According to Special:Whatlinkshere/Template:Disambig, we have about 1,100 disambiguation pages. Of these, 169 have "(disambiguation)" in the title, and the rest do not. Compare hybrid top with bottle of blood (disambiguation).

I say we pick one format or another and stick with it. Either we include (disambiguation) in the page title or we don't.

Discussion[edit source]

Support - They're disambig pages, aren't they? Why don't they have this in the first place? S T Y G 04:44, December 26, 2011 (UTC)

You should probably specify which option that Andorin proposed that you are supporting. Suppa chuppa Talk 04:45, December 26, 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, this. Also, grumble grumble something about edit conflicts. --Andorin (Talk) (Contribs) 04:46, December 26, 2011 (UTC)
I think it's fair to say that he's saying that they should have (disambiguation), considering "Why don't they have this in the first place?" implies that they should have something that they are currently lacking. Matt (t) 06:16, December 26, 2011 (UTC)

Case by case - The reason some have (disambiguation) in the title and some don't, or at least the way I see it, is because for some items, like the Bottle of Blood, there is an item with that exact name, but there are also a lot of items that are very similar to it. A person wanting information about one of the similar items might type in the specific name of the original item, and because both pages, that being the item page and the disambiguation, have to exist, adding (disambiguation) to the title is a clear and simple way of setting them apart. However, with some disambiguation pages, like hybrid top, there isn't an item with that exact name, but hybrid top is a good generalisation of very similar items. Basically what I'm trying to say is that I feel that (disambiguation) should only be added to the title when there is an item with the same name, and not be added when there isn't. Adding it always is unnecessary in the event that there isn't an item with the same name, and could also potentially cause confusion if someone assumed there was an article with an exact name that there wasn't. In the regard of never adding it, we'd still have to have some standard for differentiating disambiguation pages with the same name as other items from their articles regardless. The only thing I could see to get around that would be to change the titles to something that an item isn't called, which may restrict the pages' accessibility, visibility, etc.. Just my two cents. Comment - RuneScape:Disambiguation#Naming_the_disambiguation_page - this is our current policy regarding disambiguation page names What I've done Ciphrius Kane Talk 20:07, December 26, 2011 (UTC)

Also just want to say that the system is working fine as it is using the above policy, so I oppose any changes What I've done Ciphrius Kane Talk 20:10, December 26, 2011 (UTC)

Oppose - The policy is very clear on the issue. Ronan Talk 12:39, December 27, 2011 (UTC)

Oppose - There are some cases when it might be good to include the (disambiguation), and some cases when it might not be. I think the policy page explains it well. Smithing (talk | contribs) 17:05, December 27, 2011 (UTC)

Oppose + Suggestion - I don't know; I personally thought the current wording of the policy needs a little clarification and rewording. I don't think it's specific enough. Chicken7 >talk 13:57, January 6, 2012 (UTC)

What do you suggest instead? Matt (t) 08:43, January 10, 2012 (UTC)
I've attempted to clarify the examples in the policy. Chicken7 >talk 04:38, January 14, 2012 (UTC)

Support - Adding disambig to the title will help you tell whether or not it's a disambig page or not. Just personal opinion, but it would help me out. --- Zamorak godsword detail.png techguy1001Talk 23:58, January 12, 2012 (UTC)

Closed - The policy appears to be clear on this issue. Users are able to tell if a page is a disambig or not by looking for the template. No action will be taken. Chicken7 >talk 04:05, January 15, 2012 (UTC)
