Forum:Starting a new page?
Hello all. I had a nice idea for a page, which i had started up, and was quickly deleted. This somehow made no sense to me and quite frankly seemed to go completely against what these wikis are created for. How does one go about to getting a page up without having 2 people fry your idea within 5 minutes? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Sonomaslim (talk).
- Well first, the article has to be on the topic of the wikia. Since this is the RuneScape wikia, if you created an article on Halo 3, it would be deleted. It should also not be a personal / clan, as those can go in the userpage. It also can not be against the Wikia's policies. ~MuzTalk 23:24, 24 March 2009 (UTC)
What was your page, because your contributions show no such thing. Also the page was either spam, not need, or against wiki rules. --23:31, 24 March 2009 (UTC)
The page was for noted drops. Listed by item and what creatures drop them in sorted by number dropped. Personally I think this would be an invaluable page. let me know what you think —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Sonomaslim (talk).
Well, I don't really see the need for that article. If you feel like doing more helpful contributions though, you should probaly create an account , its not like they sell your email or it costs money or something. --23:39, 24 March 2009 (UTC)
Don't see a need? Do you have all monster drops memorized? Say you're a poor noob who wants to do some skilling and doesn't have the gold to buy up everything from the GE. You log in find the item you need and bam list of monster drops that u can hunt down, not only conserving your gold but adding a little battle xp. Sonomaslim 00:12, 25 March 2009 (UTC)
- We have Mmg:s for "poor noobs" that "doesn't have the gold to buy up everything from the GE". I think it is appropriate enough in the situation. Also, remember: the admins do not generally delete new articles out of malice - They are obliged to follow strict policies. However, if you think your articles deserve mention, be bold and strike up a conversation with the admin. Sometimes getting a point of view from 'the other side' can prove invaluable. 08:40, 25 March 2009 (UTC)
Ok maybe it was a bit of a useless article, but I think that the Admin should at least tell the person who created it first, or just put the speedy deletion template on it. I mad a page once which i thought was quite good, it took me a while, and then when I saved it Stinkowing immediatley deleted it and said: "It is no use to anyone, and would be better suited as a category. Use your brain.". So I think that admins should be a bit softer, remember RS:AGF. Discuss it with them, maybe get a consensus.--Joe Click Here for Awesomeness14:21, 26 March 2009 (UTC)
That article seemed little useless (drops are found in monster/item pages). If your page is deleted, the reason is often given in the deletion log (except in obvious vandalism). If the reason seems wrong, contact the admin. I think you should use the Yew Grove if you can't get a consensus between the sysop. dictature 14:37, 26 March 2009 (UTC)
I actually do see a use for this kind of information, the page you started on the other hand isn't the best place to put it just because of organization and the massive size the article would be. The vast majority of item pages don't list all the drops (some of them don't list any), so the best place to put this information is on the item page or a subpage of it.03:43, 27 March 2009 (UTC)
