Forum:RuneScape:User block policy
Since Powers38 insisted to have a consensus about my change I'll open a topic... [See here].
Jagex doesn't have 15 game rules anymore, and it's better to direct people to the official site, incase we get accused of any wrong information on the wiki article. And there was a message left on my talk page that names with Mod ... should be blocked. I checked and you cant make a user account on RuneScape with such a name.. And few minutes later Azaz129 blocked him. So .. was my change to the User Block policy a good one or not. 10:37, 12 June 2009 (UTC)
Support - The edit seemed to be more of a clarification anyway.--

Support - As the current policy is now outdated due to the Jagex changes. Also, with respect to the Mod username ban, a search at the Special:PrefixIndex page yielded a user with no apparent block. Lastly, I think we should clarify that the username start with the word Mod, just because a username starting with Mode, Modest, etc. are technically blocked by the proposed new wording of RS:BLOCK but are clearly not intended to be moderator impersonation. --Quarenon T / C 11:17, 12 June 2009 (UTC)
Comment - Maybe we should also expand it a bit more to not allow anything people impersonating andrew/paul or some other jagex employee names instead of just starting with mod. Powers38 おはようヾ(´･ω･｀) 11:24, 12 June 2009 (UTC)
Support - Per Elf, and Power's point above - make sure thet they are definately impersonating Andrew/Paul/Ian Gower or any other Jagex employee, and are not just using their real name as their username (as they're fairly common names...).14:56, 12 June 2009 (UTC)
Time for some hypothetical scenarios! First off, let's say that a real Jagex staff member made an account here to get to know our community, but they didn't use an alias or anything. Now, we don't know that they're the real thing, but after blocking, they continue to insist that they are. Would we keep them blocked until they did something to prove it in-game? And would we apologize?
Second, let's say that there's someone who's had a Wikia for a long time that had a name that could be considered as staff impersonation by us (such as "Mod Gimbee"). Now, this person isn't just any standard editor. They edit a lot of different wikis, and have well over 20,000 total edits, and they insist that their name has a totally different meaning from the community that they're from. Would we still block them and make them have a separate account [or alternatively edit as an unregistered user] if they want to edit here, or would we make an exception because the username has a different meaning than what we initially thought?
- Comment - For the first scenario, is there not already a Jagex policy that mods have some sort of private alias anyway? Is there something in place by Jagex with respect to whether they are allowed to use their official usernames (i.e. Mod X) on other non-Jagex sites, be it RuneScape fansites or otherwise? It seems like they would have considered that possibility and would have disallowed it just for various implications such as this. The apparent lack of this problem in the past seems to support this but I'm sure one of you out there can clarify. --Quarenon T / C 22:59, 12 June 2009 (UTC)
