Forum:Store Survey Wikiguild
I'm trying to draw attention to the Story Survey Wikiguild
I left the idea idle for the past several months... mainly because I wanted to get some additional feedback from everybody and not try to upset the applecart by making massive changes without trying to at first achieve consensus. After seeing this sit idle for awhile, I've decided to push forward and try to improve the shop articles on the wiki and put in some more links, and generally improve the quality of the information we have on each item in the game as well.
At the moment, I'm going through Varrock and trying to identify and update the information about all of the stores there... both F2P information and P2P. I have also received some help from User:Oil4 who has been updating the Template:Shops template to include shops found in other cities. Any help on at least reviewing the store articles, adding them to this template, or verifying prices would be substantially appreciated. I'm also trying to gather the prices for what shops will purchase items from players for (often low alch values, but not always) and I've created a new template system that will also include the GE prices in the stock listing. See Horvik's Armour Shop for an example of how I've reworked the stock display. BTW, this is a good way to spot some money making ideas such as at Zaff's Superior Staves that shows the GE price higher than the stock price for a couple of items.
There is also some discussion regarding what might qualify for a shop to be included within the scope of this project. It certainly is at least some discussion worthy of some wider input, even if you aren't necessarily interested in doing the heavy lifting to help gather this data and organize it. Continuing that discussion on this thread instead of on the template talk page would be just fine.
The long-term goal of this project is to identify and fully document each and every potential source of goods within the game that can even remotely be considered a "shop". As per RS:GRAN each shop does deserve its own article. --Robert Horning 22:57, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

- ???? --- please explain. The link is not clear. --Robert Horning 23:57, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
Comment - I have a database of shop items that I scraped from one of the fansites. The database has about 372 "shops" (which includes actual shops, NPCs who sell, NPCs who buy, etc.) and about 3,000 "items". (Some "items" are not really items; since some NPCs provide experience and services in exchange for coins). I obtained the buy and sell prices from that fansite, so I'm not certain of their accuracy.
Robert, if you're interested with this database, contact me at my talk page. I'll dump the data whenever you want.16:34, 27 August 2009 (UTC)
September 2nd, 2009 Store Update
Nearly all of the work that as been done to day on the stores may have just been undone by Jagex again. Boy, have they stepped in it big time, and it is going to get some protests... at least from some quarters.
For those not familiar with what has just happened, the shops are going back to limited stock again. This is also going to substantially impact the Grand Exchange in a number of ways on a whole bunch of items. More significantly, at least for this Wikiguild project, nearly every store is going to have to be re-evaluated and have its prices re-examined and now note how much stock is available at each store.
To quote from the update:
"As of today, shops in RuneScape are now personalised for every player. The amount of stock you see in each shop is now unique to your account and, therefore, no longer affected by the actions of other players."
I'll editorialize about this on the "tavern" section of the forums, but this is going to be a huge change economically for Runescape. --Robert Horning 13:02, September 2, 2009 (UTC)
- And all images and maps have to be re-taken. Oil4 Talk 14:39, September 2, 2009 (UTC)
- It's update year; what else do you expect? 15:34, September 2, 2009 (UTC)
- Please... it has been nearly two years since stores had this drastic of a change to how shops operated, and it is highly unusual for an entire category of articles needing to be redone in such a manner. More to the point, even with the HD update the earlier images were valid, even if outdated. At the moment, all of the store stock images are not only out dates, but obsolete and giving false information (compared to the current state of the game). --Robert Horning 19:25, September 2, 2009 (UTC)
- I would like to help with doing this work, just look at the proposal page. 20:04, September 2, 2009 (UTC)
