Proposing a transcript namespace (e.g. Transcript:Doric). We're at the point where we have a lot of these types of pages (nearly 1000 pages have "/dialogue" or "/transcript" in their name). My biggest reason behind wanting these segregated from the rest of the articles is that we didn't actually write any of the content. All of these pages are transcriptions of in game text, which puts them in a similar position to the Update: namespace.

A couple minor advantages is that these pages will always be easy to find. Much better than the mess of "dialogue" and "Transcript" (why is one lowercase?; why is Barbarians v. Wizards/transcript not capital T??????). I'd also like to look forward to namespace specific styling and javascript that would be heaps easier to manage if transcripts were in their own place. Currently, dialogue is honestly a bit hard to follow. Redoing the styling to be more reader friendly (and doing it properly, mind you) would require either an overhaul of syntax (which none of us want), or a unique selector (which can be easily handled with a unique namespace; though, this isn't the only way).

Discussion

Support - Given the precedent of the Update namespace, I don't think this is that bad of an idea. MolMan 21:46, March 22, 2016 (UTC)

Support - It would look much better overall to separate them in this manner. Ryan PM 21:52, March 22, 2016 (UTC)

Oppose - We are only allowed to have one namespace. ʞooɔ 23:58, March 22, 2016 (UTC)

Our only namespace should be module. We don't need any of those silly ones like main. Quest.png Gaz Lloyd 7:^]Events!99s 00:00, March 23, 2016 (UTC)

Questions/Comment - For whoever implements this, this currently impacts 935 pages (assuming this is only applying to subpages). If this were applied to pages with the transcript on them, e.g. Mysterious chronicle (part 1), then that includes an additional 575 (1510 total), see Category:Contains transcript. And as I've just brought it up, does this proposal includes those 575 pages as well?

What sort of js/css would people like to see? I'm all for standardising how we do things, and I think there's improvements to be made as well from both the perspective of readers and editing, but does anyone have any suggestions while we're here? cqm {{subst:#time:H:i, j M Y}} (UTC)

We would move those pages as well. They would be transcluded on the page with a template that would grab the transcript and wrap it in tag to give it the same styling as the namespace. I was going to work on some css to improve the readability sometime this week. As for JS, I haven't thought of anything much; just a couple brainstorms. Will be sure to poke you or Gaz if there's something I really want. MolMan 14:01, March 23, 2016 (UTC)
With regards to improving readability, what about simple things like using a standard width (where applicable) and improving font size? As far as transclusion goes, what about something similar to what we do for /doc and {{Documentation}} (the concept, not they styles. cqm {{subst:#time:H:i, j M Y}} (UTC)
What we do with /docs wouldn't work because /docs don't have a closing div tag. MolMan 15:40, March 23, 2016 (UTC)
Maybe draw inspiration to the slightly different system used on enwiki then? Use {{Transcript}} on the page itself and then do funky stuff within that to get the transcript ns page. cqm {{subst:#time:H:i, j M Y}} (UTC)
My idea was
{{Transcript|Page}}
becomes
<div class="transcript">{{Transcript:Page}}</div>
MolMan 17:05, March 23, 2016 (UTC)
Yeah, that's pretty much it :) cqm {{subst:#time:H:i, j M Y}} (UTC)

Comment - A mock up of some interactive, transcript-specific CSS can be previewed here by pasting this css into either your personal file or inspect element. If you're too lazy for that, you can see a non-interactive version here. MolMan 20:20, March 23, 2016 (UTC)

This should work as well; however, "ns-1111" will need to be changed to whatever namespace number we get. MolMan 14:53, March 24, 2016 (UTC)
I know it's not exactly at the fore of your thinking but might not be a bad idea to include the numbered options that appear in the chatbox for each relevant section. --Henneyj 23:57, March 28, 2016 (UTC)
It wouldn't be a bad idea, no. But the result of this forum will not be changing the actual format source-wise of any dialogue page. That would be something to discuss in a separate forum regarding new syntax. If ordered lists are switched to for that, then numbers should be easy to implement. MolMan 23:59, March 28, 2016 (UTC)

Support - I write/edit a lot of these transcripts, so I would be keen to see a uniform change to them that would come from the namespace. Cache117 (talk) 22:07, March 28, 2016 (UTC)

Support - Sounds great! I know what you mean when you say that these are inconsistent with each other. Putting them in their own namespace will put a stop to that once and for all. Go for it! [1] Pink Floyd Talk page Vandalize my sig

Comment - As the consensus here is obviously clear, I've sent a message requesting the new namespace and will close this when it's been implemented. cqm {{subst:#time:H:i, j M Y}} (UTC)

Closed - Namespace has been created. As some additional info based on questions that weren't covered here but were requested as part of the namespace's creation, the namespace has subpages enabled and will show up in searches via Special:Search by default. cqm {{subst:#time:H:i, j M Y}} (UTC)
