I'm going to get straight to the point. There are inconsistencies with the names of the items in Solomon's General Store and their corresponding names in-game (in the wardrobe interface). Which do we use?

Some examples:

  • The majority fit this example - the store uses Title Case while the in-game interface uses the standard item naming convention (first letter caps, rest lower):
    • Store: Nefarious Reach (title case); Wardrobe: Nefarious reach (standard convention)
    • Store: Gothic Outfit; Wardrobe: Gothic outfit
    • Store: Elven Warrior Outfit; Wardrobe: Elven warrior outfit (in fact, almost every 'outfit' follows this)
  • A few have expanded names:
    • Store: Skyguard Outfit; Wardrobe: Aviansie Skyguard outfit
    • Store: Skyshadow Outfit; Wardrobe: Vyrewatch Skyshadow outfit
  • Same as the first, but this is an inventory item and not just an override stored in an interface
    • Store: Dwarven Challenge Barrel; Inventory: Dwarven challenge barrel
  • Some are completely different:
    • Store: Drakefire Warship; Pets interface: Zeppelin

The problem being that we sometimes use the store, sometimes use in-game and sometimes use something else? These should all be standardised to one system. Obviously, use redirects from one to the other and such.

Proposal: Use in-game sources for article names of SGS items (unless the item is never referenced in-game, like Bank Boosters). Add a line to/mention this on RS:STYLE (also applies if this goes the other way). Update relevant articles with the new names (probably using a bot/AWB?). Addendum: Update image names accordingly, add a point to RS:IMP#NAME. Links to items should use the in-game names too (such as on the Solomon's General Store subpages, navboxes and Deal of the Day). Quest.png Gaz Lloyd 7:^]Events!99s 15:19, January 5, 2015 (UTC)

Discussion

In-game - as proposer. Quest.png Gaz Lloyd 7:^]Events!99s 23:29, January 4, 2015 (UTC)

In-game - Seems reasonable and is similar to how most items are named. 5-x Talk 23:32, January 4, 2015 (UTC)

In-game - this is more what people would be used to. Royal crown.png Harmonising (Ithellian)Talk Steel kiteshield (Misthalin).png 23:33, January 4, 2015 (UTC)

Ingame - I support this, but moving all of them might be rather annoying (for the images). Bot it maybe? --Jlun2 (talk) 00:36, January 5, 2015 (UTC)

In game - and if it does end up being a bunch of minor moving I will be able to do that Riblet15 05:15, January 5, 2015 (UTC)

No joke... sssSp7p.pngIjLCqFF.png 01:59, January 5, 2015 (UTC)

Ing a Me - I've been pulling random ass stuff for names, usually the first name I see given for the item, mainly because there's no convention established. MolMan 00:51, January 5, 2015 (UTC)

In-game - Because of reasons (like common sense). Raglough (talk) 02:53, January 5, 2015 (UTC)

Comment - Is this proposal purely meant for article names, or also any part of the wiki where a SGS item/outfit is mentioned (the SGS pages themselves, the Deal of the day page, ...)? I'd prefer the latter for consistency, but it is not explicitly mentioned in the proposal. As a general wikia consensus I have no issue using either name, though, so long as it's consistent. IP83.101.44.209 (talk) 05:07, January 5, 2015 (UTC)

It would probably be easier, and more consistent with the rest of the wiki, to make such pages use the in-game names. I can see the benefit of using the store name on the store pages specifically, but I'm still leaning to in-game. The capitalisation inconsistencies could be a note on the main SGS page - no need for that to be on the item page - and the wider inconsistencies (like Skyguard or Zeppelin) can be noted on the page itself. Made this an addendum to the proposal. Quest.png Gaz Lloyd 7:^]Events!99s 15:19, January 5, 2015 (UTC)

In-game - This is what has been done for ever. I don't have any actual examples, but I do think there have been situations where the official Game Guide (back when it existed), the in-game Quest walkthrough, NPC conversation, or whatever else there is, have used different names for certain things. It has always been convention to name articles after the name used for the item itself. So, in the case of the SGS, it would make sense to use the name used in the most 'physical' situation, which would be the place you actually interact with it: the in-game wardrobe. This is also per Oil4's comment. JOEYTJE50TALKpull my finger 21:49, January 5, 2015 (UTC)

Store name - Just to have some variety in the opinions here. In reality, I support the in-game names to be the standard. User_talk:Fswe1 Fswe1 Brassica Prime symbol.png 18:29, January 6, 2015 (UTC)
