The wikifest went quite well, in my opinion. This discussion is to go over the pros and cons of it so we can have a better fest next time.

  1. I found the ability to mute the cc incredibly helpful and believe it should be kept for every fest. It made announcements much easier and will make other things easier as well in the future.
  2. I thought that global hide and seek went over better than other means of hide and seek we have tried in the past. It was more of a challenge to find people and made the event more enjoyable.
  3. Doing clan wars with another group made the event smoother and a lot more fun. Not having to split the wiki in half created more simplicity, and it was nice that we could all be on the same team. In the future, I think we should try doing the whole fest on a clan wars server and fight other clans floating around the area.
  4. Using Costume Contest sign ups made the event faster, seeing as how we did not have to go through the mess of separating f2p and p2p then looking through all of them. I hope we can use this again in the future.

I asked the winners of the costume contest to add images of their costume to the wiki. I would like to keep them hosted within the wiki itself unless anyone has major objections.

Thank you for all who attended. This was one of the most successful wikifests I have been to, thanks to all of your cooperation.

Discussion

Comment - Well, I didn't really get to attend. But from what I heard it went amazingly compared to past ones. So, good job on that guys. HaloTalk 14:04, June 6, 2010 (UTC)

Great! - It was an very well planned out event, Stel you lead the event amazingly and helped us control our emotions towards Rune HQ :p. I didn't like there attitude, I thought they were being very provoking. That specific event wasn't amazing, as we weren't prepared for the battle with food. However, the event itself was marvelous and controlled. I had so much fun in the cabbage raid, I believe we really did "own" the Grand Exchange. Well done!

Comment - I had a lot of fun while I was there (especially the Hide and Seek and Cabbage Assault). Clan Wars was well thought out, even though I didn't really contribute anything *grumble grumble*. Can't wait until the next one! The Wretched Automaton 14:14, June 6, 2010 (UTC)

Pro - You were an epic host, It's the best Wikifest I've been to for a while, my favourite part was going to the GE and everyone following me saying "OMFG ZEZIMA" eCopM0F.png. There were some dry moments during the meet n greet where alot of people were bored, maybe we could have something to do during this time? The Hide n Seek was great, having be able to hdie any where around RuneScape meant that people worked as a team to find the hider and It was great to watch. The cabbage bombing is one of my favourite parts and it was awesome, all the non-wikians were like "wtf bro". Duel Arena was bad for me, there wasn't much of a challenge for me and I let most people have a 10 minute head start eCopM0F.png I know alot of people also felt bored there, maybe this particular event was a bit too short. But overall, the best Wikifest for awhile. Really, really well done Steler.   Swizz Talk   Events!   14:17, June 6, 2010 (UTC)

I admit that the meet and greet location was not a great choice. I don't plan to run the next fest (I did not even plan to be running this fest), but I encourage the next fest chair to pick a better location. I don't really see why we have always tried to keep it out of the way, as being in the middle of some things will not be incredibly detrimental. We could try the forest north of the Air Temple. Comment - Most of the fest was awesome, however, there were two things I didn't like about it. For one thing, the costume contest was quite annoying for me, it was very hard to see who was where, the old system worked better. Second, the Duel Arena part was quite boring. It was enjoyable at first, but it was way too long. Other than those two, it was awesome, being the best wikifest I've ever been to. Good work Smile. bad_fetustalk 17:57, June 6, 2010 (UTC)

Comment—Here's a couple of images from the fest. I liked the fest this year. We just needed 30 more people for the Clan Wars event Smile I did count well over 80 people in the fest CC during hide and seek, and we had 55 or so for the clan wars event. Horsehead Talk 18:14, June 6, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - Even though I did not attend, The whole planning process seemed very well done and much more orderly than usual. Hearing people's responses to the fest now, it looks like that paid off. Stler, It sounds like you did a fantastic job! Congrats on a great fest! --Aburnett(Talk) 18:21, June 6, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - Epic fest. I agree with the other comments about the Duel Arena, though. I took a few pics and put them here. --Quarenon  Talk 18:26, June 6, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - Everything seemed to go really quite well. It was fun to fight random people at the dual arena. I saw some confusion from the costume contest from just reading what people said in the cc as I wasn't actually there. BerserkHackr 19:00, June 6, 2010 (UTC)

Notice about fest images - Fest images are allowed to be uploaded unless there are any major objections. Just make sure you add them to Category:Summer Wikifest '10. Admins, please do not delete these images. Magic-icon.pngStelercusIlluminated Book of Balance.png 00:58, June 7, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - It went really well, i think the channel muting was one of the best ideas, only bad thing was i felt we stayed at the duel arena a bit long. But it was fun and everyone behaved well. On behalf of most of the wiki i would like to thank Sterclus for making such a great wikifest.Hunter cape (t).png Sentra246Blue hallowe'en mask.png 06:42, June 7, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - Although I did not attend, due to issues with the time, I have some comments. It's good that ideas suggested quite awhile ago were finally implemented. I think it'd be better if the CC was muted full time, for reasons I have suggested elsewhere, like making it easier for the person who runs the CC, and making it easier to distinguish between announcements and spam. I look forward to future wikifests having a more variable and interesting timetable, with the abandoning of old events and new ones introduced. From the feedback I've heard, the general wikifest was more succesful than past ones, but many were annoyed at the provoking nature of RuneHQ players. I think it's good the wiki was one team this time, rather than divided. Also, I know we started this fest's organisation thread early, but yet again, things seemed organised at the last minute. We spent a few weeks on working out the colour of the sitenotice, and about 4 days on the time which brought about a lot of dissatisfaction. Also, even though the thread was public for everyone to comment and suggest, I kind of think that the main aspects of the fest were decided by individual(s). Although, it was for the better, as discussion was getting nowhere. I still stand by the idea of a Wikifest Comittee, which accepts ideas and comments from the general wiki community, while organising the fest themselves. Overall, I heard it went well though. Well done. Chicken7 >talk 07:14, June 7, 2010 (UTC)

There is no need to mute the cc full time when things worked so well without doing that. People wanted the ability to talk in the clan chat sometimes, and I do not like the idea of a bleached chat with nothing but announcements coming in every few minutes. Magic-icon.pngStelercusIlluminated Book of Balance.png 10:30, June 7, 2010 (UTC)
Comment—Stelercus or whoever had his finger on the mute button used mute at the appropriate times. I think a full-time mute would cause a ton of frustration. For example, hide-and-seek would not have been a cooperative event if members of the cc could not have called out areas they had checked as they sought the hider. Horsehead Talk 12:10, June 7, 2010 (UTC)
Comment - I disagree with how this worked. I believe that the person in charge should have been the person in charge of the CC. I forget who the owner of summerfest10 was, but it barely matters. The problem was that Steler had to call for the chat to be muted, and then wait whole minutes for the person to notice and actually do it, which really slowed down the wikifest and caused much confusion and spam, actually. If Steler had access to mute the chat it would have been much simpler. Mute, speak, unmute. Also, people who were ranked high enough in the chat to talk while it was muted, should have only spoken relevant important announcements, rather than what Brux had been doing, talking about various random things like how many cabbages he had while steler was announcing things. I am not vot, I am Melon! 17:12, June 9, 2010 (UTC)
I actually spoke to the person who was in control of the chat, who I might not disclose for various reasons, and they said it was actually quite a bit of effort to continuously mute and unmute, and Steler's calls to mute it were drowned out by the off-topic chatter. Permanently muting is the much more effective, organised and preferable option to many. Chicken7 >talk 06:06, June 10, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - Firstly, i would just like to say that this was well planned and you did a great job. This was my first wikifest and i find it hard to imagine it going much smoother. I do however think a few events need their time allotment changed slightly. E.g. Duel arena as mentioned above and i believe our stay in Fist of Guthix was a bit short.
I also think that we should incorporate some of the new tools into the fest such as the the hide and seek rings. The prize for winning the costume contest could be that the winners get to be hiders in global hide and seek. [Pharos] 07:24, June 7, 2010 (UTC)

should have read all the comments before responding, now I have two edits in a row. We tried using tools for hide and seek, but for several reasons we decided not to use them, which I can list on your talk page if your interested. Magic-icon.pngStelercusIlluminated Book of Balance.png 10:32, June 7, 2010 (UTC)
O really? Sorry, didn't see, who already said this comment?. Btw could you post them? I'd like to know. [Pharos] 12:27, June 7, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - This is my second wikifest, and seems that this wikifest is way better than the last one. I have some comments:

  • Timetable stated that hide & seek players shouldn't use teleports but since the area is very large, I have to use cabbage-port anyway. Should we allow teleports? Only cabbage-port, falador teleport (for the people that don't have explorer's ring 3), ring of kinship (then ship to al-kharid)?
  • Hide & seek should have a map that plot the boundaries and list underground areas that is not allowed. Some places, even in the main f2p area have agressive monster like the Dwarven mine, Draynor Jail, Earth Altar should not be allowed and this where the map would be handy.
  • Duel arena is too long, and Fist of Guthix is too short.
  • Since we don't need to line up in the costume contest, why not use that time for something else? I suggest that we should encourage free players to lend out items to members in this time.
  • The starting area is too narrow and there's white knight walking around that might kill some lv3 players. Maybe Rimmington next time?
  • The clan war was really fun, but the next time we should disallow food from start since most of use do not use food anyway. Also, I suggest that we should use multicombat maps only. In the last game I can stand still for a minute without being attacked.
  • Last, there're too few players in Dungeoneering. Maybe some of us moved to W28 or go to FFA Clan Wars. I suggest that we should cut Dungeoneering from the timetable.
  • I support that we should move to Clan Wars world.

Absolutely Great - This was my second wikifest, and I think it was very well organised. Steler, you did a great job leading the fest, and I had plenty of fun (especially at the cabbage pwn). Amazing job! I'm a regular user and I approve this message.  TLUL Talk - Contribs 23:57, June 7, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - Were you even there? I don't remember seeing you there. I am not vot, I am Melon! 17:12, June 9, 2010 (UTC)
Tlul was there the whole fest during most of the fest, with an ooo. bad_fetustalk 18:13, June 9, 2010 (UTC)
Incorrect Chess, I was there from the cabbage pwn through to Fist of Guthix. I had the Orb of Oculus going most of that time, and recorded roughly two hours of footage. I'm a regular user and I approve this message.  TLUL Talk - Contribs 01:56, June 10, 2010 (UTC)
Meh, fixed. bad_fetustalk 10:35, June 10, 2010 (UTC)

Question - Who won Clan Wars? 222 talk 10:38, June 10, 2010 (UTC)

Rhq won the first two battles, I left after the second one though. I'm pretty sure that rhq won the others too. bad_fetustalk 11:02, June 10, 2010 (UTC)
That's correct, RHQ won all of them. --Quarenon  Talk 11:30, June 10, 2010 (UTC)
Noo! How can that happen? Was it because of numbers or tactics? 222 talk 07:44, June 11, 2010 (UTC)
Numbers.bad_fetustalk 15:06, June 11, 2010 (UTC)
I wasn't at the Clan Wars event but I bet the only tactic was to run in and just try get a kill.   Swizz Talk   Events!   16:19, June 11, 2010 (UTC)
That was their tactic. We stayed at t3h p0rtal. bad_fetustalk 13:45, June 12, 2010 (UTC)
They also had food in the first two as said above. Lol I can remember getting teamed on 2v6 at one point. [Pharos] 13:55, June 12, 2010 (UTC)

It was fun - It was my first so I have nothing to base it on, but it was fun (except when we got out butts handed to us by RHQ). Full Slayer Helmet! Evil1888 Talk A's L Dragon Platebody! 12:00, June 10, 2010 (UTC)

After comment - Thank you to all those who attended. I will be looking for somebody to run the next fest, though I will work with that user to ensure some of the ideas brought up in this thread are implemented in the next fest.
