simple question, how would you like to see this in the header, it makes everyone seeing the hint of the week? --Project Myface Parsonsda Talk | Sign Here | Project Myface Project Myface 15:24, April 19, 2010 (UTC)

Neutral, leaning towards oppose - I don't think I want to see the Twitter hints on the sitenotice, I can see how they can be helpful, but people that want to see the newest hint can just go to its respective page or the twitter page. bad_fetustalk 15:28, April 19, 2010 (UTC)

Support - That'd save me alot of speculation and time. 15:30, April 19, 2010 (UTC)

Weak Oppose: I understand how this would be helpful, but displaying it so prominently would undercut Jagex's purpose in providing them exclusively to Twitter followers. Besides, my personal opinion is that the twitter hints never give anything big away, just provice enigmatic and confusing references to updates which are only days away. On the other hand, I do find it frustrating to dig through the twitter feed everytime I want to see the latest hint.Skel X 15:36, April 19, 2010 (UTC)

Oppose: Even if we want to relay these hints (I see little reason to), the sitenotice is not an acceptable technical solution. You would either have to update MediaWiki:Sitenotice_id every time you updated it (making it really annoying for people who don't want to see it) or not update the id and have people who dismissed the sitenotice never see them. Endasil (Talk) @  16:00, April 19, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - I oppose it in the site notice, but perhaps under the News template or the Wiki Post template on the mainpage we could import hint's only...the hard thing is they tweet a lot to users, so we don't want to import stuff like that. Unless we can get a program to fetch hints only, I think this labor would outweigh what this can bring to the wiki.

Oppose in the SiteNotice, support elsewhere - Per Bonzi -- In reply to Bonzi, I don't think it's necessary to import the whole Twitter feed. I was thinking that every week we could just copypasta the hint under the News template, but importing the whole feed seems a little much. It would be too hard to filter out all of the replies, FunOrb updates, interviews, contests, etc. Quest point cape.pngLil Diriz 77 Talk Summoning-icon.png 18:08, April 19, 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. It would be hard to fetch just hints only... 18:44, April 19, 2010 (UTC)

Oppose - I do not see a reason to update MediaWiki:Sitenotice for something so trivial as a tweet. However, the site notice doesn't interfere with me because I use #siteNotice {display:none} in my css files. Still, I see no purpose this would serve besides flagging the site notice to those who really don't care. I am against it in any use on the Wiki as it serves no substance, that is it doesn't provide more than speculation. Albeit that it's from Jagex, we are not a crystal ball. Ryan PM 20:38, April 19, 2010 (UTC)

Oppose - Twitter hints are trivial, and most of the time they're outdated. There is no point in having an outdated twitter hint up for four days of the week (since they are only valid for Sunday, when they come out, until Monday or Tuesday, when the update happens). --LiquidTalk 20:41, April 19, 2010 (UTC)

Suggestion/Proposal Instead of making this a sitenotice addition, let's add this to the top of the Community Portal page or include it in the sticky notes feature of your Home Page. Fruit.Smoothie 22:32, April 19, 2010 (UTC)

Oppose - A viable alternative would be to add them to the date pages so they show up in the "on this day" section of the main page. kitty.pngPsycho Robot talkSilver bar.png 20:57, April 20, 2010 (UTC)

Oppose - How hard is it to go to the Twitter hints pages...I mean seriously? HaloTalk 21:07, April 20, 2010 (UTC)

Oppose - I've never cared for the twitter hints, so I'm certain I'm not alone. --KgnomesTalk 02:42, April 21, 2010 (UTC)

Oppose - If people want to see the hint they can get there in one or two clicks.Hunter cape (t).png Sentra246Blue hallowe'en mask.png 06:58, April 21, 2010 (UTC)

Oppose - They are of not much significance as they are too cryptic. —Manyman (talk) 11:44, April 24, 2010 (UTC)

Oppose - After jagex makes a hint, a few hours later, they release the update. BUKKITZ WEEL SMITE YOU!!!Murd3rlogistTalk Contribs Sign here 11:20, April 25, 2010 (UTC)

Oppose - I will resist the urg to say "Eww, Twitter", and just oppose per above. I don't think that this would help anything, really. Ajraddatz Talk 23:37, April 26, 2010 (UTC)

New proposal

Instead of having everyone see this bar, we could give it a special class and set it as a non-displaying thing (<span class="twithint" style="display:none">). If users wanted to have the bar, then they could add a few lines of CSS styling to their monaco.css. Of course, there would be a page that would describe this thoroughly so people know exactly what to do. ShinyUnown T | C | E 01:21, April 27, 2010 (UTC)

Edit: It would like a bit like this:
Site Notice last updated on 30 July 2021
Twitter hint:
Next week in RuneScape: Ruby Dragon! ~Ems(RSDev)
Released 25 April 2010.
  • Nothing happened recently because this is an example!

If I ever get around to making a days until template I might use it. ShinyUnown T | C | E 21:26, April 27, 2010 (UTC)

Oppose - If users wanted to see it, they'd go to Jagex's Twitter. Simple as that. Ancient talisman.png Oil4 Talk 17:05, April 27, 2010 (UTC)

Neutral - Well, if people are so lazy that they can't just type in "", then fine, yeah Concerned... I can't really oppose this as this would be a customizable feature that anyone could add to their css without any major coding... but really, I don't think it's that hard to type in a simple URL O_o. Support for the people who would use it, but oppose because it's such a simple matter. Quest point cape.pngLil Diriz 77 Talk Summoning-icon.png 20:39, April 27, 2010 (UTC)

Conditional Support - Personally, I think this would be useful. If we can find a way to have it automatically update (and come on, there's got to be an RSS feed of it or something), then I'm all for it. If not, I think it'd be a little much to update given that few users seem to want to read it. I'm a regular user and I approve this message.  TLUL Talk - Contribs 20:15, April 30, 2010 (UTC)

Oppose- The site notice is the last place we should have a twitter hint. It is for wiki related bits of news. The last bloody thing I want to see is the sitenotice updated because of some vague line relating to an update no one knows about. Put them where people only have to see it if they go looking for it.--Degenret01 20:26, April 30, 2010 (UTC)

P.S Many of us would see it as we have sitenotice on our watchlists.--Degenret01 20:28, April 30, 2010 (UTC)
That's where you're wrong. We can use the <rss> tag for an automatically updating Twitter hint. ShinyUnown T | C | E 15:06, May 3, 2010 (UTC)
Or, better yet, we could have a transcluded template. This way we could also wikify it. ShinyUnown T | C | E 01:10, May 4, 2010 (UTC)

Oppose - Even if I don't see it, to use the sitenotice for this you would either have to let it go out of date, or update sitenotice_id to cause it to pop back up for users that dismissed their sitenotice. And I oppose the sitenotice_id being updated for twitter hints, since for the vast majority of us who have them hidden, it will confusingly bring a dismissed sitenotice back up. Endasil (Talk) @  20:33, April 30, 2010 (UTC)

Oppose - In general, if people want to read Twitter stuffs, they can go on Twitter... Ajraddatz Talk 01:11, May 4, 2010 (UTC)

New, new proposal

I propose just moving all future twitter hints to your home page ( We can fit it as a WikiSticky, or just place it somewhere where it's easy to see but not as intrusive. Sounds good? That way, you can check up on your latest updates of the RSW while receiving the latest updates of RS. Fruit.Smoothie 05:04, May 4, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - I don't think it's really the right place to put it, is it not just easy to go to the Twitter hints page?   Swizz Talk   Events!   15:43, May 4, 2010 (UTC)

No no no no no Whether its in Myhome, a special page all its own, or in a banner, it just shouldn't be here on the wiki. Its a click away for anyone that wants to see it. Are we going to add Yahoo mail, Google mail, Youtube, and Facebook links to myhome? No. Not on the wiki please.--Degenret01 15:48, May 4, 2010 (UTC)

I agree completely. If people want to look at twitter updates... they can go on twitter. Ajraddatz Talk 15:49, May 4, 2010 (UTC)
Its not very difficult to type "twitter/officialjagex" :/   Swizz Talk   Events!   17:05, May 4, 2010 (UTC)

Oppose - There is nothing hard about going to the Twitter hints page. We do not need cryptic clues clogging up our official means of communication. --LiquidTalk 19:09, May 4, 2010 (UTC)

Can we discuss the proposal above that is based on user preferences? ShinyUnown T | C | E 00:08, May 5, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - I'm a bit confused as to why there seems to be such hatred of the possibility of the hints being on the wiki... I'm a regular user and I approve this message.  TLUL Talk - Contribs 05:56, May 5, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - I oppose putting it in all the places that have been suggested, such as the SiteNotice, Community Portal, Main Page and MyHome. But I don't like the argument that you need to go to Twitter to find these clues. We should be supplying this information here, and maybe something could be done to make it a little more "findable".
