Forum:Use of 'discontinued cosmetic' banner
Someone turned my attention to something that seems to be inconsistent.
Some pages contain the 'discontinued override' banner like for example the Death's silver ceremonial scythe.
Other pages like Sleigher Armour, Prime colossus, Beta scientist outfit and Battleworn Steel Armour don't have this banner, even though they are discontinued.
Comment - Seems like oversight as they all should have it as they are all discontinued.15:34, 27 July 2022 (UTC)
- Comment - OK, thanks. I'll update the pages to include the banner. The Green Butterfly (talk) 15:24, 28 July 2022 (UTC)
Comment - These particular cases seem like an oversight; I think we're generally not very good at consistently applying the template. Over time it's become less clear when something is discontinued, as in its never going to made obtainable again, vs being unobtainable right now. Its rare that we actually know for sure that something is discontinued, e.g. the golden partyhat was accompanied by Jagex saying that the item would be discontinued. Most of time when things become unobtainable its not the case that they are never going to available again and in fact many are later made re-obtainable in later events/promos. I think this may be why editors don't always add the template. It might be better to have a distinct template for the second case which has wording more along the lines of "this is currently unobtainable". However, it seems that the current status quo is to use for both cases, and I think Salix has already answered this question, so we can probably close this thread? 10:40, 3 August 2022 (UTC)
- Comment - Those that were pointed out to me seemed to have a low chance of being reintroduced, but if things change we can always change the banner. I think the thread can be closed. The Green Butterfly (talk) 15:25, 3 August 2022 (UTC)
