can get to =/). As stated above, we don't have to do the CVU thing (though User:Iiii I I I was rather eager to add it there once I mentioned it in the cc), but I would like to see it used for more than it is now. Comment - Most people who are serious about vandalism just use Quarenon's auto CVU script, so I'm not quite sure I see the point in that. HaloTalk 19:29, March 27, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - It seems that this has already been implemented. Wink  Tien  16:20, March 28, 2010 (UTC)

Because Stelercus wouldn't listen to me and remove it D=. I asked it to be removed until this thread reached consensus. --LiquidTalk 16:34, March 28, 2010 (UTC)
If we don't test it first, people will not know if it's worth keeping. Magic-icon.pngStelercusIlluminated Book of Balance.png 21:38, March 28, 2010 (UTC)

Strong Support CVU box - That will make things a lot easier for us admins. White partyhat old.png C Teng talk 00:44, April 9, 2010 (UTC)

Why is everyone putting those templates here now? What is the point of requesting a comment on a Yew Grove page? White partyhat old.png C Teng talk 02:11, April 23, 2010 (UTC)
It's an old discussion that I'd like to close, but I feel that there is insufficient consensus to close it either way, and I hate closing things as "No consensus" unless it's absolutely necessary. --LiquidTalk 02:19, April 23, 2010 (UTC)

Other ideas

People are getting a bit hung-up on the CVU aspect proposed above. Use this section for proposing other ideas for the feature. Any comments related to the use of the CVU in this section will just be moved up. Magic-icon.pngStelercusIlluminated Book of Balance.png 21:38, March 28, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - The thing about your proposal is that it affects Special:MyHome. Half the people don't use MyHome, since RecentChanges is much more detailed. The other half don't scroll down far enough on MyHome to actually see the Community section. --LiquidTalk 00:15, March 29, 2010 (UTC)

That's not the point. It's a perfectly good feature I don't think we are making good enough use of. Magic-icon.pngStelercusIlluminated Book of Balance.png 00:17, March 29, 2010 (UTC)

Closed - There is no consensus to do anything more with the feature. Magic-icon.pngStelercusIlluminated Book of Balance.png 23:41, May 13, 2010 (UTC)
