I noticed that some files have poor names that end up having to be moved, and only sysops have the ability to move images. Looking at Special:Logs I see that this happens about once a day, and can defiantly be solved quicker with a way to alert sysops like with Category:Speedy deletion candidates. I propose the following:

  1. Template:IM (Image Move) Be created (see example below)
  2. Category: Candidates for Image Move be created
  3. RuneScape:Criteria for image move be created, or something to that general effect.

Below is a possible IM template. I would like the colours to stay the same, just to shake things up from the template it is directly based on, but somebody with a nicer image-editing program than paint can fix the poor quality of the image if they wish (so long as the colours stay the same for the previously mentioned reason, unless the community feels otherwise). Comment - The colour chosen for the template is too strong and painful for the eyes. We should choose a lighter shade instead.   az talk   19:12, February 3, 2010 (UTC)

It looked fine to me, but I am viewing it on a grey background (due to custom skinning that I find easier on the eyes). I added a little more blue to shade it a bit, though I could make it lighter. Feel free to edit it, even though it is in my userspace. Magic-icon.pngStelercusIlluminated Book of Balance.png 19:38, February 3, 2010 (UTC)

Support just change the name from "IM", that sounds like IM. 99.238.39.223 03:04, February 5, 2010 (UTC)

I don't see a problem with the name IM. Magic-icon.pngStelercusIlluminated Book of Balance.png 14:40, February 5, 2010 (UTC)

Speedy move?

What if we introduce Speedy move, and instead of just images, other media and articles are included?

Then, we could use:

  1. Template:M
  2. Category:Speedy move candidates (similar to Category:Speedy deletion candidates)
  3. RuneScape:Criteria for speedy move

Anyone can move pages (except file pages), except for IPs, who we already want to get accounts anyway. Magic-icon.pngStelercusIlluminated Book of Balance.png 19:33, February 3, 2010 (UTC)
I know. But there are certain cases where [[Template:Move]] is used unnecessarily. If we had a criteria for speedy moves, we could bypass the discussion part of the move and simply move them, if they fit the criteria. Speedy moves also help IPs because not all IPs bother to create accounts.   az talk   15:53, February 4, 2010 (UTC)
Alright, sounds good. I will update the template with that now. Magic-icon.pngStelercusIlluminated Book of Balance.png 14:49, February 5, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - Sounds good generally. Do we have any kind of naming convention for image files? I am unaware of anything specific. I'd like to see a naming convention or at least some good examples before we start moving a bunch of images around only to find our naming scheme inconsistent, and then have to re-move them later. What do people think? Air rune.png Tollerach hates SoF Fire rune.png 20:16, February 3, 2010 (UTC)

The problem is with people uploading good-faith images with names like "lolololol.png" and "file_15.png" (both real examples), so the naming convention is irrelevant (I think?). Magic-icon.pngStelercusIlluminated Book of Balance.png 20:47, February 3, 2010 (UTC)
Yes, I don't see that as a problem. If we are going to take the time to rename these files shouldn't we decide on what good image names are? Having a convention would keep multiple renaming to a minimum. Sure the first uploaded name might be bad, but a least people would know what to rename it to. If there's no naming convention who's to say that the 2nd or 3rd or 4th rename is also poor and gets changed yet again. This is what a naming convention would help avoid. When a file has a name that has nothing to do with the content of the file, that's a problem for people trying to find an image that has something to do with the topic at hand. As long as the file name is related to the content of the image, I don't see a problem. Magic-icon.pngStelercusIlluminated Book of Balance.png 23:57, February 4, 2010 (UTC)

How about something simple like:

  • Contains the in-game name of the item, NPC, location, etc. featured in the image
  • Does not contain any (wiki or RuneScape) user names

That's all I'm asking for. Air rune.png Tollerach hates SoF Fire rune.png 03:41, February 5, 2010 (UTC)

Another unanimous support according to everyone. This should take editing levels to another level (no, not 99). And BTW, can you turn that image to the wiki's default skin? Green looks kind of weird with the green arrow.. Fishing.png NnK Oliver (600613) talk 03:29, February 6, 2010 (UTC)

Support in principle. Personally I don't like the name IM (since to me it says Instant Messaging), especially as it may be better to make it a more general template for use on any type of page, not just images. So something like a "request for page move" template would be better. But I think a template to request page moves would be a good idea. Why not just be bold and do it?  :-) Leevclarke talk Max_logo_mini.png bulldog_puppy.png 21:34, February 12, 2010 (UTC)

Done. Magic-icon.pngStelercusIlluminated Book of Balance.png 22:44, February 12, 2010 (UTC)

Not yet - We still have to finalise the Criteria for speedy move page/policy.   az talk   15:50, February 13, 2010 (UTC)

The criteria for a speedy move include page titles not being consistent with the style guide, a well-established policy. If a template would be useful, go ahead and create it, then add it to the appropriate section at RuneScape:Templates so other people can find it. That's what I did with the disambiguation and redirection templates. I don't think a separate RuneScape:Criteria for speedy move policy is needed (though the style guide section may need expansion), and neither is a big discussion here. But maybe someone can offer something I have not thought of.  ;-) Leevclarke talk Max_logo_mini.png bulldog_puppy.png 21:36, February 13, 2010 (UTC)

Criteria proposal

This is more or less a rough outline for what the policy should look like, as it should not simply be a bunch of bullet points.

The following are instructions as to when are when not to use Template:M to request a page or file be moved.

Files

Sometimes files are given poor names that make them difficult to use. In order to prevent issues that may arise from files being moved, only users with administrative tools may move files. If you fell the page needs to be moved and are unable to do so, you can request it be moved should it meet the following criteria.

  • If the name is not related to the subject. Common examples of this are:
    • A series of numbers (generally a default name given to an image if taken with screen-shot taking software).
    • General spam such as "lolololol", implying that the author was not considering the importance of the name.
  • Not completely relevant to the name. For example:
    • An image of a Rune Scimitar should not be called "File:Rune.PNG" because it fails to be specific enough. There are too many items in game that use the name Rune.
    • An image of a user performing an emote or modeling some armour type should not be called "File:Me.png". While the user may be in the picture, the user is not the subject nor is "Me" anywhere close to it.
Pages

There are rare occasions when users without accounts feel the need to move a page. IPs are unable to do this without an account, so they require requesting it from another user should they not be inclined to create one. Requesting page moves is acceptable should it meet the following criteria:

  • The page has been placed in the wrong namespace.
  • The page starts with a namespace title (such as Developers Blog:) when no such namespace exists.
  • There is a typo in the page name.
  • The page name is not relevant or is not fully relevant to the nature of the content, similar to the examples given above.
