I've been working on the Treasure room article for a while now, and I noticed that, when placing inventory images (like Bones.png) they all have... kind of a different size, which makes the table look less tidy.

Example of 2 different sizes: ---Oak door icon.png-Steel-plated door icon.png-- (In this case, the second one is 30x34)

I replaced some of them (Bones, Red dye, Skull) with a same image, but with the same size (which is, in this case, 30x34) Are there any rules for this, or should we make a standard size? If done, I would love to help replacing all (well, maybe not áll) inventory items. This would improve the look of more articles a lot.

Update:

  • The size of normal inventory items would be 32x32.
  • The size of constructed items in inventory would be 30x34.
  • The size of pets in inventory would be 34x34.

, as the items in the Runescape Database are this size, so it's easier to replace them.

Discussion

Support - The different sizes of images make some articles and especially tables look very messy. I think a standard size for them would be a great improvement. Ancient talisman.png Oil4 Talk 14:18, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

Comment - If we could get a standard size that would be great, but can we actually get one? Quest.png Gaz Lloyd 7:^]Events!99s 15:38, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

Support - Consistency is generally a good thing. 32x32 is a good size to use as well, but maybe I say that because it's a standard Windows icon size :p --Quarenon  Talk 16:00, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

Comment- We should have them exactly as tehy appear in the inventory, cropped down to as small as possible while keeping the whole image there. Like the bunny's head in my signature. http://img268.imageshack.us/img268/3921/thehimmemote.pngGone. 19:50, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

Comment - Those images are exactly the same size, they just need cropped. Crop them the same and so the image is as small as possilbe and the two will be consistent. When forming a chart with inventory items I think they are already a standard size so they can fit in the item list on the game neatly. As long as they are cropped appropriately, I don't see why we need to resize them when Jagex already does it.

Comment - Maybe the doors were a bad example, but take a look at this:

Item Level Materials Experience
Demon icon.png Lesser demon 75 Coins 1.png x 750,000 coins 707 xp
Tok-Xil (player-owned house) icon.png Tok-Xil 85 Coins 1.png x 5,000,000 coins 2236 xp
Steel dragon (player-owned house) icon.png Steel dragon 95 Coins 1.png x 10,000,000 coins 3162 xp

As you can see, the cropped version of the Tok-Xil still takes lots more space than the tiny lesser demon head. I resized the steel dragon to match with the Tok-Xil. But the demon line is still thinner, which can really bother me :-P Miasmic Blitz icon.png Hapi007 Talk! Sign! . 05:58, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

Strong oppose I totally disagree with the idea of a standard size. Every image on this wiki should be perfectly cropped so that there is no white space around the image itself. When tabulated the rows will not all be of standard height, but this is a really small advantage. Consider for example if someone uses an image in their signature - white space at the top or bottom of an image could be a significant problem. If you really do want to have the rows in tables of uniform heights, it is easily possible by specifying the height of each row, and allowing the image to be vertically aligned within it. For example, look at this table with each row (except the headings) at a fixed 100 pixels high:

Item Level Materials Experience
Demon icon.png Lesser demon 75 Coins 1.png x 750,000 coins 707 xp
Tok-Xil (player-owned house) icon.png Tok-Xil 85 Coins 1.png x 5,000,000 coins 2236 xp

Just make sure that the height you specify is at least the height of the tallest image, and every row will be the same height. This is a much better solution than padding out the images themselves. Leevclarke talk Max_logo_mini.png bulldog_puppy.png 09:00, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

Comment - Yes, that could work better than resizing all the images. Changing all tables would probably also be easier than changing all images. Ancient talisman.png Oil4 Talk 09:12, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
Comment - Uuhm not really, it's easier to only replace the images which áre used in a table (like Pets) Miasmic Blitz icon.png Hapi007 Talk! Sign! . 09:25, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
What about something like this, just splitting the Materials column into two columns (one for an image and one for the text), just as the Item column already has been:
Item Level Materials Experience
Demon icon.png Lesser demon 75
Pie.png
x 8 apple pies 707 xp
White candle.png Kalphite Soldier 80
Iron spear.png
x 750,000 iron spears 866 xp
Tok-Xil (player-owned house) icon.png Tok-Xil 85
White candle.png
x 888 white candles 2236 xp
I maintain that the layout and formatting of tables is much better performed in the code of the table, and not in padding the images. Leevclarke talk Max_logo_mini.png bulldog_puppy.png 09:40, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
Good idea, but it probably would get tóo busy when more materials are needed:
Item Level Materials Experience
Demon icon.png Lesser demon 75
Pie.png
x 8 apple pies
Pie.png
x 8 apple pies 707 xp
White candle.png White candle 80
Iron spear.png
x 750,000 iron spears
Iron spear.png
x 750,000 iron spears 866 xp
Tok-Xil (player-owned house) icon.png Tok-Xil 85
White candle.png
x 888 white candles
White candle.png
x 888 white candles
White candle.png
x 888 white candles 2236 xp

And it's also glitching horrible (don't know if you can see it) Miasmic Blitz icon.png Hapi007 Talk! Sign! . 10:03, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

Why are there three colums saying the same thing? Is that the glitch you mean? Ancient talisman.png Oil4 Talk 10:25, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
Nah, that's just an example. The glitch I'm talking about is this:
glitchpng2.png

the X goes over the borders, and the 2 boxes above the candles don't match. Miasmic Blitz icon.png Hapi007 Talk! Sign! . 10:37, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

It displays fine for me - I use Firefox, if that helps.  ;-) Leevclarke talk Max_logo_mini.png bulldog_puppy.png 10:51, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
Looks fine for me too. I'm also using Firefox. Ancient talisman.png Oil4 Talk 10:54, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
I use fire fox also, maybe you happen to use a different browser? Santa hat.png Powers38 おはようヾ(´・ω・`) 11:01, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
The glitching doesn't happen for me in IE8 on this table, can anyone else confirm?
Item Level Materials Experience
Demon icon.png Lesser demon 75 Pie.png x 8 apple pies 707 xp
White candle.png Kalphite Soldier 80 Iron spear.png x 750,000 iron spears 866 xp
Tok-Xil (player-owned house) icon.png Tok-Xil 85 White candle.png x 888 white candles 2236 xp

I moved the center alignment from the image to the table cell. --Quarenon  Talk 12:25, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

Support Lee's way - Enlarging the table seems to work fine instead of cropping about over 100 images and such. Santa hat.png Powers38 おはようヾ(´・ω・`) 11:01, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

Support Lee's Suggestion - A lot eaisier to do then manually reszing every inventory image... just to add blank space. In regards to the glitch, I don't see it (Opera, Vista). Quest.png Gaz Lloyd 7:^]Events!99s 13:36, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

Support Lee's Suggestion - Templates will not have a problem with this. Zig 06:43, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

comment - Updated the Guardian & Treasure chest tables in Treasure room article, to Lee's suggestion. However, I still think that resizing the images (which I did on that same page) still looks better. Miasmic Blitz icon.png Hapi007 Talk! Sign! . 15:23, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
The glitch doesn't turn up in FireFox. I tried Internet Explorer 7, and that does show the glitch. This might be a problem, as many people use IE. Ancient talisman.png Oil4 Talk 18:47, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

Support Lee's idea - Seems to me that this is easier to implement. As long as the glitch Hapi mentioned doesn't turn up too often. Ancient talisman.png Oil4 Talk 07:57, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

Support Lee - Per above  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Serenity1137 (talk).
