"Advertising" your RfA: Some editors do not like to see an RfA "advertised" by the nominee on other people's talk pages, in signatures, ingame, or on IRC. RfA is not a political campaign. The intent is to develop consensus. Impartial evaluation of a candidate, not how popular they are, is the goal. Canvassing is often looked down upon.
Recently, RS:RFR have become more of an advertising campaign than what they're meant to be - discussion to see if the user really deserves their rank. Endless talk on CC (especially by the candidate/nominator) are pretty annoying, so I think this rule should be the same for RfR's - If its brought up by a non candidate/nominator, discussion should be encouraged but if the nominator is whining about the discussion "omg, everyone is voting no" "my rfr has no replies", they should be told to stop. This isn't an election, theres no need for advertising -.- Karis Talk to me 21:21, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
Support - I had this problem in the cc the other day. Scimitar was advertising his rfr. The reason for my support is, well, you said them for me Nacho =).
- Comment My point entirely, thats why I made this. Although its currently not a rule, its more of a moral if you understand my meaning. Karis Talk to me 21:30, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
Support - I agree fully on this, they should not get said rank if they keep bringing it up, it just makes me want to make/change my vote an opposing one.21:26, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
Support - Advertising of RfAs is discouraged, why are RfRs so different? (In my opinion,) ranked non-admin users to the wiki are much like forum admins - they hold no extra tools actually on the wiki itself, but provide a vital function for the wiki in a another place (be that the wiki forums or actually in the game the wiki is about); hence RfRs shouldn't be advertised anywhere, ingame or on the wiki. As you say, if brought up by an unrelated user to the RfR (i.e. not the nominee/nominator) then discussion can continue, unless one of said users starts complaining/gloating/whatever then they should be warned and the conversation topic changed (decision made at the discretion of the ranked users currently online).22:09, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
