Forum:RuneScape Wiki tumblr
I noticed that we have a facebook page and a twitter I think but we don't have tumblr so I went ahead and created a tumblr account for the runescape wiki http://runescapewikia.tumblr.com/
Now we can connect to more people and get more editors.
I'd like to hear ideas on what we should do for the tumblr, constructive ideas are always nice
Enjoy --Turok Obama 00:24, April 18, 2011 (UTC)
Close it - I really don't think it's needed. And also why put that stuff on it.... It's not wiki-like01:31, April 18, 2011 (UTC)
- This is a legitimate subject so should stay open for 7 days. (Achievements are not wiki-like either but still a trial for it passed) JOEYTJE50TALK pull my finger 06:46, April 18, 2011 (UTC)
Oppose - What's on there is very unprofessional and we don't need it (btw, "runescapewikia.tumblr.com" "runescapewikia", way to encourage the misconception that we're the RuneScape Wikia).02:10, April 18, 2011 (UTC)
Explanation I feel I owe you guys one, the tumblr was at one point mine because I made it to see what was so great, I don't see what is so unprofessional about the stuff on the tumblr, all it is an a question a bot asked me, a funny thing with justin bieber and a line from dragon age. Also we are the runescape wikia and we should be proud. Finally I'm not closing it, we can use it or not but it stays unless someone gives me a good reason to close it--Turok Obama 04:11, April 18, 2011 (UTC)
- We have a Facebook and a Twitter. They are little used (I think) but this was made without a Yew Grove discussion which I say we needed before anyone even set up something like this "tumblr" account. I am still saying Close it but if it goes though a successful Yew Grove discussion I might change my mind. 04:20, April 18, 2011 (UTC)
Ho hum - Firstly, no, we are not the "runescape wikia". Yes, we are integrated into Wikia's blahblahblahblahblah, and the url does say runescape.wikia.com, but really, we are independet of Wikia. Also, some users may find that extremely offensive, considering craploads of us hate Wikia.
Secondly, I don't think Tumblr is such a bad idea. Great job being bold, but perhaps you went a bit too far. Anyway, the content on there right now is a bit weird, so remove that now please, but Tumblr might be useful.
"Useful for what?" you ask. Well, what do we use our Facebook and Twitter for?
Next, you say "But our Facebook and Twitter are rarely touched", well whose fault is that? Our Facebook and Twitter could be commonly used. "For what?" you ask. Well, whatever we use it for now, and generally more RuneScape stuff more frequently. I am actually considering asking Mark to let me post on them so I can help make that a reality.
"But why should we use Tumblr?" you ask next. Man, you ask a lot of questions...
Anyway, Tumblr is another highly used social platform. Not as highly used as Facebook or Twitter, but still, highly used.
- Actually, make that Extremely conditional strong support. Matt (t) 10:11, April 18, 2011 (UTC)
Tumblr? What would we do with this account? Reblog "deep" black-and-white photographs? That's about all anyone does on that site. Flavius47 18:00, April 18, 2011 (UTC)
Tumblr isn't just for weird photos, it can be used to post a range of content. What would we do with it?

- Sorry, but... are we gonna copypasta facebook to tumblr? So are we gonna have 2 completely blank pages? JOEYTJE50TALK pull my finger 22:56, April 18, 2011 (UTC)

Comment - You certainly haven't got the right to represent the community in any official capacity unless the community determines so, making "Finallly, I'm not closing it" a rather arrogant statement. In regards to reasons for closing it, I consider branching into social networking sites an unnecessary chore for such a robust and well-developed source of information as our wiki; we will not benefit in any marginally useful way from Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, or anything because everybody knows our site, by which I mean that the work put into it would be more usefully put into the wiki itself, and no traffic will find its way here from a social networking site because this site is so highly listed in the search engines. Quite contrarily, I expect that our "official" social networking sites us receive basically all of their traffic from here. It being useless, unbeneficial, and unrepresentative of our values as a community, I say close it. Leftiness 20:05, April 18, 2011 (UTC)
Oh. My. God. - Grammar Nazis, shut the hell up please. If I hear one more idiot griping about wiki vs wikia, which isn't a big bloody deal because it doesn't change or affect who we are as a fansite in any way, shape, or form (IT'S JUST AN EXTRA 'A' SO GET OVER IT, NOBODY'S GONNA DIE), there's going to be blood.
Sorry. Had to get that off my chest. Seeing how my fellow wikians seem to be occupying their time lately disgusts me. Seriously. If you don't like the language, ignore it, 'cause I'm not changing it.
As for this Tumblr account, I personally prefer it when we wait until there's an actual community consensus before going ahead and creating an account, especially because there seems to be a good amount of opposition here..... Andrew talk 03:28, April 19, 2011 (UTC)
- In this case it does sort of matter when it is the name of something that is representing us. When someone just says "RuneScape Wikia" I don't care, but this is different. ʞooɔ 04:47, April 19, 2011 (UTC)
Oppose - I have seen some explanations of what we would do, and in my opinion it is useless to have this added if we don't even do anything with our facebook/twitter accounts. I think we should first get those back alive and after that start thinking about adding a new similar thing. JOEYTJE50TALK pull my finger 10:16, April 19, 2011 (UTC)
I am still waiting for helpful feedback on what we could post on it, maybe when new quests are released, we could post on tumblr and ask for help with creating the article, and when hints come, we post the pictures, also with articles that are stubs we could see about getting people to help by posting stubs
See there are useful ways to use tumblr--Turok Obama 02:33, April 24, 2011 (UTC)
- You haven't addressed the marginal futility of using social networks. We might benefit slightly if a handful of Runescape players who don't use our wiki but happen to use Tumblr find their way here, but I assert that it's much more beneficial to edit stubs without making a post to Tumblr because the few minutes spent making a post will be utterly wasted. Comment - We don't need to include ourselves on every social networking site in existence.18:13, April 24, 2011 (UTC)
