Today, after the conference call that Jagex had with some of the fansites sent out a "what went down" message that contained a request of fansites:

Thanksgiving plans – in-game title competition launching next week, in addition we need fan sites to help with a plan we have where we send you an image of a Turkey with a code and you put it somewhere on your site – players have to visit all your sites and join the codes together to get something cool – let us know ASAP if you would be up for ‘hosting a Turkey image’.

I am wondering if we want to participate in this and if so, this would be decided sooner than the normal seven day process we use here on the Yew Grove.

On a side note, do we want to encourage the use of JAG?

JAG assets – now sent out to everyone, including .pds files for non-English communities so they can edit in their text

Gentle reminder to use and promote JAG if you can – our Player Support team do a little dance every time they see a fan site mention or promote JAG ;)

Finally I’ve attached some custom image files for you – they can be used to highlight, support and promote the use of JAG within your community. We’ve included the most common sizes used on fan sites to make it easy for you to use them, but if you’d like a custom size and can’t adjust them yourself just shout and I’ll get a Photoshop Goblin deployed to the task ASAP.

We know you guys are pushed for space on your sites but we really would encourage you to have a support / security section or feature JAG prominently – it’s saving a huge number of players from the heartache of hijacking already and we’d love to get as many people as possible using it – it’s quick, easy and free!

Comment - I'm alright with both, but what does the community think about this? - Ryan PM 23:56, October 25, 2012 (UTC)

Question - I don't understand at all what they want...can someone explain this YG thread in layman's terms to me? 7kyt1iT.gif --WINE OF GOOD HEALTH (Actually Stinko) 00:08, October 26, 2012 (UTC)
1) They want to hide a code, like GVT6F9E, with a turkey image somewhere on this wiki. The aim is that there will be many such turkeys hidden in as many fansites, and it'll be a kind of turkey hunt.
2) They want the wiki to promote Jagex Account Guardian.  a proofreader ▸  00:12, October 26, 2012 (UTC)
Do they know we have 26k pages to choose from? Hide it on something like Flames of Lloigh-enn or Gaalsien see what happens Wink cqm 00:18 • 26/10/2012 (UTC) (UTC)
Ah, I see. (No, hide it on a music track article! XD) 7kyt1iT.gif --WINE OF GOOD HEALTH (Actually Stinko) 00:23, October 26, 2012 (UTC)
Or throw it on the Jagex Account Guardian page... Two birds with one stone WgvxeSr.png - frouZAC.png 06:08, October 26, 2012 (UTC)
Let's put it on my userpage. MolMan 18:57, October 26, 2012 (UTC)

Comment - I see nothing wrong with this (if users/anons are smart, they'd look for imageusage of the turkey XD) so I think we should go ahead with this once it comes up. Hair 00:46, October 26, 2012 (UTC)

Of course we wouldn't use a regular filelink, but include the url of the file, to make cheating using filelinks impossible. JOEYTJE50TALKpull my finger 12:53, October 26, 2012 (UTC)
Wrong! Special:LinkSearch. GF NOOOBS. Also, we need a bot to place it so that it's at least invisible in Recent Activity. MolMan 18:59, October 26, 2012 (UTC)
Or just any user with an AWB account, or just place it far enough in advance. Michagogo (talk) 12:56, October 28, 2012 (UTC)

Support turkey, oppose JAG - I see nothing wrong with some turkey hunting fun, but look at the issues with JAG... Something that allows a would-be hijacker a permanent pass into your account because s/he keylogged you while you were entering unmodifiable answers to unmodifiable security questions in order to allow a new device does not inspire confidence for me.

Comment - I'm fine with the Turkey one, but I am a little concerned about vandalism. Sure, we could probably protect the page and the file, but our website would have massive traffic during this event, and there would be a lot more visitors, and thus more vandalism. With the JAG one, simply, no. We might as well just advertising buying spins as well... I'm sure web traffic won't be a problem. 222 talk 06:50, October 26, 2012 (UTC)

Support turkey, oppose JAG - I'm fine with a bit of fun hunting, but I don't want to be promoting Jagex's product, which has been said to be a little bit shifty. 222 talk 06:50, October 26, 2012 (UTC)

Support turkey, neutral JAG - Gobble gobble, but there are apparently issues with JAG and we don't want to promote that, do we? User_talk:Fswe1 Fswe1 Brassica Prime symbol.png 06:55, October 26, 2012 (UTC)

Support turkey, oppose JAG - I wouldn't mind promoting an anti-hijacker feature at all, but JAG is just too riddled with holes at the moment. Ronan Talk 07:19, October 26, 2012 (UTC)

Support tryptophan-filled fowl, oppose Juicy As Guavas - Because I didn't before. But...why are YOU guys opposing JAG? I went to the article, but I didn't understand it at all. 7kyt1iT.gif --WINE OF GOOD HEALTH (Actually Stinko) 12:47, October 26, 2012 (UTC)

Support turkey, oppose JAG - The turkey event will be fun, but I think we should not promote on JAG. If there are controversies over JAG, it shouldn't be promoted by a fansite, as the articles are supposed to be neutral. Explore and enjoy the world! TIMMMO Work it with all my heart!++Discuss Sign 13:42, October 26, 2012 (UTC)

Neutral turkey, oppose JAG - I lol at "We know you guys are pushed for space on your sites". Not Wikia!!!!! :D MolMan 18:54, October 26, 2012 (UTC)

Support turkey, oppose JAG - The turkey thing sounds fun, but JAG just seems like a Bad IdeaTM for so many reasons. Do they want us to put it somewhere specific? If not, I say we put it at Tower Advisor. Michagogo (talk) 12:56, October 28, 2012 (UTC)

Support turkey, oppose JAG - We should put it on a policy page, that way we'll know they're being read. Also JAG is very buggy, and while I personally haven't experienced any problems I know of somebody who got locked out of their account cause of it What I've done Ciphrius Kane Talk 22:22, October 28, 2012 (UTC)

Support bird, oppose JAG - Cause bandwagon. WgvxeSr.png - frouZAC.png 22:49, October 28, 2012 (UTC)

Support avian, neutral JAG - Maybe put the bird on the JAG page under flaws and concerns? Blaze_fire.png12.png 13:58, October 31, 2012 (UTC)

Notice - We have agreed to the turkey scavenger hunt, and Jagex has been informed and has included us in the participating sites. We have also agreed not to take part in the promotion of JAG. More details are to come at a later date, so I'll keep this open for now. svco4bY.png3Gf5N2F.png 17:27, November 1, 2012 (UTC)

Closed - No point in the keeping of this open. svco4bY.png3Gf5N2F.png 19:49, November 13, 2012 (UTC)
