Okay, when did we suddenly decide we need three ge prices per item? Seriosuly? That infobox is getting so long people have to scroll to get to the bottom half. This is ridiculous to the extreme. ONE price is all we need. What it sells for. On the GE. THE price. We used to have the "update the price" button right there in the box with it, great. It made sense. What we have now is cumbersome and confusing to newer people and does not offer any benefits in the way it is being done. This should be reduced back to ONE GE price, and a button to update that price. Maybe a second button to go to the RS GE price. But keep it small, all in the same box.--Degenret01 15:40, August 1, 2010 (UTC)

Support - I find it too confusing myself with all these watchgraphs and databases. It simply needs the price. Coelacanth0794 15:43, August 1, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - I assume by this you mean Exchange/Database+chart? I honestly wanna say be bold and remove database link/chart. HaloTalk 15:44, August 1, 2010 (UTC)

If I knew how to do it in one shot this forum wouldn't be here :P Degenret01 15:47, August 1, 2010 (UTC)

Support - Per nom. ajr 15:46, August 1, 2010 (UTC)

Support - If really necessary, add the links after the chart, with small tags. Quest point cape.pngTalk Newbie856 edit count Nomad guideMusic icon.png 16:02, August 1, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - I believe I have the correct code in my sandbox, an example shown in the main sandbox. I will work on coming up with a link to the RS page. Someone who is really good with codes should probably check my revisions and make sure nothing will break. HaloTalk 16:06, August 1, 2010 (UTC)

Okay, I tried making a link to the official page, and...it didn't go very well, if someone else wants to mess around with it, be my guest. HaloTalk 16:30, August 1, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - I think we should also use this as an opportunity to fix some of the clunky GEMW code, as seen on Dragon gauntlets. 295,400 coins update coins? --Aburnett(Talk) 16:49, August 1, 2010 (UTC)

Shouldn't be all that hard...I'll work on it right after this boss. HaloTalk 16:53, August 1, 2010 (UTC)
I have no idea what is going on with that. I've checked other items and they are right...I don't know what the deal is with that page, I'll work on it. HaloTalk 17:10, August 1, 2010 (UTC)
On second thought: It's because it's untradeable. But I still have no idea how to fix it. So...some coding expert can handle that in addition to checking what I did. HaloTalk 17:13, August 1, 2010 (UTC)
Actually, its because it's GE name differs from it's article name (see Attack_potion) --Aburnett(Talk) 17:17, August 1, 2010 (UTC)
The infobox and GE template are conflicting in that each has a setting to add "coins" to the end of the price.-- 17:20, August 1, 2010 (UTC)
My bad. HaloTalk 17:22, August 1, 2010 (UTC)
This has been fixed. I added a new field, gemwname, where you can change the name it looks for in the GEMW database. Then later, Gaz added it so it actually worked. kitty.pngPsycho Robot talkSilver bar.png 20:05, August 3, 2010 (UTC)

Support - I suppose I should officially throw that in there. HaloTalk 16:52, August 1, 2010 (UTC)

I wasn't proposing it so much as I was saying "I have no idea how to fix this, someone help plawx" --Aburnett(Talk) 16:54, August 1, 2010 (UTC)

Remove GEMW link, Keep GEDB link - And as for the code on Dragon gauntlets, that's a shortcoming of Infobox Item: its inability to display the GE stats of a differently-named item. It means that for the update link to appear, Template:GEPriceUpdate must be used, which adds the word coins. Unfortunately, that word is also added by the infobox. I suggest that we add a gemwitem parameter to Infobox Item, such that if exchange=GEMW, the item it uses is specified by gemwitem (but still defaults to the item name, as it does now). It can't hurt. I'm a regular user and I approve this message.  TLUL Talk - Contribs 19:17, August 1, 2010 (UTC)

That's kind of what I want to do, but I can't get the GEDB link to go into the same box. It keeps making a third column and putting it in there. HaloTalk 19:21, August 1, 2010 (UTC)
Well, we could make it a separate row, and have the link span both columns. Calling it "Official Database" or something like that might be less confusing than the current name. I'm a regular user and I approve this message.  TLUL Talk - Contribs 04:01, August 2, 2010 (UTC)
If you have the know how to do it, feel free to edit my sandbox. HaloTalk 04:07, August 2, 2010 (UTC)

Support - Why the hell were there ever three to begin with.. Andrew talk 19:41, August 1, 2010 (UTC)

Support - Two's company, three's a crowd. One row is all that is needed (could we see an example here to know how we can still have the links relocated?). Ryan PM 05:28, August 2, 2010 (UTC)

Support as long as there is a link to the Exchange page somewhere on the page - I added that in because with the GEMW scipt there was no link to the Exchange page and i couldn't work out how to make the Exchange price link to go to Exchange page, without making red links on non GE sellable items. If anyone could do that then there would only be 2 and there would still be a link ot the page but no 3 prices. Hunter cape (t).png Sentra246Blue hallowe'en mask.png 07:02, August 2, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - Don't call me stupid, but I have no idea what part of GEMW we are referring to. Is this the page with all the prices of one item on it or is it like this? 222 talk 07:10, August 2, 2010 (UTC)

It's like Exchange:Ashes. Hunter cape (t).png Sentra246Blue hallowe'en mask.png 07:15, August 2, 2010 (UTC)
Uhh, is it really that long? And which three prices? I'm really slow today... 222 talk 07:55, August 2, 2010 (UTC)
He's talking about the Template:Infobox Item which now has price, GEDB lookup and GEMW lookup i think. Nothing worng with the actual Exchange pages. Hunter cape (t).png Sentra246Blue hallowe'en mask.png 07:57, August 2, 2010 (UTC)
Ohh! Thanks for clarifying. Is it really that big? Maybe my screen's just larger, but I see how it might be an issue. I am neutral about it. 222 talk 08:04, August 2, 2010 (UTC)

Neutral - Meh, I don't see what's so confusing about that. bad_fetustalk 07:52, August 2, 2010 (UTC)

Neutral - :/ I like seeing the price, our market watch, and the link to the GE. Farming cape (t).png Lil cloud 9 Talk 08:07, August 2, 2010 (UTC)

Suggestion - I truly think we need all links there. I don't see a problem with how it currently is, but think it's be best if the links are relocated or linked somewhere else on the page; BUT NOT REMOVED! I have an idea that someone more js/CSS savvy can investigate. I came across a coding string on another wiki that hides text, until you hover over a button/icon/link/etc. Here is an example in someone's signature. The code is on their .css page, and here it is:

/* allows for expanding hidden sig sections (experimental) -Dawg */
.sighidden { display: none }
.sigexpand:hover .sighidden { display: inline }
.sigclick:active .sighidden { display: inline }

Is it possible we could use this to hide the links, until an icon/link/row is hovered over and they appear? Not only for this, but for uses in many other areas, such as the Community Portal, Walkthroughs, D&D locations, Signatures, Userpages, Calculators, mainspace articles and so much more. Whaddya think? Cheers, Chicken7 >talk 09:05, August 2, 2010 (UTC)

Notice of Intent - Unless any opposition appears in the near future, the following course of action will be taken:

  • The GEMW link will be moved to the field with the graph.
  • The Store Price will be removed.

Magic-icon.pngStelercusIlluminated Book of Balance.png 14:58, August 21, 2010 (UTC)

Oppose removal of store price - Some people might actually be interested in the store price. I do agree that having that many GE prices is a bit overkill. --LiquidTalk 17:16, August 21, 2010 (UTC)

Oppose removal of store price - Per Liquidhelium. I'm a regular user and I approve this message.  TLUL Talk - Contribs 18:46, August 21, 2010 (UTC)

"sigexpand" Proposal

[view][talk]

Well, no one commented on my idea/suggestion above, so I went ahead and did some testing. At my test wiki, I was able to come up with this. Not only is this code useful for this, but it can be put to use in many other areas, such as the Community Portal, Walkthroughs, D&D locations, Signatures, Userpages, Calculators, mainspace articles and so much more. If you don't like its use in this particular template, but would like the string implemented (easily), please say so. Whaddya think? Chicken7 >talk 06:58, August 23, 2010 (UTC)

It looks good, but I am concerned about what the expansion may do to large bodies of text and/or images. 222 talk 07:05, August 23, 2010 (UTC)
Hmm, I can't get it to work on my [[w:c:thebrains222:Template:Infobox item word test|wiki]]. The text stays expanded. I really want to see how it affects the layout of the page. 222 talk 07:22, August 23, 2010 (UTC)
Also, a suggestion, why not just keep it like that, expanded. There are now links to the previous pages and we didn't delete anything! 222 talk 07:22, August 23, 2010 (UTC)

Oppose - Most people wouldn't realise it would be there unless they accidentally hovered over it, plus as 222 said it may disrupt whole pages with expanding the box. Hunter cape (t).png Sentra246Blue hallowe'en mask.png 07:19, August 23, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - Layout should not be affected. The thing about my example is, it has very limited fields. Infobox item auto-expands, I believe, to a certain maximum width. When you put it on an actual article, with most information filled in, it will make no/little difference when expanded. I do agree it needs notification that it can be hovered over. Any ideas of where to put the note and what to say? Chicken7 >talk 07:53, August 23, 2010 (UTC)

Oppose - Per Sentra , but I may change if I see it with a full infobox, full page, and always expanded. Full Slayer Helmet! Evil1888 Talk A's L Dragon Platebody! 07:58, August 23, 2010 (UTC)

Oppose - I would support if the text is always there, i.e. the infobox fully expanded. We can use a hidden text setting on other pages, but not this. 222 talk 08:02, August 23, 2010 (UTC)

2nd proposal - I also see the concerns of the opposition. Shall we just have the small text there permanently, and have no sigexpand on this particular template? Chicken7 >talk 08:20, August 23, 2010 (UTC)

Yes! That's what I have been saying; support. 222 talk 08:50, August 23, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - I want to see it in the full template to see how big it would actually be. Hunter cape (t).png Sentra246Blue hallowe'en mask.png 09:04, August 23, 2010 (UTC)

Request for closure - Discussion has dies down, no consensus. ajr 04:00, September 3, 2010 (UTC)

Wait a moment. I want to see how people think of the changed "sigexpand" proposal. 222 talk 06:47, September 3, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - Can we change the price history graph image to link to the exchange page and remove the GE Market Watch row? I don't see how that would cause any problems. Riblet15 18:20, September 11, 2010 (UTC)

Alternate Proposal

This is basically what Chicken proposed above. I have added it to the infobox item template so we can see what it looks like.

Alternate Discussion

Support - As nom. 222 talk 05:57, September 25, 2010 (UTC)

Oppose - First of all, a 500k feather is ridiculous. Second, that's not the examine info (and it's spelled ton, not tonne). Anyways, in all seriousness, I don't see why we removed Quarenon's update script. That makes life so much easier than going to each page and changing it manually. --LiquidTalk 20:20, September 25, 2010 (UTC)

Huh? That wasn't meant to happen. I think I stuffed it up when I cannibalised it from the template. It's not a working copy, display purposes only. When [someone other than me can make] it works would you support? 222 talk 00:26, September 26, 2010 (UTC)
