My proposal is to add some rules for the Chat feature, so users understand how they are expected to behave in it. Here are a basic set of rules I came up with:

-Start-

  1. Users must follow the RuneScape:User treatment policy, the RuneScape:Don't feed the trolls, the RuneScape:Assume good faith, the RuneScape:Block policy and the RuneScape:Gaming the system policies.
  2. Users must not talk about and do anything illegal in nature, and must follow all of [http://www.runescape.com/kbase/guid/rules_of_conduct RuneScape's rules].
  3. Users must not intentionally join and leave the chat in order to cause disruption.
  4. No spamming and advertising.

Administrators or chat moderators may ban a user who is not following the rules from chat. -Finish- Discuss, Smithing (talk | contribs) 19:28, July 23, 2011 (UTC)

RuneScape:Use common sense should be added to the first point as well. Smithing (talk | contribs) 13:54, July 24, 2011 (UTC)

I think he means the Chat feature that was recently added to the Wiki itself, Karlis, not the Clan or Friends' Chats in-game. [1] N7 Elite (Ready to talk now?) 19:32, July 23, 2011 (UTC)
Yes, I mean [[Special:Chat]]. Smithing (talk | contribs) 19:33, July 23, 2011 (UTC)
Why would the IRC or CC rules not apply to it then? Karlis (talk) (contribs) 19:33, July 23, 2011 (UTC)
I don't believe we say that the same rules apply anywhere. We don't have a page explaining what Special:Chat is or what rules to follow. sssSp7p.pngIjLCqFF.png 19:35, July 23, 2011 (UTC)
These rules would probably have to be added as part of an information page, if the proposal passes. The reason is the chat is different than the IRC or the CC, and I believe it would be better if we had our own set of rules for it. Smithing (talk | contribs) 19:39, July 23, 2011 (UTC)

Strong Support - Since I agree with you that the Chat feature needs some rules in place to prevent the kinds of bad behavior that you've mentioned in your proposal. [2] N7 Elite (Ready to talk now?) 19:36, July 23, 2011 (UTC)

Support - No longer will we have to point at our guts whenever someone asks for a rule page. svco4bY.png3Gf5N2F.png 19:39, July 23, 2011 (UTC)

STRONG support - Please, for the love of everything sacred. Create a new page to explain what Special:Chat is (like we have for the cc and irc chat), and outline the proposed rules on it. sssSp7p.pngIjLCqFF.png 19:41, July 23, 2011 (UTC)

Strong support - duh Matt (t) 03:07, July 24, 2011 (UTC)

Fully prohibiting all discussion of anything illegal is rather broad. People in other chats mention getting busted (or getting away with) various minor offenses from time to time and it does not rip apart the fabric of the universe. How about we apply common sense here instead? And this does need to be addressed because many people here lack common sense and would consider this to be a solid prohibition with no exceptions.--Degenret01 03:28, July 24, 2011 (UTC)

I would think it'd be kinda like what the IRC rules are now: breaking the rules is not really bad, as long as it is not causing chaos or disruption. I don't think this would really be a big problem, but I agree, in the list of policies UCS should definetely also be listed, because that applies everywhere. In the game itself, you cannot talk about illegal things (a reportable offense), so I fail to see why we should talk about them here. What would be one legitimate reason to ever have to talk about such things, anyway?! Hofmic Talk 22:49, August 4, 2011 (UTC)

Support - But for those kicked/banned for joining and leaving, give them a chance to explain themselves via their talk page. There seems to be some sort of bug that forces people to repeatedly join/leave in quick succession What I've done Ciphrius Kane Talk 22:23, July 28, 2011 (UTC)

Support - A very, very reasonable proposal. --クールネシトーク 14:25, July 29, 2011 (UTC)

Support - Well of course. Dragon 2h sword old.pngCallofduty4 Talk 03:15, August 5, 2011 (UTC)

Closed - The rules will be added for the chat. As the Wikia chat is an on-site feature, I cannot place it with the offsite pages (exempli gratia IRC, clan chat, et cetera). However, I think this deserves the name "Chat" more than the IRC does, so I will be stealing RuneScape:Chat for this. --LiquidTalk 14:25, August 11, 2011 (UTC)
