I when heard that Star Wars Fanon had transparent drop-down menus, and of course I had to check it out. I find it looking quite cool, it adds a bit of a wow factor, since very few wikis have it and it keeps drop down menus from fully blocking the content underneath the menu.

The code is simple, it just needs to be added to MediaWiki:Common.css:

/* Transparent drop-down menus (sidebar) - From Star Wars Fanon, [[w:c:swfanon:MediaWiki:Monaco.css]] */
.menu-item {
    opacity: 0.90 !important;
}

Edit: Fixed the information for it at 02:51, 2 July 2009 (UTC). To use it right now you can add it to your user css. I added it to my global css, so I have it across Wikia.

Click [[w:c:swfanon:Main_Page|here]] for the Star Wars Fanon where this is in use.

  • Oppose - I quite prefer the dropdown menu the way it is now, solid. I don't really see a "Wow" factor to be honest. Also, if they were looking for other content in the menu, would it matter if the menu blocks text? C.ChiamTalk 10:58, 28 June 2009 (UTC)
  • Support - It annoys me when I accedentally mouse over the menu and have to wait for it to disappear before I can continue reading/editing. Quest.png Gaz Lloyd 7:^]Events!99s 18:18, 28 June 2009 (UTC)
  • Support - Looks good, if after we try it out for a while, and many don't like it, raise the point here again. ~MuzTalk 18:20, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

Comment' - Can we get a working example? The link you posted is dead. Cap and goggles.pngTEbuddy 20:24, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

This would be the link you want. Make sure you Let the admins override your skin choice in your preferences (of skin). Quest.png Gaz Lloyd 7:^]Events!99s 20:31, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

Neutral I don't much care for it since I don't use a skin designed with floating menus. Cap and goggles.pngTEbuddy 23:12, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

Oppose - Per Calebchiam; unnecessary eye-candy in my opinion. If this ends up passing though, any registered Monaco user who dislikes it can override the setting to make the menus opaque again. --Quarenon  Talk 02:08, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

Support - I think it looks nice. Vadanea 05:03, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

Comment - I fixed the css and where to put it at the top of the page. If people don't like it we can just remove it.

/* Make the drop down menus opaque again. */
.menu-item {
    opacity: 1.00 !important;
}

Users that don't like the translucent menus should add that to their user css, as far as I know that code should make the menus opaque. - TehKittyCatTalk Wikian-Book 02:51, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

Support - A welcome change that looks refreshing. One thing to note is that I sometimes edit from a Netbook that fairly slow. Users with slow computers may suffer. Sorry, forgot to sign in. GabeeshyÞ 00:38, 9 July 2009 (UTC)

Support - Those who dislike it can just put that css on.--Joe Click Here for Awesomeness 07:09, 19 July 2009 (UTC)

Unemphatic oppose - I don't like it all that much, but as others had said, any advanced user can disable it. My only concerns are 1.) Would it make the Wiki lag more? and 2.) People with bad eyes could have trouble when seeing both sets of text at the same time. kitty.pngPsycho Robot talkSilver bar.png 20:49, 19 July 2009 (UTC)
