Nightgunner5: Is there a type of RfA for the IRC and clan chat?
Christine: no
Christine: they need to establish one

(Copied directly from the IRC chat)

What do you think?

Oppose - There isn't much activity in IRC and in the clan chat and the only real power that you are given is the ability to kick. I would understand if you were requesting forum admin or sysop tools, but do we really need a "RuneScape:Requests for IRC op" or "RuneScape:Requests for clan chat ranks" just so people can kick? Andrew talk 23:34, 16 March 2009 (UTC)

Oppose - No. *to answer Soldier's question*   az talk   03:45, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

That was actually a rhetorical question, but okay. :P Andrew talk 15:25, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

Oppose - No reason to go through such a fiasco for so little. Cap and goggles.pngTEbuddy 03:49, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

Oppose - IRC almost never has any problems and the people already ranked in the chat do a good enough job monitoring already. Besides, we are limited on how many people can be ranked in the chat. - TehKittyCatTalk Wikian-Book 22:45, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

Oppose - Following the crowd. I don't think we need this.

Support - I think we do. How else would we decide to rank people? Especially on the Clan Chat, where people only ask to be Sergeants and are usually given the rank without much voting. White partyhat old.png C Teng talk 19:51, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

Comment - What does everyone need to be ranked for? We have enough people ranked in the CC as it is. Should a situation arise with a troll and no ranked users are on, people can make use of their Ignore list. Karlis (talk) (contribs) 19:56, 18 March 2009 (UTC)
Like adminship, some Sergeants may become inactive. There should be an easier way to get rid of spammers other than having everyone add them to his/her Ignore List. White partyhat old.png C Teng talk 19:58, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

Comment - Personally I am neutral on this issue, despite what I said in IRC, and for this reason: If there is no established way to give people access in IRC, then that means all power allotment is at my discretion. So for those opposing, just take that into account. Christine 20:01, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

Er, just in case people can't take a joke. Ask any user who has been on either the new IRC or old IRC. While I was always in control of access powers, I only gave access to sysops, ever. Anyone will tell you that I am fair. However, if you would like users who are not sysops to have access, there needs to be a process for establishing them. Christine 20:04, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

Oppose - No need for this unneeded extra beurocracy. This would simply waste time. Besides, we can deside who is a trusted user or not without all this. A user is either trusted or not. RfA-type things exist to scrutinise every little thing the user did, in order to establish whether s/he is deserving of more administrative powers. Being a trusted user just doesn't fall into that category. Now that's a throwing weapon!Doucher4000******r4000I'll eat you! 14:21, 22 March 2009 (UTC)

Well who will decide who is trusted? Who will add them to the access lists, either on IRC or on the CC? Can I just add all my personal friends, and decline to add anyone I don't like, even if they may be trusted? No, this simply won't work when in both cases, only a single person has control over who gets what powers. Christine 21:29, 23 March 2009 (UTC)

Slight Oppose - I would want a sort of a "Request for IRC op/clan chat rank", but like some people said, we already have enough people patrolling these areas that we wouldn't really need the extra ops, these areas are somewhat inactive as far as a lot of members active in the IRC or chat, and that we usually don't have any major problems in these chats that we need more people with kicking/blocking tools to provide help since there is almost always someone there if anyone should need any help with a situation that could occur. Neutral - IRC seems to be faring quite well with just granting sysops the tools... but the CC is a different beast; anyone remember my story where we went 6 hours without a rank, after the first wave of Trusted Users were ranked?

Although I am currently ranked as a Trusted User, I would gladly stick my neck out to see if the community believes that I am deserving of the status. To be entirely honest, I believe that, at the very least, those who want TU status in the clan chat should have some form of on Wiki discussion (and those who are already ranked as a TU should be given a proper community discussion), even if it's not a full-blown RFA style process. --Beware the underrated. Support CC, Oppose IRC - IRC rarely has any problems whatsoever. During the morning hours (for me at least) there are enough people on at the time to ban an offender. During the afternoon (for me) everyone is usually AFK, so the offender won't get any satisfaction, will get bored, and leave. As for the CC, I think RfKP (Requests for Kicking Powers) is a pretty good idea. ~ Fire Surge icon.png Sentry Telos Talk  22:04, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

Weak support - From what I see there is rarely a time on the cc without kickers on, unless this changes this shouldn't be a high priority for us. Zaros tally.PNGBladeQuick chat button.png# 02:11, 28 March 2009 (UTC)

Support RfC - I think that if we are going to have users that are not admins kicking powers on the CC, it should be handled just like an RfA. We are giving users additional tools/privledges. It should be done by the community. I can't speak for IRC. Air rune.png Tollerach hates SoF Fire rune.png 06:37, 29 March 2009 (UTC)
