I propose an additional section to RuneScape:Style guide. There are lots of articles that contain statements to relative time using the word "recently" and similar things. Stamping out all the relative terms could take a while, but we should at least agree and declare that they're evil.

==Time references==

Prefer specific statements of time by date, including year, to general ones (e.g., currently, recent, recently, soon). Articles should always contain current information, so there should be no reason to specify that it is current, unless there is some expectation that it could change.

For example, avoid statements like "Jagex recently released Ironman mode" or "Jagex released Ironman mode last October." Statements could remain in place for years. Instead write statements like "Jagex released Ironman mode in October 2014."

Also avoid statements like "Players currently choose Ironman mode during account creation." Instead write statements like "Players choose Ironman mode during account creation."

When there is some expectation that Jagex will significantly change some part of the game, it is acceptable to write statements like "Ironman accounts cannot currently play many minigames." As Jagex updates the game, articles should continually be amended with the changes, anyway.

Furthermore, seasons occur at different times around the world. Instead of referring to seasons, use months, quarters, or other terms which do not assume the player is north (or south) of the equator.

It should probably go just before or just after the section on date format.

Support - as author. --Saftzie (talk) 11:42, June 29, 2015 (UTC)

Mostly support - I agree with everything except the one about seasons, which I don't really care about. Jagex will usually reference seasons based on what they experience. As we're already accustomed to using British this and British that, I don't have a problem with assuming Northern hemisphere for everything. MolMan 12:02, June 29, 2015 (UTC)

Support - Mol has a point though. User_talk:Fswe1 Fswe1 Brassica Prime symbol.png 06:16, July 1, 2015 (UTC)

Support - To pick up on the season issue, are there any examples of where seasons are used in our content? And is that a reflection of how Jagex added the content (Summer/Winter games for example)? cqm 07:59, 1 Jul 2015 (UTC) (UTC)

Off the top of my head, I'm not aware of any seasonal references in articles, other than ones directly quoting Jagex, but I haven't gone looking for any, either. It's not a complicated condition, and it seems simple enough not to wait for a problem. --Saftzie (talk) 22:34, July 1, 2015 (UTC)

Support - It really confuses me when people state in articles that something happened "recently". As per a recent (Ha!) YG thread about Ironman accounts and certain items, the proposing user stated that "Jagex recently added both it and HCIM modes". What constitutes as "recent" for some? What doesn't? Seriously, let's just do away with the term on the wiki when it comes to time-based info. 7kyt1iT.gif --WINE OF GOOD HEALTH (Actually Stinko) 01:31, July 7, 2015 (UTC)

Support - except for the seasons part, per Mol. 5-x Talk 15:38, July 8, 2015 (UTC)

Support - Including the seasons part. Just use quarters. Temujin 10:23, July 10, 2015 (UTC)

Closed - The style guide will be updated with this section, excepting the seasons paragraph. --LiquidTalk 22:31, July 11, 2015 (UTC)
