Right everyone! We are now a silver level fansite, acording to Jagex, and I have read through the quota and we have about all of the things needed to be a platinum level fansite, exept one - we have ads for games besides RuneScape. If we want to improve our status and reap the rewards such as concept art, we need to drop the ads. Cabbage detail.png Dockywho Talk Cabbage detail.png 17:16, April 26, 2010 (UTC)

Discussion

Comment - This have been discussed several times, and there is nothing we can do about it right now. bad_fetustalk 17:23, April 26, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - as no one here owns the site we don't have a huge say in what ads go up and what ads don't, but reporting ads don't hurt Full Slayer Helmet! Evil1888 Talk A's L Dragon Platebody! 17:25, April 26, 2010 (UTC)

I feel its a bit greedy to have that as a criteria Full Slayer Helmet! Evil1888 Talk A's L Dragon Platebody! 17:27, April 26, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - Once again, Wikia's working on the ads. Mark (talk) 17:40, April 26, 2010 (UTC)

Unfortunatly, as a for-profit company, the ads are required for them to stay in business. Nice to know that they are working on getting more topic-specific and appropriate ads though. Ajraddatz Talk 17:43, April 26, 2010 (UTC)

In that case, I will write to Jagex asking for an exeption. Cabbage detail.png Dockywho Talk Cabbage detail.png 18:39, April 26, 2010 (UTC)

No, please don't. Wikia and Jagex are already in contact and are working on removing the ads, please don't mail Jagex. Mark (talk) 19:01, April 26, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - the only thing we could possibly do is to report "offending" advertisements to Wikia, and perhaps to organize a group like the CVU that would help in a coordinated effort to do that reporting in conjunction with Wikia and perhaps some of the other major wikis on Wikia. For myself, I think the advertisement restriction that Jagex is asking for is over the top. Jagex will eventually recognize us for our size and who we are, or as the saying goes "Guthix doesn't go to the mountains, the mountains come to Guthix" (or your favorite deity/prophet in there instead). I guess some sort of common sense is already breaking out here. --Robert Horning 22:03, April 26, 2010 (UTC)

I agree. Even if our CAU (Counter Advertisement Unit Lol) doesn't help the ad situation at all, it looks like we're at least attempting to limit the ads (As the criteria is to actively control ads). I'd support some kind of Unit for this (new section?) Chicken7 >talk 05:36, April 27, 2010 (UTC)
Do we currently actually have an ad reporting policy?? For the past 3 days I keep on seeing an ad for a botting website (with the awesome name of "robotsindisguize" Lol) and I don't know how to handle it. Unicorn horn dust.png Evil Yanks talk 06:57, April 27, 2010 (UTC)
There is a general ad reporting policy with Wikia, but it is sort of convoluted and certainly not well organized. I am suggesting that perhaps we could put something together, and we may even be able to enlist some help for a more general ad reporting group that comes from some of the other major wiki groups like the Wookiepedia and World of Warcraft Wiki. I'm sure there are some common problems (like the Evony ads) that violate good taste. Should this be a whole new wiki, or do we perhaps even need some new tools? The main thing is to somehow get the message to Wikia that there are some problems, and more importantly get some feedback to those doing the reporting that some sort of action has happened with those reports. I've made some reports to Wikia, but the vacuum of silence is deafening coming from Wikia that I have no idea if any action is happening, and that sort of discourages me from making any future reports. The reporting of problematic advertisements can be improved substantially. --Robert Horning 12:31, April 27, 2010 (UTC)
About this new group/wiki to report ads, I like the idea. Although, if you try to organise it with Wikia, I am fairly sure they'd attempt to make it another job of the VSTF - Volunteer Spam Task Force. See http://vstf.wikia.com/ Chicken7 >talk 14:04, April 27, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - *Sigh*, we've discussed this at least three times now. No need to start another thread just because you came in late. Wikia and Jagex are trying to be flexible with each other, just be patient. We can't just get on Jagex's gold/platinum side over night.
