Currently, quest guides have the quest requirements collapsed by default (see Birthright of the Dwarves). My understanding is that this is because some quests have so many requirements, especially when considering prereq's prereqs, that it would make the section unwieldy. However, this makes it quite easy to skip over the quest requirements completely when looking at the page. This is especially easy to do when the quest has skill requirements or quest requirements outside of the collapsed section (see A Fairy Tale I - Growing Pains), as their positioning as list elements makes it look like the section is already expanded. Since the primary use of these pages is to help people figure out if/how they can complete the quest, the prereqs for the quest seem relevant enough to me that they should be unhidden by default.

I propose expanding the quest prereqs section by default. The capability to reduce the depth of quest reqs already exists if needed, as can be seen on Sliske's Endgame.

Support showing 1 level by default - The Fairy Tale example is absolutely misleading: adxGrG8.png

This really makes it look like there's only 1 quest requirement. The guide should show the first level requirements by default, and clicking expand could show the nested dependencies. Riblet15 (talk) 21:00, 19 December 2021 (UTC)

"clicking expand could show the nested dependencies" -- Are you suggesting that some JS (or CSS) magic gets created to show/hide the sub-levels within the existing list? Or that the existing collapsed questreq stuff gets duplicated in a second list below, e.g. like this (with the second "Quests:" altered to indicate it's a more expansive copy of the preceding list)? Support Vehemently oppose because light-mode screenshot - Big fan of always showing show-stopper info such as the inability to start a quest without having fulfilled a direct requirement. Also a big fan of still offering a more fully-expanded (at least up to a couple of levels in cases like Sliske's Endgame where it can get ridiculous otherwise) list hidden behind a "[show]" click. Support - this is fundamental information to the user and it should be clearly visible. I think first level showing on default with a show option which will further expand to deeper levels of requirements would be ideal (per Riblet). Can I also interest you in possibly implementing the related outcome of Forum:Skill requirements for quests: include previous skill requirements seperately along with this? Support - Definitely for expanding the hard requirements. Probably keep the recommended requirements for story comprehension and full rewards collapsed but don't mind if it is or isn't. Robert571 (talk) 17:42, 21 December 2021 (UTC)

Support - Showing the first level by default, with a show more option. The implementation to expand them in the existing list shouldn't be too hard, just need to add a class to the <li> element and then have the js add another, and use css for the hiding/showing and transition. I mean, the recommended quests use the same code as the required ones, so why make them different. You can still auto-collapse the list, but you could still make it first level and give it the option to open the ones below it. Support - Showing at least 1 level of the hard quest requirements brings the best balance between not hiding essential info from readers and showing numerous duplicate quests as requirements. Shayani (talk) 19:01, 27 December 2021 (UTC)
