Proposal: Define a case style for the style guide to be used across the wiki when referring to skill-based points such as those used in Prayer and Summoning.

Across the wiki, the capitalisation of the words "prayer points" and "summoning points" vary. This is due to the style guide calling for references to skills to be capitalised as a proper noun wherever they are not used as a verb (mining an ore) or used as a generalised noun (activate a prayer).

This leads to ambiguous cases such as "Prayer points" and "prayer points" being used interchangeably even on their own page.

Examples

Even in-game, the style of these phrases change.

Example [1] Source
You already have full summoning points. Renew-points at an obelisk with full points
You have recharged your summoning points. Renew-points at an obelisk with some used points
You already have full prayer points. Praying at an altar with full points
You recharge your Prayer points. Praying at an altar with some used points
You have run out of prayer points. You can recharge at an altar. Running out of points whilst using prayers
It restores 1200 life points. Eating food
Restores  247 prayer points Prayer potion tooltip
Restores  245 summoning points Super restore potion tooltip
… and your Prayer Points are restored. Pulse core boost
… and your lifepoints are healed. Pulse core boost
More prayer points! Level up pop up

Proposals

As members of the wiki, we unanimously decide reach a consensus on a style to add to the style guide.

The first option is to always capitalise the skill name. The alternative is to always lower-case the skill unless referring to the skill on it's own.

Note: Currently on the wiki, life points are consistently lower-case unless at the start of a sentence (and written as two words). Because of this, it has been omitted from the vote here.

Subject Option 1:
Capitalise by skill
Option 2:
Lower-case
Option 3:
Context
Prayer points You recharge your Prayer points. You recharge your prayer points.
Summoning points You have recharged your Summoning points. You have recharged your summoning points.

Discussion

Support option 2 Option 3 could be avoided simply by rearranging the sentence. Option 2 is also supported by the naming convention of Herblore's skill potions. Guthix symbol.png 4madnessTalk 00:58, 12 February 2019 (UTC)

Support option 2, except when quoting verbatim from the game - jayden 01:01, 12 February 2019 (UTC)

Support option 1 You're referring to the skill in these cases, so it should be capitalised. Small recharge gem.png AnselaJonla Slayer-icon.png 01:02, 12 February 2019 (UTC)

Support Option 2, Except direct quoting - As such, You can use the.. Comment thing that it's directly taken from game. Twig Talk 772kZGs.png 01:24, 12 February 2019 (UTC)

I assume you are referring to the [sic] template Guthix symbol.png 4madnessTalk 23:53, 14 February 2019 (UTC)

Uhhh - "As members of the wiki, we unanimously decide on a style to add to the style guide."

For matters of style the chances of a unanimous decision is basically zero.

Also, I personally like capitalizing proper nouns so I prefer option 1. --LiquidTalk 02:00, 12 February 2019 (UTC)

I agree with the poor choice of wording and have updated as such. Guthix symbol.png 4madnessTalk 23:53, 14 February 2019 (UTC)

Support option 1 - Per Ansela, but of course when text is verbatim, leave it verbatim. ;) Farming-icon.png Salix of Prifddinas (Talk) Prifddinas lodestone icon.png 19:24, 12 February 2019 (UTC)

Support Option 2 EXCEPT direct quotes - Following Jayden. RuneMetrics icon.png Tyler JarretTalkLight animica.png 22:26, 12 February 2019 (UTC)

Regarding quoting verbatim - Do we want to standardise the use of {{RSFont}} for quoting or simply use {{Sic}}? Guthix symbol.png 4madnessTalk 23:53, 14 February 2019 (UTC)

Support 1 - Unless verbatim - Cuxrie (talk) 02:39, 15 February 2019 (UTC)

Oppose all - Consistency isn't always necessary. Not every smallest detail needs to be specified in the style guide, especially if there's no official or prevalent way to capitalise these in-game. This matter can be left ambiguous and capitalisation can differ in different contexts. Problem solved... even though there was no problem to begin with. 5-x Talk 19:42, 16 February 2019 (UTC)

Same as Tyler - per Jayden. User talk:ThePsionic.png: RS3 Inventory image of User talk:ThePsionic ThePsionic Special:Contributions/ThePsionic.png: RS3 Inventory image of Special:Contributions/ThePsionic 14:39, 17 February 2019 (UTC)

Closed - There is consensus to use verbatim text from the game where applicable. As far as option 1 vs option 2, the community seems to be almost evenly split, so there is no consensus and the status quo will remain. For clarity, if a dispute arises in the future regarding appropriate style, and the text is not quoting Jagex verbatim, the status quo formatting as of today should be used. --LiquidTalk 02:56, 23 February 2019 (UTC)
