Note: See the edit below the paragraph.

The last few days while signing talk pages my signature, which contains a link to my Hiscores has been giving me the "to avoid automated users linking to other sites please type the word listed" or something like that. Never really paid attention to it mind you, all I paid attention to is basically it stating "No! You can't have a link to runescape in your sig! Type this word to enter the random comment on a talk page!" Now I can understand if it's on an article and you post an external link, however if it's in your signature, and to runescape, why should it? You're not supposed to post signatures on articles so it's going to be significantly less seen, even if you could you'd think it'd be obvious that they were automated and trying to get people to view whatever is linked in their signature when they edit an article every 2 seconds just putting their signature. Needless to say I can see why so few of the signatures I've seen contain hiscore links im getting sick of my sig and it's new. My suggestion: If possible, It shouldn't be required to have to have to prove you're not automated just to sign on a talk page or some such page when your signature contains a link to the game site. Even if this is something wikia staff is in charge of surely we could get in contact with them and tell them about this? Think about it a theoretical Google wikia and you couldn't have a link to the homepage of Google and you couldn't have a link to the Google in your signature there without thinking you're automated when you sign a talk page. A silly example I know but it still stands, my point is it boggles the mind that if wikia staff did this how come, obviously a "runescape wikia" should be allowed to link to runescape if they wanted to. Oh the irony I go to post this and the dreaded message appears. Korasi's sword.png Archmage Elune  TalkHS Void knight deflector.png fetus is my son and I love him. 08:27, December 26, 2009 (UTC)

Edit: As it was pointed out to me White listing jagex.com and runescape.com would prove all the above overly long. In short there is very little on the site which is unrelated to the game and therefore by extension the wiki. Any thing that could be deemed "inappropriate" on either would most likely be swiftly removed by a moderator. In short very helpful. Discussion

  • Comment - The issue you have here is one of external links. It is possible to whitelist specific links so this message doesn't come up, and there are some sites that are included in our current whitelist that also permit images to be imported into the wiki (its main purpose). The main problem is links to Viagra websites and other similar kinds of spurious links that are to completely unrelated to playing this game. If, however, you would like to propose that "runescape.com" and "jagex.com" be added to the whitelist, that may be a legitimate proposal to permit the issue you mention above from working but still give a warning if you give a link to say "slashdot.org" or "cnn.com". We don't necessarily need Wikia staff to do this, although I think I'm the only admin on this wiki who has messed with the whitelist before. Whitelisting also gets rid of the little arrows next to the link. There are some other side-effect to whitelisting a site, so it isn't something to be done on a whim. --Robert Horning 14:59, December 26, 2009 (UTC)
Thank you for clearing that up for me, as I'm still fairly new I found it odd that the hiscores were deemed worthy of requiring needing confirmation that a human is posting, quite obviously anything going to jagex.com and the runescape.com should almost definitely be whitelisted, after all, the runescape site definitely helps the wikia overall. On top of which anything "Inappropriate" links to runescape would be located on forums and be most likely locked by a moderator. I will swiftly change point of this forum thread. Again thanks for the info. Korasi's sword.png Archmage Elune  TalkHS Void knight deflector.png fetus is my son and I love him. 15:55, December 26, 2009 (UTC)
  • Comment - Actually, auto-confirmed users do not see the captcha: Special:ListGroupRights (scroll to "Autoconfirmed users"), which is 10 edits+.
Weird...I've had over 30 edits and still get it...O_o Korasi's sword.png Archmage Elune  TalkHS Void knight deflector.png fetus is my son and I love him. 16:13, December 26, 2009 (UTC)
You account also has to be over 4 days old to be autoconfirmed. Yours is currently only 3 days old. Quest.png Gaz Lloyd 7:^]Events!99s 19:03, December 26, 2009 (UTC)
Hmph. I thought it was only 10 edits on Wikia... Ah well. Hello71 23:28, December 26, 2009 (UTC)

Comment - Never noticed that before. Just wait a day, as Gaz said. Ancient talisman.png Oil4 Talk 21:49, December 26, 2009 (UTC)

Found out how exactly to whitelist. Sysops can change MediaWiki:captcha-addurl-whitelist to include the relevant sites. Hello71 01:18, December 27, 2009 (UTC)
