As shown by the extremely poor turnout at the recent "Nveon event", it is obvious that the current "Community messages" in Special:WikiActivity does not serve the needs of the RuneScape Wiki when it comes to relaying information to our editors and viewers.

A few ideas have been floating around recently, the best is probably adding the Sitenotice to the Recent Changes text. Of course it would be best if we could add the Sitenotice back to every page, but thanks to ToU we can't.

Essentially, the proposal is: add the Sitenotice to Recent Changes text.

Support - I just said this... copycat! Full Slayer Helmet! Evil1888 Talk A's L Dragon Platebody! 01:39, November 14, 2010 (UTC)

I know Lol 222 talk 01:51, November 14, 2010 (UTC)

Support - If it's good enough for the brains of the Wiki, then it's definitely good enough for me! Lol [1] N7 Elite (Ready to talk now?) 01:45, November 14, 2010 (UTC)

Elaborate on "add to Recent Changes text". Will it show up each time you hit Recent Changes? Will there be a way to dismiss it as there is with the regular sitenotice? --Andorin (Talk) (Contribs) 01:50, November 14, 2010 (UTC)

Indeed. This will be a nuisance if it can't be dismissed. --Aburnett(Talk) 01:52, November 14, 2010 (UTC)
It will be exactly like the former Sitenotice, hide-able and dismiss-able. If possible. 222 talk 01:53, November 14, 2010 (UTC)

Support and comment - This is a good place to start. But i think we should Contact wikia showing that this is a problem and asking if we can get a modification to the TOU. We really need this fixed as the current way is just unacceptable. Hunter cape (t).png Sentra246Blue hallowe'en mask.png 01:58, November 14, 2010 (UTC)

Comment/Proposal - What we could do is go back to the old system with a little addition. Update MediaWiki:Sitenotice and then would have to update MediaWiki:Sitenotice id so it would appear to those who dismissed it, and transclude the sitenotice onto the MediaWiki:Community-corner () and edit the MediaWiki:Community-corner (change just the number in the comment) so the message "Community corner has been updated" only appears when wanted and not just fixing a typo. Full Slayer Helmet! Evil1888 Talk A's L Dragon Platebody! 01:59, November 14, 2010 (UTC)

I already did that, as obvious improvements don't require consensus. Magic-icon.pngStelercusIlluminated Book of Balance.png 03:08, November 14, 2010 (UTC)
No, you do something similar. Full Slayer Helmet! Evil1888 Talk A's L Dragon Platebody! 12:01, November 14, 2010 (UTC)
It makes more sense to have people update MediaWiki:Community-corner/message and transclude that onto the sitenotice, because the vast majority of our users use oasis. Magic-icon.pngStelercusIlluminated Book of Balance.png 12:03, November 14, 2010 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) After thinking about this... it wouldn't work. Full Slayer Helmet! Evil1888 Talk A's L Dragon Platebody! 12:09, November 14, 2010 (UTC)

Support - Sounds good. Btw, I already see the sitenotice on the RC page on iPhone with the wikia skin... can someone tell me why 0_o? I'll upload a screenshot to PBucket. - [Pharos] iPhone Edit 02:05, November 14, 2010 (UTC)

The wikiaphone skin still uses the sitenotice at the top of every page. Hunter cape (t).png Sentra246Blue hallowe'en mask.png 02:08, November 14, 2010 (UTC)
Oic, thanks. - [Pharos] iPhone Edit 02:18, November 14, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - So we want this, right? - [Pharos] iPhone Edit 02:18, November 14, 2010 (UTC)

It's would look a bit like this. Full Slayer Helmet! Evil1888 Talk A's L Dragon Platebody! 02:39, November 14, 2010 (UTC)

Support - Extremely helpful, since the Recent Changes is my landing point on the wiki now (ever since the removal of MyHome). I'm a regular user and I approve this message.  TLUL Talk - Contribs 03:20, November 14, 2010 (UTC)

Support - We could also put in our IRC channel's topic a link to the Community message. svco4bY.png3Gf5N2F.png 03:29, November 14, 2010 (UTC)

Support - Hopefully this will get the message out well enough.   Swizz Talk   Events!   10:34, November 14, 2010 (UTC)

Support - Per above. Magic-icon.pngStelercusIlluminated Book of Balance.png 11:54, November 14, 2010 (UTC)

Support - Though I use Monobook now, but I hope it doesn't appear twice for me on the recent changes since I never dismiss the message the top. Farming cape (t).png Lil cloud 9 Talk 21:36, November 14, 2010 (UTC)

Oppose - Ever since this miracle happened, it just disturbs us. Changed to Support after Evil's post below --中亚人/中亞人 (Chinasian/Jeffwang16) 跟我谈话 01:36, November 15, 2010 (UTC)

That isn't going to last forever; eventually Wikia will delete the copy of monaco that is on the server, and then your solution will be null. I support the proposal. ajr 01:39, November 15, 2010 (UTC)
Same with Monobook. --中亚人/中亞人 (Chinasian/Jeffwang16) 跟我谈话 01:42, November 15, 2010 (UTC)
Also note that everyone doesn't use monobook. svco4bY.png3Gf5N2F.png 01:44, November 15, 2010 (UTC)
Monobook doesn't require much maintenance due to very little JavaScript and will be kept for quite awhile. Ryan PM 15:29, November 15, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - Can we add something like <span id="rcSitenotice"></span> so that those using monobook can use css to remove it? Full Slayer Helmet! Evil1888 Talk A's L Dragon Platebody! 01:48, November 15, 2010 (UTC)

Don't see why not. ajr 01:54, November 15, 2010 (UTC)
There is also the issue with those using a mobile phone to browse the wiki. When using the Wikiaphone skin, there is no hide option and JS elements do not appear, however the Sitenotice (for the time being) still works. On other wikis, the dismiss option exists, but here, no. Just food for thought. Ryan PM 15:29, November 15, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - This will help, and I support, but this isn't going to solve our issue. I only go to Special:WikiActivity or Special:RecentChanges very rarely. Matt (t) 04:53, November 15, 2010 (UTC)

Support - As long as no plain [Text] is placed in the Wikia.js, I'll be fine with it (Cause I still haven't figured out how to remove the poorly done Summaries in the editOptions). Ryan PM 15:29, November 15, 2010 (UTC)

Request for closure - I'm shocked that nobody has linked to RS:BB. Anyways, this certainly doesn't need a discussion, and it's common sense to add it. bad_fetustalk 17:54, November 15, 2010 (UTC)

Because linking to RS:BB (happy?) would be pointless as 222 would need the ability to edit the MediaWiki... which he cannot... Full Slayer Helmet! Evil1888 Talk A's L Dragon Platebody!

Request for closure declined - This is a legitimate discussion, concerns have been brought up, and I see no reason to close it at this point. ajr 19:06, November 15, 2010 (UTC)

I see no concerns... but meh,whatever. bad_fetustalk 21:42, November 15, 2010 (UTC)

Will this work? - Every 3 days a bot (or admin) will edit MediaWiki:Community-corner's number thing. I know it'll be annoying, but that's all I got. Don't vote just yet. --中亚人/中亞人 (Chinasian/Jeffwang16) 跟我谈话 22:22, November 15, 2010 (UTC)

Uhh...what will that accomplish? ʞooɔ 22:24, November 15, 2010 (UTC)
Advertising... I dunno. I was just RS:BB. --中亚人/中亞人 (Chinasian/Jeffwang16) 跟我谈话 22:37, November 15, 2010 (UTC)
You know every time you have an idea you do not have to create a new section. You could just put "Comment - How about?" svco4bY.png3Gf5N2F.png 23:28, November 15, 2010 (UTC)

I can only see this as counter productive, as the goal is to make sure users will only be bothered by the update message when there's actually something that's been updated. Otherwise, users will come to ignore the then useless message completely. Magic-icon.pngStelercusIlluminated Book of Balance.png 00:43, November 16, 2010 (UTC)

^222 talk 05:26, November 16, 2010 (UTC)

Closed - Something roughly equivalent to the old Sitenotice will be added to the recent changes text. --LiquidTalk 00:20, November 20, 2010 (UTC)

To get rid of the sitenotice on the RC page, add #rcSitenotice {display:none !important} to your css. --LiquidTalk 00:33, November 20, 2010 (UTC)
