Now then, in many cases (see here, 9th comment, And here in many places. There is no need for swearing, and it gives the wiki a bad image, as though if you come here you will get abused. I personally think that those who swear should be given 2 warnings then blocked for a day or so.Joe Click Here for Awesomeness10:51, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

What is it with you and making a new thread about something pointless every day? Swearing fits in with the current user treatment policy and is generally frowned upon. But since we are not a daycare, irrational punishment should not be used against those who drop the occasional swear. Cap and goggles.pngTEbuddy 11:02, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

Comment - Tebuddy, no need to be too harsh to Joe =/. I'm neutral on this issue. The way I see it, some people swear and cuss because it's a habit or it's how the express themselves. Although it can be quite rude, I don't really think we should be "controlling" everything they do. But I see where you're coming from when you say that it gives the wiki a bad image. C.ChiamTalk 11:07, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

Indeed, perhaps I was a bit harsh.Cap and goggles.pngTEbuddy 11:09, 10 April 2009 (UTC)
You seem to have something against me TEbuddy. What have I done? Swearing is not needed. Could we perhaps develop a censor so if someone types in a swear word it comes out as ****?Joe Click Here for Awesomeness11:27, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

We've already had this discussion and decided not to censor it so long as it stays off mainspace. Karlis (talk) (contribs) 11:34, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

I don't have anything against you 2+2, but your constant name changing and threads about really unnecessary changes bother me. For example, we are not a daycare nor is our userbase restricted to users under the age of 18. By implementing a filter you are controlling how people express themselves in order to keep everyone safe from the big bad adults in a fashion similar to Jagex. Everyone swears, everyone slips once in a while, and the best way to keep the image of the wiki as mature is to not make a big deal out of it and move on.Cap and goggles.pngTEbuddy 11:48, 10 April 2009 (UTC)
Err... constant name changing?Joe Click Here for Awesomeness12:02, 10 April 2009 (UTC)
Signature changing excuse me, from what I have seen it hasbeen 2+2, then joe, then ippy something, and now a picture of an egg or something. I dont want to hijack this thread so if you want to talk more about it, msg me on my talk page. Cap and goggles.pngTEbuddy 12:18, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

Oppose - we are not Jagex so there is no reason to run this wiki exactly like Jagex does. If you don't like swearing then you are more than welcome to ignore it. If someone violates the user treatment policy then they will be blocked anyways. Like Karlis said, as long as it stays off the mainspace it's fine. Andrew talk 16:59, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

Fair enough soldier, but it is unneccersary here, 9th comment. I don't feel there is any need for it.Joe Click Here for Awesomeness17:45, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

Did I say it was? No. I just said that if you don't like it then you are more than welcome to ignore it. Problem solved. Andrew talk 17:51, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

Comment - You know, I think all conversation imo can be used in full extent without having to swear or throw out an f'bomb. It is 100% not necessary to swear, ever. With that said, I don't agree in censoring it. If you have a problem with it, set an example and don't do it yourself, but limiting it from others is a violation of freedom of speech imo, and seeing these swears occurs on discussions, I legally don't see how we can control it, let alone, I don't want to.

We've already discussed this before. We are not going to censor everything people day. To be honest, I could care less if people swear on their page, so long as it is not directed at someone or intended to hurt someone. 2+2, please read the entire last YG discussion before opening this up again. We aren't here to appeal to 8 year olds who might find the word damn offensive. Karlis (talk) (contribs) 18:05, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

There's a difference between swearing and being offensive. "I had one hell of a bad day." is not offensive, whereas "Go to hell." is. It's for this reason that we can't blanket swearing, as it's completely dependand on the context. Karlis (talk) (contribs) 18:10, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

I think the first paragraph on RS:UTP covers it quite nicely. If people are being abusive, they'll get blocked. If people are dropping swears into the conversation without being hurtful, I don't see the problem. Filters or other restrictions seem a lot like censorship and I'm against that. I vote we put a censor in that replaces profane words with the word "cabbage." ~kytti khat 23:58, 11 April 2009 (UTC)

I agree with Karlis's and Tollerach's last posts. Prayer.png Jedi Talk HS Log Tracker Summoning.png 09:16, 12 April 2009 (UTC)

I haven't had a look at that discussion before because I was not here when that took place, and I don't go through all the yew grove archives. There is fair points there, but I still stand.Joe Click Here for Awesomeness15:06, 12 April 2009 (UTC)

I agree that words like damn or hell shouldn't necessarily be censored but more offensive swearwords (e.g. F*** or C***) aren't necessary to express your feelings so maybe should be censored --Serenity1137 17:15, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

Oppose - users who swear excessively already get punished. We're far more mature then Runescape's community, we can handle it. Therefore, a censor would be unnecessary. But, cabbages are always an option. Now that's a throwing weapon!Doucher4000******r4000I'll eat you! 21:15, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

Mmmmmmm....Cabbage! 22:36, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

Oppose - Swearing is ok as long as it dosen't offend anyone and its not excessive. It's not big enough of an issue to issue a censor.-- Woodcutting Talk! Quest! Timchoff Sign! Edit #Hunter 01:16, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

Oppose Like Soldier said, as long as it stays off mainspace and doesn't violate the user treatment policy, it's fine. And as D4K said, we're more mature than the RS community. And I also think that we should allow whatever words that Jagex does not censor ingame. Now I know we're not Jagex, but still... Kevin-020 01:07, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

Comment We should definetly have cabbages, it would give the site a bit of character and charisma.Joe Click Here for Awesomeness11:07, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

Request for closure, as the vast majority are in favour of swearing. I am neutral. ~ Fire Surge icon.png Sentry Telos Talk  09:13, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
